Family. Creativity. Happiness. And maybe even doing something more game-changing than you've ever thought possible." - Dave Asprey Why do some people thrive while others just get by? What's their secret to peak performance and maximum happiness? Some call it the zest, the gusto, or the extra edge in life. The ancient Indian spiritual tradition Vedanta calls it prana, or life force. We can call it vital force. By any name, it's the fundamental fuel that activates and optimizes all physical, emotional, and cognitive functions, including consciousness, perception, thinking, judgment, and memory. In modern life, we have forgotten the golden key-the higher our energy, the better our performance in everything we do. Energy naturally impacts mind-set and moves us toward greater happiness, success, and self-awareness. This book gives you back your power with simple tools to take hold of the limitless energy of life itself-more swiftly and easily than you ever thought possible. Rajshree Patel is a former federal prosecutor who discovered Vedanta by accident and went on to become an internationally renowned teacher of its deep wisdom and dynamic practice. In these pages, she reveals: What vital force is, how it influences every single aspect of your life, how to enhance it-and how your mind, the biggest energy hog, can drain it; Tools to dial down the chatter of your racing mind and resolve your personal energy crisis; Why traditional mindfulness meditation may not be your best path to inner peace; Easy biohacking techniques, from breath work to meditation to movement, that reduce stress and maximize joy; and Ancient secrets to fuel your purpose and performance in every aspect of your life. The Power of Vital Force is a practical pathway to the unlimited source of energy and intelligence that exists beyond the thinking and reasoning mind.
Download or read book The End of Night written by Paul Bogard and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deeply panoramic tour of the night, from its brightest spots to the darkest skies we have left. A starry night is one of nature's most magical wonders. Yet in our artificially lit world, three-quarters of Americans' eyes never switch to night vision and most of us no longer experience true darkness. In The End of Night, Paul Bogard restores our awareness of the spectacularly primal, wildly dark night sky and how it has influenced the human experience across everything from science to art. From Las Vegas' Luxor Beam -- the brightest single spot on this planet -- to nights so starlit the sky looks like snow, Bogard blends personal narrative, natural history, science, and history to shed light on the importance of darkness -- what we've lost, what we still have, and what we might regain -- and the simple ways we can reduce the brightness of our nights tonight.

Download or read book Arabian Hero written by Shāyiʿ al-Amsaḥ and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2024-10-22 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heroic deeds and words of a warrior poet of northern Arabia An epic hero and a poet, the semi-legendary Shāyiʿ al-Amsaḥ was a prominent ancestor of the Shammar tribal confederation that stretches across the Great Nafūd desert in the northern Arabian Peninsula. Shāyiʿ’s corpus of extant poems are preserved in narratives about his chivalrous exploits transmitted orally for centuries. In this volume, Marcel Kurpershoek vividly translates the deeds and verses of this compelling poet, based on recordings of late-twentieth century reciters, a testament to Shāyiʿ’s prominence as an embodiment of Bedouin virtue, courage, wiliness, and generosity. Born with one eye, Shāyiʿ presents himself as unattractive and unassuming, only to reveal a hero’s strength, sagacity, and wiliness. In a number of stories, he is shown hiding his identity, whether in disguise as an impoverished Bedouin or on a camel deliberately made to look mangy and weak. In the oral culture of the Bedouin, the epic cycle of Shāyiʿ al-Amsaḥ delights and instructs listeners through its unmasking of false appearances and its revelation of the hero’s true character. Translated into English for the first time, these engaging tales and poems tell of dangerous desert travel, warlike exploits, chivalrous conduct and its opposite, feats of hospitality that defy belief, and convey nuggets of wisdom from the Bedouin manual of survival, making this collection a colorful compendium of the manners and customs of the tribes of northern Arabia. A bilingual Arabic-English edition.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a story about crossing two oceans in a small 9m bond-wood sailing yacht. It is set in the early 1980's before the advent of GPS, satellite communication and electronic navigation systems. Wind coming up now. Blowing 30knots. No chance of a noon shot today, clouded over. Shadowfax is really taking it well, no leaks. The seas are breaking over the coachroof at times. Geez! Two big white walls of water come down into the cockpit the height of the wind vane, soaking the starboard quarter berth! She is proving herself an excellent sea vessel. The wind is now blowing 30 to 35knots. I have put three tucks in the main and hoisted the storm jib. The wind is still picking up. Dropped and lashed the main. Now blowing at least 40knots. Thank heavens from the south. The Walker log spinner is flying out of the water at times! It's 2200hours. Now she is flying! Going like a train under storm jib alone, surfing at about 12knots plus, more like planing! Unreal. She rides one wave and then the next. WHOOOSH then the boat shaking. WHOOOSH shaking again as she lifts up onto the wave crest and then flying down the face of the wave. It is pitch dark outside. We are battened down below. The wind vane is steering her beautifully. The wind is screeching in the rigging...... No sleep tonight. Extract from log: 14th March. South Atlantic Ocean. For all you would-be cruisers out there, an honest down to earth sailing adventure. A must read. So fasten your sailing harnesses and lets go adventuring.......
