Book Transitions from Education to Work

Download or read book Transitions from Education to Work written by Roslyn Cameron and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Labour markets are becoming more dynamic in response to pressures from globalisation, new technologies and trade agreements, as well as cross-border migration, inter-generation differences, changing education imperatives and employer expectations. By focusing on several Asia Pacific countries, this book explores the differences in their workforces: ageing, or abundant in labour but lacking in skilled employees. One similarity these countries share is the difficulty in attracting and retaining employees with the required skillset and capabilities, and these constraints can stymie national economic growth and long term development. This book brings together national and international perspectives on employability challenges faced by selected countries in the Asia Pacific region. While the region is forecast to enjoy high growth in the coming decade, a recurring challenge is addressing skill shortages and ensuring effective transition from training colleges and universities into employment. Consequently, the book focuses on the roles of multiple stakeholders, primarily: governments, education providers and employers – in more effectively addressing these key socio-economic challenges.

Book Talent Turnover Intention of Civil Engineers from India

Download or read book Talent Turnover Intention of Civil Engineers from India written by Atluri Bala Saraswathi and published by Eliva Press. This book was released on 2023-09-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil engineers tend to move between construction organizations in the employment market due to employee's individual perception/requirement/need. The study has been initiated with a thorough literature review and variables have been picked and collected for further study. During literature review it realised that good volume of talent turnout study has been carried out in other than civil engineering stream/s by researcher in past time. From the study it is found that previous researches have not considered project site location/ working location as one of the variables in their study. Hence, the present study has been carried out considering the project site location as an independent variable. To confirm reliability of the questionnaire, pilot study has been carried out. To do so 15% of sample responses has been collected and analysed for reliability. McDonald's omega found to be greater than the base value for four dimensions and point estimate is found to be 0.874. Considering the reliability test questionnaire has been frozen, responses has been collected from sample on/off line and the responses have been collated, analyzed. The model Fit appears to be good as the Root Mean Square Error Approximation (RMSEA)=0.07, Comparative Fit Index (CFI)=0.91, Tucker Lewis Index(TLI)=0.90 and thus model fit turns out to be satisfactory( Hair Jr et all 2018). From mediation testing it is noted that the project site location is directly influencing the talent turnout and the relationship between project site location and talent turnout is found to be influenced by mediators like, pay, training etc.

Book The Role of Engineers in the Demand Responsive Approach

Download or read book The Role of Engineers in the Demand Responsive Approach written by Annette Bos and published by WEDC, Loughborough University. This book was released on 2001 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demand responsive approach (DRA) is advocated both internationally and in South Africa as the approach to ensure sustainable water services because communities are fully engaged in the project process. Although DRA is widely discussed, it has not been adopted in practice. The adoption of DRA can only happen if supply agencies, including technical consultants are able and willing to take a different role. This study establishes the role of an ideal engineer in the demand responsive approach (DRA) along with the external factors which influence this role. The ideal and existing roles of the engineer and the external factors are compared and a gulf between these has been identified. Conclusions are drawn from this and the feasibility of adoption of DRA by engineers in South Africa has been analysed. The study is based on interviews with engineers.

Book Skills Development for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Developing Asia Pacific

Download or read book Skills Development for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth in Developing Asia Pacific written by Rupert Maclean and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-09 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focusing on the Asia-Pacific region, which in recent years has been the engine of global economic growth , this volume surveys trends and prospects in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) with particular reference to achieving inclusive growth and the greening of economies. Underlying the increasing pressure for new models of TVET provision is the rapid pace of technological change, demand for a work force which is highly responsive to evolving needs and a transforming market place that calls for higher order skills and lifelong learning. The book proposes a re-engineered, modernized TVET system that fosters an innovative approach which enhances the employability of workers as well as the sustainability of their livelihoods. The book includes contributions from leading policy makers, researchers, and practitioners, including those in the private sector in analyzing and forecasting the most urgent priorities in skills development. The book argues for creative approaches to TVET design and delivery particularly with a view to improve job prospects , and meeting the goals of inclusion, sustainable development and social cohesion. Addressing issues such as the chronic mismatches between skills acquired and actual skills required in the work place, the volume proposes diversified approaches towards workforce development and partnerships with the private sector to improve the quality and relevance of skills development . The new imperatives created by ‘greening’ economies and responses required in skills development and training are addressed. Developing TVET is a high priority for governments in the Asia Pacific region as they seek to achieve long-term sustainable growth since the .continued success of their economic destinies depend on it. The volume also includes an emerging framework for skills development for inclusive and sustainable growth in the Asia and Pacific region.

Book The Irrigation Sector

Download or read book The Irrigation Sector written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1999 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India's irrigated agriculture sector has been basic to India's economic development and poverty alleviation. One of India's major achievements is its rapid expansion of irrigation and drainage infrastructure. However, the major emphasis on development has been achieved at a cost. The importance put on new construction has diverted attention away from the need to ensure the quality, productivity, and sustainability of the services. Further, a governmental subsidy based approach has been used and this has resulted in irrigation and drainage services which, while enabling significantly higher productivity than from non-irrigated lands, are well below their potential. 'The Irrigation Sector' discusses directions for future growth, the framework for reform, and the reform agenda.

Book Understanding the Educational and Career Pathways of Engineers

Download or read book Understanding the Educational and Career Pathways of Engineers written by National Academy of Engineering and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2019-01-26 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering skills and knowledge are foundational to technological innovation and development that drive long-term economic growth and help solve societal challenges. Therefore, to ensure national competitiveness and quality of life it is important to understand and to continuously adapt and improve the educational and career pathways of engineers in the United States. To gather this understanding it is necessary to study the people with the engineering skills and knowledge as well as the evolving system of institutions, policies, markets, people, and other resources that together prepare, deploy, and replenish the nation's engineering workforce. This report explores the characteristics and career choices of engineering graduates, particularly those with a BS or MS degree, who constitute the vast majority of degreed engineers, as well as the characteristics of those with non-engineering degrees who are employed as engineers in the United States. It provides insight into their educational and career pathways and related decision making, the forces that influence their decisions, and the implications for major elements of engineering education-to-workforce pathways.
