Yet often the most productive choice we can make is the choice to slow down-before our hectic lifestyle catches up and forces us to focus on our own self-care as outlined in personal testimonies in the book. In Slow Down by Choice or Lay Down by Force: 7 Keys to Restore Wholistic Balance in Your Life, Trina Pitts-Khalfani outlines the seven steps that lead to a more balanced, healthy life. While contemporary science only begins to recognize that the health of the mind can shape the health of the body, we can and should embrace this truth whole-heartedly. Speaking from over twenty years of experience in health promotion and disease prevention, Khalfani shows us how we can return to the tried-and-true natural health practices that different cultures have been using for thousands of years in order to heal the Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past three decades, the United States government has used special operations repeatedly in an effort to achieve key foreign policy objectives, such as in the overthrow of Fidel Castro in Cuba and the rescuing of American hostages in Iran. Many of these secret missions carried out by highly trained commando forces have failed. In Perilous Options, Lucien Vandenbroucke examines the use and misuse of such special operations through an in-depth analysis of four operations--the Bay of Pigs invasion, the Sontay raid to rescue POWs in North Vietnam, the Mayaguez operation, and the Iran hostage rescue mission. Drawing extensively on declassified government documents, interviews with key decision makers and participants in these episodes, and other primary material, Perilous Options identifies recurrent problems in the way the United States government has prepared and executed such operations. These recurrent problems, outlined by key participants in these four special operations, include faulty intelligence, poor interagency and interservice cooperation and coordination, inadequate information and advice provided to decisionmakers, wishful thinking on the part of decisionmakers, and overcontrol of mission execution from outside the theater of operations. Vandenbroucke also explores the extent to which recent efforts to revitalize the U.S. operations capability have addressed these problems, identifying additional changes that can improve the government's ability to plan, evaluate, and execute such operations.

Download or read book The Devil s Handmaid written by Kirk F. Panneton and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-08 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author Kirk F. Panneton battled acute depression for more than a decade prior to his nearly successful suicide attempt on January 27, 2013. Although that moment marked the peak of numerous physical and psychological struggles, it also serves as the starting point for his journey through the fourth dimension during his recovery. Panneton spent four weeks in a rural ICU in Arkansas in an epic battle for his own survival. During this time, he experienced a passage through hell as a soldier of light, as his loved ones looked on from the sidelines. He chose of life and love time and again in order to emerge victorious from the endless and unforgiving tests set forth for him by the forces of evil. In this memoir, he recounts his story of redemption, both his physical experiences after waking and those that occurred while he was in a comatose state. He shares not only his recollections but also personal writings from himself and from family members during that period describing the events as they lived them. Most of all, he presents a unique, firsthand narrative of his encounter with death in hopes of giving people everywhere a reason to keep going.

Book excerpt: A space opera series that spans four self-contained stories that add up to a larger tale. In Watcher's Web, Jessica comes to the city of Barresh on the world of Ceren through what looks like an accident, but is a kidnapping attempt gone wrong. Jessica (or Anmi) is Aghyrian, an ancient highly intelligent race that gave rise to all human races on all inhabited worlds. Someone is trying to resurrect the almost extinct race, but a mad tyrant from the neighbouring nation of Miran wants Aghyrians for his twisted, evil plans. The botched kidnapping almost brings down the successful business of the Andrahar Trading family of Miran. In book 2, Mikandra has just been accepted as apprentice with them when she sees her life's dream evaporate from under her. Going to Barresh to locate a chunk of the family's missing money sounds simple enough, but she uncovers layers of betrayal by people she trusted. In book 3 jaded soldier Izramith accepts a contract providing security for a an event in Barresh. Privately, she is looking for her uncle who disappeared and is said to be in Miran. He was not the only one; people with a high percentage of Aghyrian blood have been disappearing for years. Attempting to free them from the heart of Miran makes her undertake the most hare-brained operation of all her military career. In book 4 the task of facing the tyrant of Miran is left to the least likely person of all: Ellisandra, a gentile young lady whose normal job it is to run the Mirani state theatre. She has no guns. Her weapons are words and a single public performance of a classic play. Will appeal to readers of C.J. Cherryh, Tamora Pierce and Isobelle Carmody.
