Book Slow Dance in a Winter Garden

Download or read book Slow Dance in a Winter Garden written by R. Thomas Sheardy and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following Nathaniel Hawthorne’s footsteps in Rome, a disillusioned middle-aged writer seeks meaning in things of little value while mistaking the needs of the soul as trivial, and of the heart as unreliable. Inspired in part by Hawthorne’s The Marble Faun, this tale is also a bit of a travelogue, as significant events often take place in sites of historical mystery. Though somewhat dark and serious, Slow Dance in a Winter Garden is a story of contemporary people who find themselves – like Nathaniel – torn between the persons they had hoped to be and those they have actually become.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion meets Night of the Living Dead in this laugh-out-loud debut YA novel by Emmy Award-nominated TV writer E. Van Lowe Principal Taft's 3 Simple Rules for Surviving a Zombie Uprising: Rule #1: While in the halls, walk slowly and wear a vacant expression on your face. Zombies won't attack other zombies. Rule #2: Never travel alone. Move in packs. Follow the crowd. Zombies detest blatant displays of individuality. Rule #3: If a zombie should attack, do not run. Instead, throw raw steak at to him. Zombies love raw meat. This display of kindness will go a long way. She and her best friend, Sybil, would be popular and, most important, have boyfriends. Three years later, they haven't accomplished a thing! Then Margot and Sybil arrive at school one day to find that most of the student body has been turned into flesh-eating zombies. When kooky Principal Taft asks the girls to coexist with the zombies until the end of the semester, they realize that this is the perfect opportunity to live out their high school dreams. All they have to do is stay alive.... “An unabashedly silly send-up of paranormal romance novels.” - Strange Horizons At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Book Loyalist to a Fault

Download or read book Loyalist to a Fault written by Evan Munday and published by ECW Press. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: October Schwartz and her five deadest pals are back for another crime-solving caper When October Schwartz raises her five dead friends to investigate the cause of Cyril Cooper's death way back in 1783, she expects a dull research-based journey into the lives of Canada's earliest British settlers, the United Empire Loyalists. You'd think our favourite teen detective would have the hang of this solving-mysteries thing by now, but when a ghost pirate appears on the scene, October may be in over her head. The ghost pirate — or someone in a very convincing costume — is thieving key evidence at every turn, beating October to the goods time and again. Worst of all, Valentine's Day is looming, and October's friends seem more concerned about secret admirers than secret conspiracies. As October digs deeper into the mystery, she starts to suspect the pirate may be someone very close to her, just as she uncovers facts regarding her long-missing mom and the meaning behind a cryptic message from a past case. The Dead Kid Detective Agency's third quest is a veritable bouquet of misadventures that weaves the American Revolution, a beyond-chaotic school dance, a historic sea vessel, and a boatload of supernatural shenanigans into one unforgettable madcap adventure.

Book The Myth of Solid Ground

Download or read book The Myth of Solid Ground written by David L. Ulin and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2005-07-26 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earthquakes are one of the great unsolved geological mysteries. Attempts to predict them have ranged from studies of California’s fault lines by USGS geologists to the work of an odd assortment of psychics and apocalyptics who base their sometimes startlingly accurate forecasts on everything from changes in the earth’s magnetic fields to the behavior of whales. The Myth of Solid Ground is a journey, both personal and cultural, through the world of earthquakes and earthquake prediction, one that seeks a middle ground between science and superstition, while also looking for a larger context in which seismicity might make sense. An excellent primer on the science of seismology, The Myth of Solid Ground looks at earthquakes as the ultimate metaphor for living with impending disaster.

Book Beating the Bounds

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sidney L. Green
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2013-03-08
  • ISBN : 1620326515
  • Pages : 281 pages

Download or read book Beating the Bounds written by Sidney L. Green and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the form of the classical symphony as an analytical and critical tool, Sidney Green examines the concepts of orthodoxy and heresy and their historical development in the Christian church and applies those to the confessional approach of the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON). Using examples from history of the early church, the Reformation, and the contemporary emerging church, Green examines how the concept of boundaries and the exercise of ecclesiastical authority have been applied. Contemporary attempts to respond to the postmodern paradigm producing a neo-dynamic view of orthodoxy, including radical ideas in the area of sexuality, are examined. Recognizing a dynamism in Anglican orthodoxy that is still very much alive alongside present attempts of conservative minorities to impose their view on the Communion--sometimes by very devious means--the distinctives of Anglican ecclesiology are discussed in the belief that ecclesiology is the outward expression of what theologically undergirds Anglican orthodoxy. Current attempts to bring harmony and stability in place of fracture and dissonance culminating in the suggestion of an Anglican Covenant are examined. Possible alternate ways forward are suggested centered on the primacy of love.

Book Bea Palya s I ll Be Your Plaything

Download or read book Bea Palya s I ll Be Your Plaything written by András Rónai and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2022-01-13 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, the state-run music industry in Hungary has artificially isolated musical worlds. The 2010 album I'll Be Your Plaything is a concept album comprising at times drastically re-imagined cover versions of Hungary's most popular hits from the socialist era. As such it is a testament to music as a medium's aptness to reflect on public and personal pasts. The album moreover exemplifies how rich and appealing synthesis of sounds and traditions can be concocted when folk, classically trained, rock, and jazz musical artists collaborate. Along with this freedom to blend and synthesize, the album opens up some long overdue space for women; playing with personas, voices, and singing styles, Palya reflects on issues of femininity, maternity, sexuality, and coupledom across generations.
