Book excerpt: Gena's personality is unfolding more everyday, to be herself: When the publishers asked me for another book, I thought no/way, but destiny is drawing me. I called them back, I have twenty seven chapters: Song, I'll be gone to be with Jesus before the Roses bloom come spring, in a garden of my own, I know we'll meet tomorrow, we'll be waiting there for you. I heard this on T.B.N. Song, My theme song, I made this up, *my Savior Lord to thee," Thou art my Glories; Thou art my Lord--He touched me, and He made--me whole, and oh--the *joy that fills my soul: I sing my song, when I leave the driveway, as I look at our land, that God! Blessed us with, on the left, and the creek on the right. Songs, I come to the garden alone, while the due is still on the *Roses, and the voice I hear, falling on my ear, the Son of God! Discloses. He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own, and the joy we share, as we terry there, none other has ever known: Song, His eye is on the sparrow, and He watches over me:

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before the rise of private homes as we now understand them, the realm of personal, private, and local relations in England was the parish, which was also the sphere of poverty management. Between the 1740s and the 1790s, legislators, political economists, reformers, and novelists transferred the parish system’s functions to another institution that promised self-sufficient prosperity: the laborer’s cottage. Expanding its scope beyond the parameters of literary history and previous studies of domesticity, Be It Ever So Humble posits that the modern middle-class home was conceived during the eighteenth century in England, and that its first inhabitants were the poor. Over the course of the eighteenth century, many participants in discussions about poverty management came to believe that private family dwellings could turn England's indigent, unemployed, and discontent into a self-sufficient, productive, and patriotic labor force. Writers and thinkers involved in these debates produced copious descriptions of what a private home was and how it related to the collective national home. In this body of texts, Scott MacKenzie pursues the origins of the modern middle-class home through an extensive set of discourses—including philosophy, law, religion, economics, and aesthetics—all of which brush up against and often spill over into literary representations. Through close readings, the author substantiates his claim that the private home was first invented for the poor and that only later did the middle class appropriate it to themselves. Thus, the late eighteenth century proves to be a watershed moment in home's conceptual life, one that produced a remarkably rich and complex set of cultural ideas and images. Book So That You May Be One

Download or read book So That You May Be One written by Joa Bolendas and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 1997-10-15 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the spring of 1957, Joa Bolendas, a mother and pastor's wife living in Switzerland, began to experience a series of visions and conversations with spiritual beings. Now available for the first time in English, this astonishing book records these conversations, which took place from 1957 to 1990, in simple, descriptive language, unembellished by interpretation. Excerpts from her journal describe the personal struggle of handling the profound information that came to her. The messages that emerge from the visions about important theological themes, such as the Grail, the rosary, icons, and the Old and New Testaments, ultimately urge us toward a new unity -- of the churches, of the forces within each individual, and of the peoples of the world.

Book So Good They Can t Ignore You

Download or read book So Good They Can t Ignore You written by Cal Newport and published by Grand Central Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09-18 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an unorthodox approach, Georgetown University professor Cal Newport debunks the long-held belief that "follow your passion" is good advice, and sets out on a quest to discover the reality of how people end up loving their careers. Not only are pre-existing passions rare and have little to do with how most people end up loving their work, but a focus on passion over skill can be dangerous, leading to anxiety and chronic job hopping. Spending time with organic farmers, venture capitalists, screenwriters, freelance computer programmers, and others who admitted to deriving great satisfaction from their work, Newport uncovers the strategies they used and the pitfalls they avoided in developing their compelling careers. Cal reveals that matching your job to a pre-existing passion does not matter. Passion comes after you put in the hard work to become excellent at something valuable, not before. In other words, what you do for a living is much less important than how you do it. With a title taken from the comedian Steve Martin, who once said his advice for aspiring entertainers was to "be so good they can't ignore you," Cal Newport's clearly written manifesto is mandatory reading for anyone fretting about what to do with their life, or frustrated by their current job situation and eager to find a fresh new way to take control of their livelihood. He provides an evidence-based blueprint for creating work you love, and will change the way you think about careers, happiness, and the crafting of a remarkable life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All the citizens of heaven were excited about the upcoming ceremony. One of their own members, Lucifer, was going to be anointed as chief over them all. Why wouldn’t he be chosen? All others agreed. After all, as a messenger stated, Lucifer was the most glorious being in all of creation—except, of course, for God. But when God began to speak, everything changed. In a creative study that reinterprets the great battle between God and Lucifer and imagines the actions of factions supporting each and the resulting fallout in the heavenly kingdom, Chris Pagano offers his unique perspective while attempting to answer common questions about the devil. Who created him? Why is there a constant struggle in our lives between good and evil? And is God actively involved in the world’s affairs and in our lives? Throughout his examination, Pagano helps us understand how to live with these issues, to find peace within a deeper relationship with God, and to ponder the lasting consequences of these storied events. So Shall It Forever Be shares one man’s perspective on the beginning when good and evil first met while encouraging believers to return to the Bible to search for the hidden truths.

Book excerpt: The New York Times best-selling book exploring the counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged, and how these reactions maintain racial inequality. In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to ‘bad people’ (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves that white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt, and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent any meaningful cross-racial dialogue. In this in-depth exploration, DiAngelo examines how white fragility develops, how it protects racial inequality, and what we can do to engage more constructively.
