Book excerpt: For Lyn Traill, childhood was scarred by violence and abuse ranging from the emotional to the physical. But through it all, a shimmering flicker of hope stubbornly refused to be extinguished. Now she shares her story, told with honesty, pathos, and humor. Lyn’s resilience in the face of abuse illustrates how life can change dramatically when we are open to becoming better observers. Her journey travels down some dark pathways before revealing a remarkable transformation. Here, she shares the strategies that have taken her from victim to victorious. A major turning point in her life appeared when she discovered ontology, the study of being—what it means to be human. Ontology focuses on the dynamic interrelationship among three areas of human existence: the language we use, which creates our reality; the emotions we live in, as our moods and emotions have a direct bearing on our actions; and the effects of both on our bodies. The role of the body in sustainable change has been greatly underrated. Are you seeking a way to untangle and improve your life? By clearing away the dead embers of old flames, you can ignite the sizzle you may have thought had disappeared. Lyn’s victory is proof that it is never too late to start sizzling!

Book I Love It When You Talk Retro

Download or read book I Love It When You Talk Retro written by Ralph Keyes and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2009-03-31 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An entertaining and informative book about the fashion and fads of language Today's 18-year-olds may not know who Mrs. Robinson is, where the term "stuck in a groove" comes from, why 1984 was a year unlike any other, how big a bread box is, how to get to Peyton Place, or what the term Watergate refers to. I Love It When You Talk Retro discusses these verbal fossils that remain embedded in our national conversation long after the topic they refer to has galloped off into the sunset. That could be a person (Mrs. Robinson), product (Edsel), past bestseller (Catch-22), radio or TV show (Gangbusters), comic strip (Alphonse and Gaston), or advertisement (Where's the beef?) long forgotten. Such retroterms are words or phrases in current use whose origins lie in our past. Ralph Keyes takes us on an illuminating and engaging tour through the phenomenon that is Retrotalk—a journey, oftentimes along the timelines of American history and the faultlines of culture, that will add to the word-lover's store of trivia and obscure references. "The phrase "drinking the Kool-Aid" is a mystery to young people today, as is "45rpm." Even older folks don't know the origins of "raked over the coals" and "cut to the chase." Keyes (The QuoteVerifier) uses his skill as a sleuth of sources to track what he calls "retrotalk": "a slippery slope of puzzling allusions to past phenomena." He surveys the origins of "verbal fossils" from commercials (Kodak moment), jurisprudence (Twinkie defense), movies (pod people), cartoons (Caspar Milquetoast) and literature (brave new world). Some pop permutations percolated over decades: Radio's Take It or Leave It spawned a catch phrase so popular the program was retitled The $64 Question and later returned as TV's The $64,000 Question. Keyes's own book Is There Life After High School? became both a Broadway musical and a catch phrase. Some entries are self-evident or have speculative origins, but Keyes's nonacademic style and probing research make this both an entertaining read and a valuable reference work." --Publishers Weekly

Book Tales of Old Texas or The Adventures of Bullfrog

Download or read book Tales of Old Texas or The Adventures of Bullfrog written by Weldon Reed and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-02-08 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his autobiography, Mark Twain stated, "In the small town of Hannibal, Missouri, when I was a boy, everybody was poor but didn't know it, and everybody was comfortable and did know it." This comment certainly applied to Cleburne, Texas, where Reed grew up from the mid-1940s through the 1950s. At least this was true on his side of town, northeast Cleburne across the Santa Fe railroad tracks. He lived on Sabine Street, and it was still just graveled even when he graduated from high school in 1959. Just about everybody on his street still had outdoor johns even then. Reed has been writing bimonthly articles for his hometown newspaper, the Cleburne Times-Review, since 2016, detailing the zany escapades, ludicrous stunts, and laughable situations he would place himself in from time to time as regular as clockwork. Mix a gullible youngster with a prankster of an uncle and a daredevil father, and anything goes. The incidents were many: a broken arm from falling off a donkey that his Uncle O. B. placed him on, a sore head from attempting to butt down a door after drinking what his uncle said was goat's milk, being put in a jail cell at the age of twelve for stealing a thirty-five-cent wheel bearing for his bicycle, proving pathetic both as a fighter and a football player, he and two friends smoking an entire carton of Luckies in two and a half hours. The list is interminable. Unfortunately, as he grew older, he really did not outgrow this "propensity for absurdity" but continued to demonstrate it on a frequent basis as his family would agree .

Book Sizzling Sex for Life

    Book Details:
  • Author : Michael Castleman
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2021-01-12
  • ISBN : 1510762566
  • Pages : 575 pages

Download or read book Sizzling Sex for Life written by Michael Castleman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Castleman, the world's most popular sex expert, has written the most comprehensive, authoritative, reassuring, and practical guide to lifelong pleasure for men and the women who love them. Library Journal calls him “one of the nation’s top health writers.” Medical journalist Michael Castleman has answered more than 12,000 sex questions throughout his career, including on his website GreatSexGuidance.com, through his "All About Sex" blog on Psychology Today, or even when he used to answer all the sex questions for Playboy’s “Advisor” column in the '90s. From his numerous years of experience comes this, the most thorough consumer sexuality guide ever written. It’s full of state-of-the-art sex information and sage advice, all written by a decades-long trusted sex author. Sizzling Sex for Life addresses men, but is exquisitely sensitive to women’s sexual sensibilities. While it focuses on sexual enhancement and the resolution of individual and couple sex problems, it transcends similar books by delving into social/political sexual issues, including school sex education and pornography—and in today’s fraught #MeToo environment, prevention of sexual assault and harassment. This compelling, sex-positive guide will benefit men and women, from the teen years to old age. It offers an in-depth investigation of sexual issues throughout the lifespan, based on 2,500 studies published over the past seventy years—more source material by far than any other sex guide. This book truly does it all, and does it respectfully. It reassures men that their sexual concerns can usually be happily resolved with self-help or brief professional therapy: penis size issues, premature ejaculation, orgasm/ejaculation difficulties, arousal problems, and erectile dysfunction. It comforts women that they can rediscover lost libido, have orgasms every time, and cure their sexual pain. It assures couples that their leading sexual complaint, desire differences, can usually be resolved to mutual satisfaction. It reassures parents that they can maintain their sex lives, provide effective sex education to their children, and survive today’s young-adult hook-up culture. It informs the elderly and those with chronic illnesses and disabilities that great sex is still possible. It reassures sexual minorities that they are psychologically normal and that LGBT sex, BDSM, and consensual non-monogamy are more popular than most people believe. Whether for procreation, relationship affirmation, or just for fun, lovemaking is normal, healthy, nurturing, often therapeutic, and usually emotionally satisfying. Whether you're looking to learn more, have a specific question, or just want to spice things up between the sheets, this is your ultimate guide to better enjoy one of life's top pleasures.
