Download or read book Workforce Development and Skill Formation in Asia written by John Benson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-29 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asia has undergone rapid transformation over the past several decades as many countries have embraced new technologies and the processes of globalisation. Over this period the inflow of foreign capital into the region, the level of trade amongst these countries, and trade with other parts of the world has increased substantially. The ensuing economic growth has led to some significant changes in labour markets and the demand for skilled employees and their deployment within organisations. Focusing on a number of developed and developing Asian economies, this book explores the dynamics of workforce development and skill formation, and considers questions of both skills shortages and skills gaps. The book assesses the current state of training in the selected Asian economies, the weaknesses and strengths of their various training approaches, and what the present state of training means for the future economic development of these economies.

Book Education Human Capital Investment and Innovation in the Contemporary Japanese Economy

Download or read book Education Human Capital Investment and Innovation in the Contemporary Japanese Economy written by Tamotsu Nakamura and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-18 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes education in Japan from the viewpoint of “the stagnant current Japanese economy”. Tomoyuki Tamagawa, a long-time mathematics teacher in junior high school, is now a vice principal. He and Tamotsu Nakamura have written Chapter 1 of this book together because they believe that the loss of vitality in the Japanese economy is due to the problem of human capital formation in school education. Shinji Oi has worked for many years at a Japanese broadcasting station and has extensive experience in human resource development. In Chapter 2, he analyzes the relationship between optimal human capital investment and labor market mobility, based on his recognition of the importance of vocational training, or human capital investment at the firm and the necessity for good allocation of human resources. Tokuji Saita is well versed not only in the realities and practices in the financial industry but also in the financial system as a whole. In Chapter 3, based on his long experience in the financial industry, he analyzes and points out the importance of “openness” of innovation from a macroeconomic point of view.

Book Recent Trends in Human Resource Development

Download or read book Recent Trends in Human Resource Development written by Tadashi Amaya and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses human resources development (HRD) in Japanese industry. Chapter I addresses changing industrial and occupational structures as a foundation for planning and constructing management strategy, especially for business restructuring. The actual situation regarding business diversification is considered, and an attempt is made to portray the status of staff development activities. The chapter examines the presence of personnel management structures that hamper employees in working as they were trained, as well as countermeasures adopted by some advanced Japanese companies. Attempts to overcome the problem of in-company job conversion are described. Finally, the chapter reviews the actual situation of diversified employment patterns and prospects for the future. Chapter II discusses the fundamentals of personnel management based on the capability principle. A new concept of this principle is proposed that is based on the idea of capabilities development. A method of personnel management is discussed with which decision making by employees can be applied to a wider range of ideas. Chapter III examines the methodological problems of how to bring about personnel management selected by employees from three points of view: personnel management by voluntary choice and career planning, the extent of application and operation of career development planning, and the most desirable course for the future.
