Book Cyber Situational Awareness

    Book Details:
  • Author : Sushil Jajodia
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media

Download or read book Cyber Situational Awareness written by Sushil Jajodia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-03 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motivation for the Book This book seeks to establish the state of the art in the cyber situational awareness area and to set the course for future research. A multidisciplinary group of leading researchers from cyber security, cognitive science, and decision science areas elab orate on the fundamental challenges facing the research community and identify promising solution paths. Today, when a security incident occurs, the top three questions security admin istrators would ask are in essence: What has happened? Why did it happen? What should I do? Answers to the ?rst two questions form the core of Cyber Situational Awareness. Whether the last question can be satisfactorily answered is greatly de pendent upon the cyber situational awareness capability of an enterprise. A variety of computer and network security research topics (especially some sys tems security topics) belong to or touch the scope of Cyber Situational Awareness. However, the Cyber Situational Awareness capability of an enterprise is still very limited for several reasons: • Inaccurate and incomplete vulnerability analysis, intrusion detection, and foren sics. • Lack of capability to monitor certain microscopic system/attack behavior. • Limited capability to transform/fuse/distill information into cyber intelligence. • Limited capability to handle uncertainty. • Existing system designs are not very “friendly” to Cyber Situational Awareness.

Book Tactical Display for Soldiers

Download or read book Tactical Display for Soldiers written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-01-17 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the human factors issues associated with the development, testing, and implementation of helmet-mounted display technology in the 21st Century Land Warrior System. Because the framework of analysis is soldier performance with the system in the full range of environments and missions, the book discusses both the military context and the characteristics of the infantry soldiers who will use the system. The major issues covered include the positive and negative effects of such a display on the local and global situation awareness of the individual soldier, an analysis of the visual and psychomotor factors associated with each design feature, design considerations for auditory displays, and physical sources of stress and the implications of the display for affecting the soldier's workload. The book proposes an innovative approach to research and testing based on a three-stage strategy that begins in the laboratory, moves to controlled field studies, and culminates in operational testing.

Book Situational Awareness for Emergency Response

Download or read book Situational Awareness for Emergency Response written by Richard Gasaway and published by Fire Engineering Books. This book was released on 2013 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Situational awareness is more complex than simply noticing what is happening around you. An emergency responder must capture clues and cues in the emergency environment, make sense of the information, and predict what will happen next. In Situational Awareness for Emergency Response, Richard Gasaway establishes the foundation of decision making and the role of situational awareness in high-risk public safety environments. He explains his original research on command decisions and the barriers that challenge a commander's situational awareness, and offers lessons learned and best practices that can assist responders in preventing or overcoming the situational awareness barriers. Situational Awareness for Emergency Response is an ideal resource for incident commanders, line personnel who make high-stress decisions, and students learning to develop and maintain situational awareness.

Book Designing for Situation Awareness

Download or read book Designing for Situation Awareness written by Mica R. Endsley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-07-17 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enhancing Situation Awareness (SA) is a major design goal for projects in many fields, including aviation, ground transportation, air traffic control, nuclear power, and medicine, but little information exists in an integral format to support this goal. Designing for Situation Awareness helps designers understand how people acquire and interpret information in complex settings and recognize the factors that undermine this process. Designing to support operator SA reduces the incidence of human error, which has been found to occur largely due to failures in SA. Whereas many previous human factors efforts have focused on design at the perceptual and surface feature level, SA-oriented design focuses on the operator's information needs and cognitive processes as they juggle to integrate information from many sources and achieve multiple competing goals. Thus it addresses design from a system's perspective. By applying theoretical and empirical information on SA to the system design process, human factors practitioners can create designs to support SA across a wide variety of domains and design issues. This book serves as a helpful reference to that end.

Book Internet of Things and Analytics for Agriculture Volume 3

Download or read book Internet of Things and Analytics for Agriculture Volume 3 written by Prasant Kumar Pattnaik and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-10 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book discusses one of the major challenges in agriculture which is delivery of cultivate produce to the end consumers with best possible price and quality. Currently all over the world, it is found that around 50% of the farm produce never reaches the end consumer due to wastage and suboptimal prices. The authors present solutions to reduce the transport cost, predictability of prices on the past data analytics and the current market conditions, and number of middle hops and agents between the farmer and the end consumer using IoT-based solutions. Again, the demand by consumption of agricultural products could be predicted quantitatively; however, the variation of harvest and production by the change of farm's cultivated area, weather change, disease and insect damage, etc., could be difficult to be predicted, so that the supply and demand of agricultural products has not been controlled properly. To overcome, this edited book designed the IoT-based monitoring system to analyze crop environment and the method to improve the efficiency of decision making by analyzing harvest statistics. The book is also useful for academicians working in the areas of climate changes.

Book Spotting Danger Before It Spots Your KIDS

Spotting Danger Before It Spots Your KIDS is a book about presenting the concepts of situational awareness to children in a way that will keep them engaged and help them take an active role in their own personal security. This book will show you how to use fun, interactive games to build situational awareness skills such as: How children can identify and understand normal environmental behaviors. How children can spot abnormal behaviors within their given environment. How to give children a plan and a means of avoidance or escape should a dangerous situation present itself. Whether you're a parent, relative, or work in the childcare industry, the things you impart upon children will have a lasting impact on the way they live their lives. Nowhere is this more important than in the area of personal safety. As caregivers, we have a great responsibility for the security and wellbeing of our children, and to guide them along the path to independence. Your child's future success will depend on their ability to interact with their surroundings and make sound decisions based on what they see. That's the foundation of situational awareness. Author Gary Quesenberry has spent nearly two decades working as a federal air marshal. The training methods outlined in this book are based on the lessons learned not only as a counter-terror agent but also as a father of three.

Book Human Performance Situation Awareness and Automation

Download or read book Human Performance Situation Awareness and Automation written by Dennis A. Vincenzi and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2005-01-06 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2000, the Conference on Automation joined forces with a partner group on situation awareness (SA). The rising complexity of systems demands that one can be aware of a large range of environmental and task-based stimulation in order to match what is done with what has to be done. Thus, SA and automation-based interaction fall naturally together and this conference is the second embodiment of this union. Moving into the 21st century, further diversification of the applications of automation will continue--for example, the revolution in genetic technology. Given the broad nature of this form of human-machine interaction, it is vital to apply past lessons to map a future for the symbiotic relationship between humans and the artifacts they create. It is as part of this ongoing endeavor that the present volume is offered.
