Book FAMILY ALLOWANCES IN CANADA

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the social, political, constitutional, moral, and economic developments which led to the implementation of a system of family allowances in Canada in July of 1945. The book focuses on when the idea first became identified in Canada; family allowances in relation to other social security measures of the time; the constitutional, moral, and financial obstacles to their implementation; the affect of family allowance legislation upon political parties; the reaction of the provinces to this legislation; and the timing of the legislation. Family allowances went through three stages in Canada: recommendations, official and unofficial, and subsequent public discussion; parliamentary debate and legislative enactment in August 1944; and the establishment of the administrative machinery leading to their implementation in July 1945.

This usable, light hearted, real-world guide provides parents with the specific tools and step-by-step lessons needed to teach their child. The lessons provided are easy to teach and understand. The chapters are broken out into simple and digestible sections, made for busy parents who don’t have time for a finance novel. Most of all, the book focuses on how to incorporate teaching finance to your child through everyday real-world activities that you and your child are already doing. This book provides parents with the confidence to teach simple financial basics to children. With that confidence comes excitement and inspiration; by teaching your children about finance you will influence every step of their lives in a positive and meaningful way. Book Economic and Financial Aspects of Social Security

Download or read book Economic and Financial Aspects of Social Security written by J. Henry Richardson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-24 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1960, Economic and Financial Aspects of Social Security presents an important intervention by Professor J. Henry Richardson, an experienced authority on social security. Specially valuable is the chapter which considers what proportion of national income can be afforded for social security and also that on the alternatives of financing by accumulating large funds or by ‘pay-as-you-go’ methods. The author directs particular attention to age and retirement and urges that both social security systems and industrial organization should be so devised as to give encouragement and facilities for older people to continue working as long as they are fit. He also discusses remedies for poverty arising from sickness and large families with low incomes. The value of social security as a factor in economic security and in the redistribution of income, safeguards against inflation, and the problem of saving today for consumption in the future are also examined. This book is an essential read for scholars and researchers of political economy, labour economics and economics in general

Book From Rights to Needs

Download or read book From Rights to Needs written by Raymond B. Blake and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the family allowance phenomenon from the idea's debut in the House of Commons in 1929 to the program's demise as a universal program under the Mulroney government in 1992. Although successive federal governments remained committed to its underlying principle of universality, party politics, bureaucracy, federal-provincial wrangling, and the shifting priorities of citizens eroded the rights-based approach to social security and replaced it with one based on need. In tracing the evolution of one social security program within a national perspective, From Rights to Needs sheds new light on how Canada's welfare state and social policy has been transformed over the past half century.

Book Changing Relations of Welfare

Download or read book Changing Relations of Welfare written by Åsa Lundqvist and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changing Relations of Welfare is concerned with the complexities of family relations and practices in the recent past and how these have been imagined, addressed or elided in present policy making. It uses rich and varied sources to offer an innovative approach to the analysis of meanings afforded to the family in different policy, legal and welfare contexts in Sweden, Denmark and Britain. This book considers how debates about responsibility, obligation and rights have been gendered in social policy and welfare practice, whilst also focusing upon the intersections of family, gender, race and ethnicity and the different ways in which legislation and policy in northern Europe have been used to regulate not only immigration but also the lives of migrant families. Presenting a historically informed, comparative analysis of the shifting dynamics in the relationship between family and the state, this volume offers new pathways for exploring questions of change and continuity.
