Book Slander What Does the Bible Say About Slander

Download or read book Slander What Does the Bible Say About Slander written by Sandra Houston and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-10-22 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SLANDER IS NOTHING LESS THAN MURDER- MURDERING SOMEONE WITH WORDS! We, the common people, come across slander and libel very often these days with the advent of internet, social-networking sites, forums and blogs. It seems like people lost their ability to "think" before they speak or type anything harmful. It is not hush-hush secret gossips or private friendly "banters" anymore (which is equally sick and disgusting) but it is aired in public where it reaches almost everyone we know. Slanderers are mainly losers who lead loser lives. They are immature, envious, pessimistic attention-seekers who are desperate, unhappy and have a whole lot of mental conditions. Slander causes confusion, anger, shock, trauma, hurt, humiliation, stress, anxiety and depression to the victim and their loved ones. It is a crime and a deadly sin. The most painful thing is when someone who claims to be a Christian slanders a person with lies and assumptions. Christians who are slandered by other "Christians" is traumatized as it is confusing and unexpected to be attacked by someone of your own kind. But are those monsters really of your own kind? Do parts of the same body viz. Christ hurt each other? This book aims to show who a slanderer really is. They are NOT Christians. Understanding about the enemy's true color brings peace as truth will set you free. I know that I will be attacked by the so-called Christians who wants to justify their actions or hobbies of slandering. I don't care. All I want to do is to reach out to those who are being slandered. God bless you. -Sandra Houston

Book Justin against Marcion

    Book Details:
  • Author : Andrew Hayes
  • Publisher : Fortress Press
  • Release : 2017-04-01
  • ISBN : 1506420400
  • Pages : 270 pages

Download or read book Justin against Marcion written by Andrew Hayes and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2017-04-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a period where Christianity was only beginning to form a definitive identity, Marcion played a remarkable and generative role. Andrew Hayes takes the measure of his impact on second-century Christianity through a close examination of the topics and structure of Justin Martyr’s writings, especially the Dialogue with Trypho, demonstrating that Justin repeatedly described Christianity in a contra-Marcionite fashion. Arguing that the early part of the Dialogue is in fact a contra-Marcionite prelude to all the major themes in the rest of the piece, Hayes claims that the chief task Justin took for himself was to seize back from Marcion the terms of Christian self-definition. Marcion is thus far more important for Justin’s work than the few places where he is explicitly named might suggest, and Hayes shows that these texts are far from anomalous: they reveal Justin’s deeper agenda of presenting Marcion as a demonic instrument. Students of the second century, of Marcion and of Justin alike, will find much to reevaluate in these pages.

Book The Violence of the Lamb

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul Middleton
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2018-05-03
  • ISBN : 0567467228
  • Pages : 304 pages

Download or read book The Violence of the Lamb written by Paul Middleton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-05-03 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The act of martyrdom in the worldview of the Apocalypse has been considered to be an exemplification of non-violent resistance. Paul Middleton argues here, however, that it is in fact a representation of direct participation by Christians, through their martyrdom, in divine violence against those the author of Revelation portrays as God's enemies. Middleton shows that acceptance of martyrdom is to grasp the invitation to participate in the Revelation's divine violence. Martyrs follow the model laid down by the Lamb, who was not only slain, but resurrected, glorified, and who executes judgement. The world created by the Apocalypse encourages readers to conquer the Beast through martyrdom, but also through the experience of resurrection and being appointed judges. In this role, martyrs participate in the judgement of the wicked by sharing the Lamb's power to judge. Different from eschewing violence, the conceptual world of the Apocalypse portrays God, the Lamb, and the martyrs as possessing more power, might, and violent potential than the Emperor and his armies. Middleton believes that martyrdom and violence are necessary components of the worldview of Revelation.

Book excerpt: What do you get when you cross classical Hebrew with Koine Greek? It may sound like the metaphor for a strange new animal, but what it imparts is a fascinating dive into the Bible that’s rarely—if ever—been attempted before. In Hebrew versus Greek: A Devotional Study of Scripture Through Two Lenses, Hebrew scholar Chaim Bentorah and Greek scholar Chris Palmer explore fifty concepts from the Septuagint or LXX and explain the subtle differences found in Hebrew and Greek. You will discover how: God’s repentance over creating man benefits us Trusting in God binds us to His divine power God’s command to “fear not” gives us the authority to be courageous Saying there is no God is like walking through fog God embraces us with His strength in the dance of life The authors note that the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls has convinced many Bible scholars of the accuracy of the Septuagint. “This offers a whole new dimension to our understanding of the Old Testament and the importance of using the Greek Septuagint to explain some difficult passages,” Chaim notes. Hebrew versus Greek will draw you closer to the Lord through simple devotional lessons that explore the rich meanings found in these ancient languages.

Book The Claim of Humanity in Christ

Download or read book The Claim of Humanity in Christ written by Alexandra S Radcliff and published by James Clarke & Company. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the preaching and teaching today demands that people actively earn their relationship with God. This prevailing understanding runs counter to the theology of the brothers Thomas F. Torrance (1913-2007) and James B. Torrance (1923-2003), who promoted the radical notion that all of humanity has its true being in Christ. In The Claim of Humanity in Christ, Alexandra Radcliff refutes the Torrances' many critics, asserting the significance of their controversial understanding of salvation for the interface between systematic and pastoral theology. Radcliff then widens the scope of her argument, constructively applying the implications of the Torrances' work to a liberating doctrine of sanctification. The Christian life is conceived as the free and joyful gift of sharing by the Spirit in the Son's intimate communion with the Father, revealing the reality of who we are in Christ.

Book Apocalyptic Imagination in the Gospel of Mark

Download or read book Apocalyptic Imagination in the Gospel of Mark written by Elizabeth E. Shively and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-08-31 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This narrative study uses Mark 3:22–30 as an interpretive lens to show that the Gospel of Mark has a thoroughly apocalyptic outlook. That is, Mark 3:22–30 constructs a symbolic world that shapes the Gospel’s literary and theological logic. Mark utilizes apocalyptic discourse, portraying the Spirit-filled Jesus in a struggle against Satan to establish the kingdom of God by liberating people to form a community that does God’s will. This discourse develops throughout the narrative by means of repetition and variation, functioning rhetorically to persuade the reader that God manifests power out of suffering, rejection, and death. This book fits among literary studies that focus on Mark as a unified narrative and rhetorical composition, and uses narrative analysis as a key tool. While narrative approaches to Mark generally offer non-apocalyptic readings, this study clarifies the symbols, metaphors and themes of Mark 3:22–30 in light of the religious and social context in which the Gospel was produced in order to understand Mark’s persuasive aims towards the reader. Accordingly, a comparative analysis of Jewish apocalyptic literature informs the use of Mark 3:22–30 as a paradigm for the Gospel.

Book Conflict at Thessalonica

    Book Details:
  • Author : Todd D. Still
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 1999-10-01
  • ISBN : 0567421090
  • Pages : 345 pages

Download or read book Conflict at Thessalonica written by Todd D. Still and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1999-10-01 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses an important issue in Thessalonian research that has hitherto received inadequate scholarly attention: the conflict relations between Christians and non-Christians in Thessalonica. By engaging in careful exegesis of pertinent texts and by drawing upon ancient literary parallels and the social-scientific study of deviance and conflict, Still is able to spell out in some detail the specifics and the dynamics of Paul's and his Thessalonian converts' clash with outsiders. In this study, he shows that the conflict (thlipsis) in Thessalonica was rather complex-having varied origins, multiple causes, and mixed effects. As a result, this work not only provides a nuanced analysis of the conflict in Thessalonica, but also demonstrates that the Thessalonian correspondence can be best read when insider and outsider interaction is kept clearly in view.
