Book Small Cross flows in Three dimensional Laminar Boundary Layers with Suction Or Injection

Download or read book Small Cross flows in Three dimensional Laminar Boundary Layers with Suction Or Injection written by Y. Y. Chan and published by 1969.. This book was released on 1969 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three-dimensional laminar boundary layers with suction or injection are examined by using an approximate method based on a small cross-flow assumption. The basic equations are derived in detail and the computational method is developed. The method is tested against exact solutions and is found to be reasonably accurate. Two examples with the same external condition, but with different surface conditions, are analyzed. In one case the distribution of the normal velocity at the surface satisfies the similarity requirement and in the other case the normal velocity is constant over the complete surface. Although the results of these two cases are different in detail, the general trend of both shows that the three-dimensional behaviour of the boundary layer diminishes with suction and amplifies with injection. Book Similar Solutions of the Three Dimensional Boundary Layer with Constant Cross Flow

Download or read book Similar Solutions of the Three Dimensional Boundary Layer with Constant Cross Flow written by James W. Christian and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governing equations are formulated for laminar compressible similar boundary layers with heat transfer, adverse pressure gradient, and constant cross flow. These equations are expressed in finite difference form and solved numerically. Solutions are found for attached and separated flows in adverse pressure gradients for nine combinations of cross flow and heat transfer. The purpose of these solutions is to provide understanding of how cross flow alters the two-dimensional similar results. Solutions are presented in the form of temperature profiles, main flow and cross flow velocity profiles, and global quantities; wall velocity and temperature gradients, displacement thickness, momentum thicknesses, and form factor.

Book Cross Flows in Laminar Incompressible Boundary Layers

Download or read book Cross Flows in Laminar Incompressible Boundary Layers written by Arthur G. Hansen and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis is derived for the three-dimensional boundary-layer flow over a flat surface with a leading edge under main-flow streamlines which are translates and representable by polynomial expressions. The boundary layers are laminar snd incompressible, and the profiles of their velocity components have similarity with respect to rectangular coordinates. Solutions are obtained for main-flow streamlines representable by polynomials up to the 11th order. Flow-visualization experimental checks for the theory are provided for several flow configurations and for comparisons of the behavior of thick and thin boundary layers.

Book Three Dimensional Attached Viscous Flow

Download or read book Three Dimensional Attached Viscous Flow written by Ernst Heinrich Hirschel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-29 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viscous flow is treated usually in the frame of boundary-layer theory and as two-dimensional flow. Books on boundary layers give at most the describing equations for three-dimensional boundary layers, and solutions often only for some special cases. This book provides basic principles and theoretical foundations regarding three-dimensional attached viscous flow. Emphasis is put on general three-dimensional attached viscous flows and not on three-dimensional boundary layers. This wider scope is necessary in view of the theoretical and practical problems to be mastered in practice. The topics are weak, strong, and global interaction, the locality principle, properties of three-dimensional viscous flow, thermal surface effects, characteristic properties, wall compatibility conditions, connections between inviscid and viscous flow, flow topology, quasi-one- and two-dimensional flows, laminar-turbulent transition and turbulence. Though the primary flight speed range is that of civil air transport vehicles, flows past other flying vehicles up to hypersonic speeds are also considered. Emphasis is put on general three-dimensional attached viscous flows and not on three-dimensional boundary layers, as this wider scope is necessary in view of the theoretical and practical problems that have to be overcome in practice. The specific topics covered include weak, strong, and global interaction; the locality principle; properties of three-dimensional viscous flows; thermal surface effects; characteristic properties; wall compatibility conditions; connections between inviscid and viscous flows; flow topology; quasi-one- and two-dimensional flows; laminar-turbulent transition; and turbulence. Detailed discussions of examples illustrate these topics and the relevant phenomena encountered in three-dimensional viscous flows. The full governing equations, reference-temperature relations for qualitative considerations and estimations of flow properties, and coordinates for fuselages and wings are also provided. Sample problems with solutions allow readers to test their understanding.

Book IUTAM Laminar Turbulent Transition

Download or read book IUTAM Laminar Turbulent Transition written by Spencer Sherwin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-30 with total page 809 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume comprises the carefully revised papers of the 9th IUTAM Symposium on Laminar-Turbulent Transition, held at the Imperial College, London, UK, in September 2019. The papers focus on the leading research in understanding transition to turbulence, which is a challenging topic of fluid mechanics and arises in many modern technologies as well as in nature. The proceedings are of interest for researchers in fluid mechanics and industry who have to handle these types of problems, such as in the aeronautical sector.
