Book excerpt: Skullcaps 'N Switchblades has been an excited ride. The book has been reprinted six times and sold over 50,000 copies, which ain't too shabby considering it was first available only in Judaic outlets. But much more important than the numbers, are the letters and feedback I receive from the readers. Some tell me that they are "non-readers" and that this book was the first one they actually read cover to cover. Others tell me that they've reread the book several times throughout the years. One proud fan told me he lost count after reading it more than a hundred times! And I still get emails and notices on social media how adults are now sharing the book with their children and grandchildren. I'm excited to present this expanded version of the book. The original publisher decided to remove several episodes, as they mainly dealt with some negative encounters with various school administrators. I urged for them to be included in that the relationship between teachers and the admin, and in fact, between employee and employer, is a huge part of most people's working situations. It may even be the most important factor in determining whether you stay on or leave the job. Hope you enjoy the book and it gives you some laughs and inspiration. One huge thing I learned from my students is that we have far more that unites us than divides us. Wishing you all peace, love, and... soul!

Book Of Saffron Flags and Skullcaps

Download or read book Of Saffron Flags and Skullcaps written by Ziya Us Salam and published by SAGE Publications Pvt. Limited. This book was released on 2018-07-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in an age when most Muslims take pride in singing Saare Jahan Se Achcha, penned by Muhammad Iqbal. Many though have forgotten that the same poet-philosopher called Ram as Imam-e-Hind. The Hindutva forces, meanwhile, have forgotten the unifying Saare Jahan Se Achcha in their pursuit of divisive nationalism. Their exclusionary politics stems from a mindset of self-limiting segregation: a world of ‘we’ and ‘they’, a world where a Muslim man is lynched for refusing to say ‘Vande Mataram’. Of Saffron Flags and Skullcaps attempts to trace the growth of the Hindutva ideology from the time of V.D. Savarkar and M.S. Golwalkar to the contemporary age, and how it precedes any talk of Muslim appeasement. Faced with these existential challenges, the Muslim community is involved in simultaneous churning within where the words of Islamic scholar and teacher Farhat Hashmi are bringing about a silent change at the grassroots level. Amidst all the challenges, the idea of India, often challenged, continues to show the way to a nation looking for direction.

Book Phytopharmacy

  • Author : Sarah E. Edwards
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2015-02-17
  • ISBN : 1118543459
  • Pages : 438 pages

Download or read book Phytopharmacy written by Sarah E. Edwards and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-02-17 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healthcare professionals, including doctors, pharmacists and nurses, are often confronted with patients who use over-the-counter (OTC) herbal medicinal products and food supplements. While taking responsibility for one’s own health and treatment options is encouraged, many patients use these products based on limited (and sometimes inaccurate) information from non-scientific sources, such as the popular press and internet. There is a clear need to offer balanced, well-informed advice to patients, yet a number of studies have shown that, generally, conventionally trained health practitioners consider their knowledge about herbal medicinal products and supplements to be weak. Phytopharmacy fills this knowledge gap, and is intended for use by the busy pharmacist, nurse, or doctor, as well as the ‘expert patient’ and students of pharmacy and herbal medicine. It presents clear, practical and concise monographs on over a hundred popular herbal medicines and plant-based food supplements. Information provided in each monograph includes: • Indications • Summary and appraisal of clinical and pre-clinical evidence • Potential interactions • Contraindications • Possible adverse effects An overview of the current regulatory framework is also outlined, notably the EU Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive. This stipulates that only licensed products or registered traditional herbal medicinal products (THRs), which have assured quality and safety, can now legally be sold OTC. Monographs are included of most of the major herbal ingredients found in THRs, and also some plant-based food supplements, which while not strictly medicines, may also have the potential to exert a physiological effect.

Book The Earthwise Herbal Volume II

Download or read book The Earthwise Herbal Volume II written by Matthew Wood and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2009-04-28 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this companion volume to The Earthwise Herbal: A Complete Guide to Old World Medicinal Plants, Matthew Wood, an expert herbalist who has used medicinal herbs with tens of thousands of patients over a twenty-five-year career, provides detailed descriptions of New World (North American) herbs and their uses. Organized as a materia medica (names and descriptions of herbs/plants are listed alphabetically), the book explains the use of the whole plant (not just “active ingredients”) in the treatment of the whole person and describes symptoms and conditions that the plants have been successful in treating—from digestive ailments, headaches, and high blood pressure to asthma, skin rashes, and allergies, to name a few. Wood, who has systematically studied ancient and traditional herbal literature, takes a historical view and presents information in a thoughtful, engaging, nontechnical style. In addition, he provides remarkable case studies as well as insight into the “logic” of each plant—its current and past usage, pharmacological constituents, and other elements that together produce a comprehensive portrait of each herb.
