Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A serial killer haunts the city streets, a stalker of isolated women who leaves a Santa Claus hat at the scene of his crimes. Pavel, a Russian émigré, assists the police investigation as a sketch artist. But Pavel's true calling is as a tattoo artist, and the so-called Bad Santa killings conjure up memories of the nightmarish world in which he learned his craft: a Russian prison camp that shattered his childhood and destroyed his family. Shifting between the living hell of a 1940s Siberian gulag and the crime-ridden chaos of New York City during the 1970s, this graphic novel's stunning artwork provides an atmospheric backdrop to its tale of corruption, murder, and revenge. Author Jerome Charyn was acclaimed by The New York Review of Books as "a fearless writer. Brave and brazen." This edition of Little Tulip, which was originally published in French, features Charyn's new English translation. Award-winning illustrator François Boucq also collaborated with Charyn on the acclaimed graphic novels The Magician's Wife and Billy Budd, KGB. Suggested for mature readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Works of Eugene Field is a collection of poetry and essays by American author Eugene Field, originally published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1896 under the title The Writings in Prose and Verse of Eugene Field. Known for his children's poetry, especially the light-hearted "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod," Field was a journalist who found his niche in poetry and humor writing. The original collection, published after Field's death and including artwork and letters from the author, is a charming set of books compiling all his works. Republished here for young readers and collectors of Americana, The Works of Eugene Field is sure to delight audiences young and old. Volume IV of this twelve-volume set, Poems of Childhood, is the third collection of poetry in the series, separated into two sections, "With Trumpet and Drum," and "Love-Songs of Childhood." It contains several verses also printed in Volume I, A Little Book of Western Verse, which was the way Field arranged it when originally planning the series. EUGENE FIELD (1850-1895) was an American author known for his humorous essays and children's poetry. Interested in many subjects and unable to decide what to do with his life, Field attended three colleges-Williams College, Knox College, and University of Missouri-tried his hand at acting, law, and journalism, and traveled Europe before meeting his wife and becoming city editor for the St. Joseph Gazette in St. Joseph, Missouri. He wrote and edited for several newspapers, establishing himself as a humor writer and publishing poetry. He died of a heart-attack at 45.

Book excerpt: "Second Book of Verse" by Eugene Field is a delightful and enchanting collection of poetry that invites readers into the whimsical world of this beloved American writer. Published during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Field's second book of verse likely continues the tradition of his charming and nostalgic style. Within the pages of this collection, readers can anticipate encountering a variety of themes, each infused with Field's signature blend of playfulness and sentimentality. The poet's love for capturing the innocence of childhood is likely evident, with verses that celebrate the magic of imagination and the wonder found in everyday moments. Field may revisit his well-known characters like "Little Boy Blue" and "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod," continuing to weave their stories into the fabric of his poetry. Through these characters, he might explore themes of love, loss, and the enduring spirit of youth. The poet's ability to create vivid and memorable imagery, coupled with a rhythmic and melodic quality, is likely to shine throughout the collection.
