Book Skinny Legs and Fat Cheeks

Download or read book Skinny Legs and Fat Cheeks written by Joseph Cassis and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skinny Legs and Fat Cheeks is about two animals with unique characteristics that are first perceived as having bad attributes of their bodies but they end up as being lifesavers. Zuri, the giraffe, has a very long neck and skinny legs which are quite unique, however, considered by Kubwa, the hippopotamus, to be funny looking when compared to his huge and stubby fat body. By calling each other names based upon these characteristics, these magnificent creatures point out these differences and clearly state they would never consider each other as friends. However, they both soon find out how those qualities actually are blessings because they save each other from losing their lives during a horrific wildfire. This terrible experience could have been devastating, but instead, a bonding one where the giraffe and hippopotamus become true friends despite their body differences. This book is to highlight how people can quickly judge others instead of celebrating their differences; and those unique qualities could even be lifesaving.

Book The Impatient Dr Lange

Download or read book The Impatient Dr Lange written by Seema Yasmin and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful tribute to one of the greatest scientists, activists, humanitarians, and social entrepreneurs in the world of HIV/AIDS. When Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down by pro-Russian rebels in July 2014, the world wondered if a cure for HIV had disappeared. Seated in the plane’s business-class cabin was Joseph Lange, better known as Joep, a shrewd Dutch doctor who had revolutionized the world of HIV and AIDS and was working on a cure. Dr. Lange graduated from medical school in 1981, right as a new plague swept across the globe. He studied ways to battle HIV and prevent its spread from mother to child. Fighting the injustices of poverty, Lange advocated for better access to health care for the poor and the vulnerable. He championed the drug cocktail that finally helped rein in the disease and was a vocal proponent of prophylactic treatment for those most at risk of contracting HIV. The Impatient Dr. Lange is the story of one man’s struggle against a global pandemic—and the tragic attack that may have slowed down the search for a cure. Seema Yasmin draws on written records, medical journals, recorded discussions, expert testimony, and extensive interviews with Lange’s family, friends, and colleagues around the globe—including the people he spoke to in the days before he died. She faithfully reconstructs key scenes from Lange’s life and the history of the AIDS epidemic, revealing how Lange became a global leader in the fight against AIDS. “A thrilling history of the investigation of one of the greatest plagues in human history.” —Lawrence Wright, Pulitzer Prize-winning author

Book The Neal Barrett Jf Off the Wall Trilogy

Download or read book The Neal Barrett Jf Off the Wall Trilogy written by Neal Barrett Jr. and published by Crossroad Press. This book was released on 2015-10-16 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three complete novels in one volume from a master of dark noir and comic mystery... PINK VODKA BLUES Russell Murray is the editor of a literary magazine in Chicago. He drinks way too much. And he's in big trouble when he wakes up in a hotel room with a beautiful woman just before two men come into the room and kill her. They try to kill Murray, too, but he gets away. Things never slow down after that. Wanted for murder, Murray winds up in a detox center in Wisconsin. He escapes along with a beautiful redhead named Sherry Lou Wynn. One of his many problems is that he has no memory of where he's been or what he's done. He and Sherry Lou try to stay alive while being pursued around the country by homicidal goons, including the murderous Wacker twins and a blue-haired, tennis-shoe wearing granny with an Uzi. Bones Pinelli wants his briefcase back, by golly, and he doesn't care who dies as long as he gets it. DEAD DOG BLUES Nothing ever happens in Pharaoh, Texas... Drunks and missing auto parts headline the local crime wave until a barking dead dog shows up in millionaire Max Coomer's backyard. Then Coomer himself is discovered frosty cold and very dead, running for fame and glory forever down the gridiron at Pharaoh High. That's just the beginning of the mayhem that erupts in a sleepy Texas town — and the start of temporary constable Jack Track's nightmarish pursuit of a maniac who doesn't like anyone in Pharaoh, Texas. There are enough bizarre characters in Dead Dog Blues to convince any reader to steer clear of small towns. There's Jack's best friend, Earl Murphy, a black man who made a fortune on Wall Street and sleeps in his white Aston-Martin Lagonda by Jack's creek. There's George, the catfish mogul, and cheery funeral director Eddie Trost —plus an ever-growing cast of the local missing and dead. Jack is content with lovely Cecily Benét, the frozen-yogurt queen, until Max Coomer's widow, Millie Jean, decides to fan the flames of her high-school romance with Jack — an affair that turns into double trouble when Millies jailbait daughter, Smoothy, takes a run at Jack herself. BAD EYE BLUES Dinner with gorgeous aeronautical engineer Claire de Mer holds the promise of heavenly bliss for Wiley Moss — until two manic mobsters toss him on a cross-country bus and shuffle him off to Idaho. Hey, no big deal. All Vinnie "Spuds" DeMarco wants from Wiley, who earns his living making illustrations of insects for the Smithsonian Institution, is "semi-decent pitchas — no smut — "of his eighteen resident cuties, naturally named the Spudettes. Nice work if you can get it, only Wiley can't seem to find the time for romance and art. Someone's knocking off the hoods at the Mount Vincent High Country Lodge and Whitewater Resort — someone with an attitude who wants everybody dead.
