Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987, this thesaurus is concerned with the spoken languages of Africa. Languages are grouped into a relatively large number of sets and subsets within which the relationship of languages to one another is locally apparent and uncontroversial. The volume presents the languages in classified order with notes on each language, their variant names and immediate classification, and reference to the sources consulted. One section offers an exhaustive list of the languages spoken as home languages by local communities in each state, together with details of languages widely used for inter-group communication, given official recognition, or used in education or the media. There are brief phonological analyses of a broad sample of some 20 African languages and a comprehensive bibliography and language index to the whole work

Download or read book Tombel Sub Division and Council written by S. N. Ejedepang-Koge and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-02-27 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The foundation of Tombel Town has influenced the rapid evolution of Bakossiland in terms of the growth, distribution and diversity of the population and, the diversity of economic activities. Though peripheral in location, Tombel Town and its environs (Tombel Sub-Division) have become the centre of attraction, the pull-centre of internal and external migration and, the economic pull centre within Kupe Mwanenguba. This migratory trend continues unabated, except for close to ten years after the violent explosion or Crisis of 31st December 1966. The rapid growth in the diversity of population has promoted the cosmopolitan nature of the Town and the Tombel Sub-Division and given rise to the creation many small economic self-employing activities as well as diverse needs that have to be satisfied. This has enabled Tombel to become the economic engine of Bakossiland, and indeed, of the whole Kupe-Mwanenguba Division. Agriculture is the heart of the economic life Tombel Sub-Division and Kupe-Mwanenguba. Both cash and food crops do very well, But. The lack of good roads, difficulty to acquire inputs such as relevant chemicals for protecting growing plants and developing fruits from disease, and the lack of adapted tools, impede increased productivity and the preservability of harvested agricultural crops. Secondly, the lack of easy and affordable means of transport impedes both production and, the transport of agricultural products from farm to market. Transportation is prohibitive because the roads are in very bad condition through most of the year in this very rainy area. Delicate crops are difficult to preserve and undergo fast degradation and much loss while waiting to be transported and, during transportation from farms to the markets. As a result, peasants do not receive the full value and price of their produce. Lack of roads and transportation breed poverty.

Download or read book Sino African Cooperation for Schistosomiasis Control in Zanzibar written by Kun Yang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering an example for transnational cooperation and successful reduction of a neglected tropical disease, this volume shows how Chinese scientists and local physicians controlled schistosomiasis in Zanzibar. Over a four-year study, local medical specialists and the population of Zanzibar were taught how to diagnose the parasitosis caused by flukes (trematode worms) of the genus Schistosoma. Furthermore, methods to eliminate the disease and prevent new infections were established. The developed control system will avoid repeated increase of human schistosomiasis, which is still prevalent in the tropics and subtropics. Rural populations and poor communities lacking access to clean drinking water and adequate sanitation are most affected. This book is a blueprint of activities urgently needed to combat schistosomiasis in countries with low medical impact. The strategies outlined are particularly relevant to parasitologists and professionals in public health, physicians, medical personnel and also governmental, healthcare and pharmaceutical institutions.
