Book Situation Analysis of Children and Women in the Central African Republic

Download or read book Situation Analysis of Children and Women in the Central African Republic written by UNICEF Républic centrafricaine and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This situation analysis shows that, since 2001, the structure underpinning the Government's efforts to meet its obligations is fragile. Notwithstanding this, the country remains committed to the fight against poverty, the promotion of human rights, and the pursuit of the MDGs. The analysis looks at the changing political context, emergencies, safety issues, and the realization of children's rights in situations of instability. The analysis has been disaggregated by gender, age, geographical location, and variations such as the level of education or professional status, to enable a better awareness of the significant differences that exist today in the realization of children's and women's rights. The result is a critical analysis that is based on new statistics, national policies, laws and trends, as well as recent research and studies. This Situation Analysis suggests interesting ways to stimulate thinking around the elaboration of a framework for national development policy and assistance.

Book Historical Dictionary of the Central African Republic

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of the Central African Republic written by Richard Bradshaw and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-05-27 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Central African Republic (CAR) came into existence on 1 December 1958 as a semi-autonomous member state of the Communauté (French Community), meaning that France still controlled its currency, defense, foreign affairs and national security. The history of the CAR can be interpreted in radically different ways. One the one hand the people of Central Africa have suffered enormously at the hands of slave traders, concessionary companies, French colonialists and African rulers, and their country remains largely ‘undeveloped.’ On the other most Central Africans have retained free use of land on which they grow crops and from which they extract numerous valuable resources. Their way of life is in the long run perhaps more sustainable than those of the ‘experts’ who come to assist them. The theme of essential continuity in the history of the CAR is as important, if not more important in the long run, than the themes of violent change, exploitation, and enduring dependence. Deep roots of continuity provide a surprising stability in the face of dramatic and often very painful change on the surface. The Historical Dictionary of the Central African Republic contains a chronology, an introduction, appendixes, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has over 1200 cross-referenced entries on important personalities, politics, economy, foreign relations, religion, and culture. This book is an excellent access point for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about the Central African Republic.

Book African Women and Children

Download or read book African Women and Children written by Apollo Rwomire and published by Praeger. This book was released on 2001-03-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although research on the roles and status of women and children in Africa has expanded over the past two decades, there is still a lack of comprehensive, reality-based and sophisticated analyses and documentation of the important issues and debates in this area. This collection of original and thought-provoking essays remedies these shortcomings by providing an eclectic, informed, and contextualized account of the nature and consequences of the oppression and abuse of women and children in Africa. In addition, it provides a critical review of a broad range of policies and interventions that are being pursued by statutory and non-governmental organizations to improve the quality of life of these two groups. Based on survey data, case studies, literature reviews, and firsthand accounts, this collection brings together some of the most significant new contributions to our understanding of how and why African women and children are oppressed by society. The contributors to this volume consist of a well-known team of scholars from the social sciences and humanities who are mostly citizens of several sub-Saharan countries. Together, their lively contributions cover a wide range of topics including a comparative critique of females and gender status, traditional institutions and violation of women's human rights, and unequal access to power. In addition, the contributors examine constraints upon women's participation in politics, the feminization of poverty, prostitution, patriarchy and marriage, the inadequacy of gender neutral policies in housing delivery systems, the impact of parental separation and divorce on children, child abuse, and child streetism.
