Book Adam Smith s Invisible Hand as Self control Mechanism of Social Structures

Download or read book Adam Smith s Invisible Hand as Self control Mechanism of Social Structures written by Tadeusz Szuba and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-07 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows how such a computational process functions, how great is its power and versatility, since it is possible to show how discoveries are made. In 1759, A. Smith realized that there must exist an additional powerful control mechanism behind Great Britain’s authority and government, explaining the extraordinary successes of Great Britain. He called this the Invisible Hand. Despite having used this term only 3 times, the idea evokes extreme scientific and political emotions to this day. If we apply a molecular model of computation, such as in in Adleman’s DNA computer, a computational model for the Invisible Hand can be built to show how it affects a society. It is a spontaneous, unconscious, distributed, noncontinuous computational process on the platform of minds of, e.g., people or ants. Knowing this mechanism, a future self-steering and self-optimization system for AI robot teams can be proposed, e.g., for construction sites and rescue operations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *Provides a clear, yet panoramic analysis of how the concept of social control has been used by different theoretical traditions in the social sciences. *Connects contemporary changes in areas such as policing, penal systems and surveillance, with wider and deeper changes in the constitution of society. *Employs empirical examples to illustrate key conceptual points. *Develops an innovative argument about the nature and scope of social control in late-modern societies. Understanding Social Control investigates how the concept of social control has been used to capture the ways in which individuals, communities and societies respond to a variety of forms of deviant behaviour. In so doing, the book demonstrates how an appreciation of the meanings of the concept of social control is vital to understanding the dynamics and trajectories of social order in contemporary late-modern societies. Through an analysis of a range of different modes of social control including: policing, imprisonment, surveillance, risk management, audit and architecture, this book explores how and why the mechanisms and processes of social control are changing. The book will be of interest to those studying courses in criminology and the social sciences, researchers with interests in the sociology of deviance and social control, and readers who want to understand the social forces that are shaping the world they live in.

Book excerpt: Since the beginning of human civilization, music has been used as a device to control social behavior, where it has operated as much to promote solidarity within groups as hostility between competing groups. Music is an emotive manipulator that influences attitude, motivation and behavior at many levels and in many contexts. This volume is the first to address the social ramifications of music’s behaviorally manipulative effects, its morally questionable uses and control mechanisms, and its economic and artistic regulation through commercialization, thus highlighting not only music’s diverse uses at the social level but also the ever-fragile relationship between aesthetics and morality.

Book Organizational Control Mechanisms

Download or read book Organizational Control Mechanisms written by Rajendra Prasad Singh and published by Northern Book Centre. This book was released on 1988 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People seem to be ``either-or thinkers''; either this must be true or that must be true. As opposed to this there are people who believe that nothing is absolutely true and it is the time and the place which will determine the choice of an idea or a strategy. The approach of this book is opposed to both these extremes and alternatively takes a position which may be termed dialectical. It posits the possibility that both ``X and not X'' may be true at the same time and place. It conceives of social reality in the critical-conflict perspective and presents a model of behaviour control-mechanisms that may be effective in an organizational context. Besides being useful to the managers and union leaders of various government and non-government manufacturing and service organizations it has attempted to steer out a theoretical approach that may be adopted in understanding, predicting and controlling the behaviour of personnel of any hierarchy in a organization.
