Jordan Hawke has been a loner since boyhood when his entire family was gunned down by the man his mother ran away with. Since then, he's been content with giving in to ongoing and intense feelings of distrust. However, as Jordan finds himself glaring through the window of a Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Train-focused on a solitary, female rider wearing a brown fedora with a red bandana masking half of her face-he can't help but doubt his gut instinct. That is-until the train skids off the tracks and derails into a ditch. Maybe he was right the first time around: women can't be trusted... Alana James is a woman who answers to no one. And she's made up her mind-Jordan is just as dangerous as the conman who murdered her father. But after a shocking derailment refuge comes for the James-Younger Gang she's traveling with-at the farm of a Quantrill Raider-Jesse James bargains with Jordan to take Alana home. And all of a sudden...Alana feels as if her independence is being ripped away. So, she does the only thing she can think of-she refuses. She also demands that Jordan help her catch the man who shot her father. If he agrees-fine. But Alana promises to waste no love along the way. As Jordan seeks to capture a female bank robber and recover $100,000.00 before Allan Pinkerton arrests him and Alana gets an unexpected lead on the counterfeiting conman, both plunge into a Cherokee Nation full of enemies and outlaws. In this intense race against time, life and death circumstances threaten to destroy Jordan and Alana unless trust and love are surrendered...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Connor Mason lived a life of privilege like no other. He was wealthy, handsome, intelligent, and for thrill and glory became the masked vigilante known as the Glider, soaring across Bulwark City on a high-tech flying machine called the hover-glider. His world was flipped upside down as he was "drafted" by a team of intergalactic peacemaking aliens called the Sky Fighters. They needed his help to take down Lord Kohl von Raumon, an intergalactic terrorist of the planet Thera, bent on conquering all four populated planets: Haret, Tareh, Thera, and Earth. When Raumon cleverly repels the super-powered Tarians, the strong weaponized Therians, and the battle-strategic Haretians, it will take the creative genius and skill of an Earthian to push him back, and only the combined forces of a Sky Fighter from each planet and the powerful Everlaster, Roivas, can bring down Raumon and his army of mutated Therians. But Raumon is not their only enemy. Natas, an evil Everlaster, is a strong force with many powers and minions under his control. When Connor is poisoned by Natas, he must conquer his own pride and face the mysteries of the past he fears or else perish at the hands of the universe's deadliest enemy. With the power of Roivas to strengthen them and his wisdom to guide them, not even Raumon will stand in the Sky Fighters' path to victory.

Book Bullets Not Ballots

Download or read book Bullets Not Ballots written by Jacqueline L. Hazelton and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2021-05-15 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Bullets Not Ballots, Jacqueline L. Hazelton challenges the claim that winning "hearts and minds" is critical to successful counterinsurgency campaigns. Good governance, this conventional wisdom holds, gains the besieged government popular support, denies support to the insurgency, and makes military victory possible. Hazelton argues that major counterinsurgent successes since World War II have resulted not through democratic reforms but rather through the use of military force against civilians and the co-optation of rival elites. Hazelton offers new analyses of five historical cases frequently held up as examples of the effectiveness of good governance in ending rebellions—the Malayan Emergency, the Greek Civil War, the Huk Rebellion in the Philippines, the Dhofar rebellion in Oman, and the Salvadoran Civil War—to show that, although unpalatable, it was really brutal repression and bribery that brought each conflict to an end. By showing how compellence works in intrastate conflicts, Bullets Not Ballots makes clear that whether or not the international community decides these human, moral, and material costs are acceptable, responsible policymaking requires recognizing the actual components of counterinsurgent success—and the limited influence that external powers have over the tactics of counterinsurgent elites.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NO ONE WANTED ANOTHER WAR Thomas Theisman didn't. After risking his life and a fresh round of civil war to overthrow the Committee of Public Safety's reign of terror and restore the Republic of Haven's ancient Constitution, an interstellar war was the last thing he wanted. Baron High Ridge didn't. The Prime Minister of Manticore was perfectly happy with the war he had. No one was shooting anyone else at the moment, and as long as he could spin out negotiations on the formal treaty of peace, his government could continue to milk all those "hostilities only" tax measures for their own partisan projects. His Imperial Majesty Gustav didn't. Now that the fighting between the Star Kingdom and the Havenites had ended, the Andermani Emperor had his own plans for Silesia, and he was confident he could achieve them without a war of his own. Protector Benjamin didn't. His people had made too deep a commitment to the Manticoran Alliance, in blood as well as treasure, for him to want to risk seeing it all thrown away. And Honor Harrington certainly didn't. The "Salamander" had seen the inside of too many furnaces already, knew too much about how much war cost. Unfortunately, what they wanted didn't matter.... And now she was his wife, swept into marriage with a man who would sear her with the hellfire of his desire and make her his prisoner of love. Lord Eric Cameron turned his back on his family’s estates in England to embrace the patriots’ cause. Amanda was the woman he had vowed to conquer, the spy he would never surrender—even at the risk of his life.

Book A Financial History of the United States From Christopher Columbus to the Robber Barons 1492 1900

Download or read book A Financial History of the United States From Christopher Columbus to the Robber Barons 1492 1900 written by Jerry W. Markham and published by M.E. Sharpe. This book was released on 2002 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first comprehensive financial history of the United States in more than thirty years. Accessible to undergraduate level readers, it focuses on the growth and expansion of banking, securities, and insurance from the colonial period right up to the incredible growth of the stock market during the 1990s and the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001. The author traces the origins of American finance to the older societies of Europe and Northern Africa, and shows how English merchants transferred their financial systems to America. He explains how financial matters dominated the founding and development of the colonies, and how financial concerns incited the Revolution. And he shows how the Civil War began the transformation of America from a small economy largely dependent on foreign capital into a complex capitalist society. From the Civil War, the nation's financial history breaks down into periods of frenzied speculation, quiet growth, periodic panics, and furious periods of expansion, right up through the incredible growth of the stock market during the 1990s.

Book Understanding The Anatomy of Evil

Download or read book Understanding The Anatomy of Evil written by William Nitardy and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2016-04-14 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines the anatomy of evil in the realm of ideological and philosophical beliefs. This includes politics, culture, religion, science and law. It attempts to answer many questions by giving the reader a better understanding of all aspects of evil including stealth evils that are not even on our radar. Although the author uses many scriptural verses to support the book’s thesis, it does not simply rely on scripture, but relies on probability science and rationale to draw conclusions while showing consistency with and support of scripture. Although the author is convinced that the bible is the infallible Word of God and believes in biblical Christianity, he is very critical of denominational Christianity and other religions including pseudo-science and other religions that masquerade as secular entities. He believes that the rapid and virtually complete secularization of our society has only been possible because of the many false foundations that have been established and accepted as fact when they are completely false and destructive. Those false foundations justify and support many evils that have been and are being promoted in America. The book discusses the situation in which America finds itself where we are being destroyed and are near the point of no return. The book addresses the current political situation and the upcoming presidential election. The final chapter of the book is to encourage skeptics to believe the truth of the bible through rational evidence. Although this book should connect well with Christians, it is hoped that the rational approach taken would attract atheists, agnostics, and skeptics as well as pastors and religious leaders. Pastors and religious leaders are encouraged to teach the full council of God by relating scriptural principles to our evil culture and even go so far as to attack the false foundations that are making the gospel irrelevant or addressing the contaminated soil that prevents the gospel seeds from germinating.
