Book Sketches of Great Painters for Young People Classic Reprint

Download or read book Sketches of Great Painters for Young People Classic Reprint written by Colonna Murray Dallin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-24 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sketches of Great Painters for Young People Pictures should play an important part in the edu cation of young people. The study of the art treasures of the world, revealing, as they do, the thoughts and feelings of great men of all ages and climes, helps greatly in the development of mind and character. Such study not only is a source of pleasure, but leads to a deeper knowledge of nature and of life, for the artist stands as an interpreter between nature and man. The primary object of this book is to interest young people in the lives and the works of some of the mas ters of painting. A secondary object is to aid them in making collections of photographs. This work is of real value to them, and they should be encouraged in it, for it is through familiarity with pictures that one learns to understand and love them. At the end of the book is placed a list of pictures, photographs of which are recommended for mounting. In choosing photographs, care should be taken to select those which are reproductions from the original pic tures, and not from engravings or copies. The photo graphs recommended for mounting and many others mentioned in the volume may be obtained of Messrs. C. H. Dunton Co., Boston, Mass, to whom thanks are due for their courtesy in supplying many of the photographs used in illustrating this book. Book Stories of Great Artists Classic Reprint

Download or read book Stories of Great Artists Classic Reprint written by Olive Browne Horne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Stories of Great Artists IN trying to interest the children of our own school in some of the world' s great pictures and the artists who painted them, we felt the need of reading material on the subject. We searched for it, but found nothing that could be put into the hands of young children. The sketches contained in this book were then written. The lessons given are intended for supplementary reading in the third and fourth grades. We suggest that picture study precede the reading in class of each sketch. The abundance of good copies of the masterpieces of art, which may be obtained at a very small price, makes the accomplishment of this easy. A. Picture never fails to arouse the interest of a child. Through good pictures he may be taught to recognize and appreciate the beautiful in art. May we not hope that this will lead him to an appreciation of the good and the beautiful in whatsoever form it may be presented to him? Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gallery of Famous Painters: A History of Art in All Counties and Ages It is not altogether impossible that our worthy citizen himself may have undergone something of this kind, long ago perhaps, when he was younger, less prosperous, and less careworn. There is no doubt that the mind is more open to such impressions in the days of sweet youth; unless, indeed, they take such lasting root there, as to preserve the mind in perpetual youth, amidst the decay and death of nature. You cannot fail Of finding him at home, when the sun gets above yonder loop-hole, and that is about the tenth hour in the morning. The stranger drew a small tablet from under his robe, and seemed to be about inscribing his name. Suddenly he approached the panel, and, taking a pencil, which lay near, drew simply a line. As he looked up, he perceived the Old woman looking intently upon it. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Great Portraits Children Classic Reprint

Download or read book Great Portraits Children Classic Reprint written by Philip Leslie Hale and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-26 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Great Portraits: Children Still, practically every great painter has tried his hand at painting children at least once or twice, and most of them have produced excellent work; only a man may turn out a very respectable portrait of a child and yet not be a true painter of children. To do that well there is needed a certain insight into child charac ter. Not that a child has a very subtle or complicated character, but it is a character all the same and one that can be divined only by sympathy. Constable once said that to a man who approached Nature in an arrogant spirit her choicest beauties re mained forever veiled. One might 'say this particularly about children. We feel instinctively that only those who love children can paint them. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Painters, Pictures and the People This incontrovertible condition at once places a twofold responsibility upon the artist, for, while working primarily to be respected in his profession, he must please a sometimes very fickle public besides. Take some other artistic profession-that of the architect, for instance for contrast; the architect may ignore the public, usually, and produce entirely for the satisfaction of his Single client and the relatively small number of his fellow architects. It is dif ferent with the painter. It is very perplexing, to the artist and public alike, that their two judg ments differ so widely - to the artist, who can not understand what he calls the whims Of the public, and much more to the public, which finds only very few painters to its liking, and then not always those the profession would put on a pedestal. Why is this? What is it that outsiders find so attractive about Bohemia? They would not live and work in a smell of paint and varnish and snatch scanty meals in the midst of the muddle. They have little taste for poverty, which is only picturesque to the outsider. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
