Download or read book Sittin at a Bus Stop Waitin on a Train written by Lynn Woodruff Gray and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-07-13 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grief is a long road without end, and time is not the healer, but what you do with that time that heals. The choices you make in your journey meet with many challenges, but there is always an open door for better days. You may take two steps forward and six steps back, but it is those two steps that will make the difference. Holding to the rope railings of a swinging bridge as you move forward, is a shaky endeavor, but not one that cant be accomplished if you keep moving. This is what Lynn realized when coming to terms with her emotions. It was like sittin at a bus stop, waitin on a train.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the tumultuous year of 2008--when gas prices reached $4 a gallon, Amtrak set ridership records, and a commuter train collided with a freight train in California--journalist James McCommons spent a year on America's trains, talking to the people who ride and work the rails throughout much of the Amtrak system. Organized around these rail journeys, Waiting on a Train is equal parts travel narrative, personal memoir, and investigative journalism. Readers meet the historians, railroad executives, transportation officials, politicians, government regulators, railroad lobbyists, and passenger-rail advocates who are rallying around a simple question: Why has the greatest railroad nation in the world turned its back on the very form of transportation that made modern life and mobility possible? Distrust of railroads in the nineteenth century, overregulation in the twentieth, and heavy government subsidies for airports and roads have left the country with a skeletal intercity passenger-rail system. Amtrak has endured for decades, and yet failed to prosper owing to a lack of political and financial support and an uneasy relationship with the big, remaining railroads. While riding the rails, McCommons explores how the country may move passenger rail forward in America--and what role government should play in creating and funding mass-transportation systems. Against the backdrop of the nation's stimulus program, he explores what it will take to build high-speed trains and transportation networks, and when the promise of rail will be realized in America.

Book excerpt: In the year 2015 everything was difficult for everyone in The United States of America. This story takes you through some scenes with a Grandfather and Grandson trying to survive in the world. There is also a lot more interesting characters in this book. I think one of my favorite parts of the book is the way the old Veterans step up to bat for their country once again. This book is both heartwarming and suspenseful. It is meant to honor all veterans that are serving, who have served, and will serve in the future for the United States of American Armed Forces. Could the state of America be because America has turned its back against God? However, because of the Americans wisdom and knowledge given to them by God, America will return to its greatness. This book is so interesting you will not want to put it down until you have finished reading it.

Book The Quest for Faithfulness

Download or read book The Quest for Faithfulness written by Helmut Hartmann and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-03-22 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An individual’s life story can provide insights into the character of a particular nation, the events of a specific time period, and the hopes and challenges faced by human beings as they strive to live a life that is consistent with the ideals that they espouse. This memoir of Helmut Hartmann’s first seventy years of life serves such a multifaceted purpose. Hartmann was born shortly before Adolf Hitler and the National Socialists gained power in Germany. His memories of his childhood include impressions of a society in turmoil and of the persistent suffering experienced by segments of German society, particularly the Jewish community. In his adult years, Hartmann served as a pastor of the Evangelical Church in the German Democratic Republic. His account of his diverse pastoral ministry; his travels, both within and outside the Soviet Bloc countries; his engagement with the Communist political leaders; and his diligent quest for justice highlights the religious, political, economic, and social challenges faced by East German citizens while they were ruled by a political regime that was ardently anti-religious and eagerly exercised its dictatorial authority. Hartmann’s memoir invites readers to consider what it means to be a follower of Christ and how their faith might inform their responses to the societal, political, and economic challenges of their particular time and place.

Book Vampire Husband and the American Justice

Download or read book Vampire Husband and the American Justice written by Paru Shiva and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 605 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about a woman who had come to America from Kashmir India. She had no knowledge about American culture or American Justice System. She was married in India and her husband brought her to America. In America her husband started abusing her. Being culturally abound, she kept taking abuse on daily basis and kept lying about her bruises and cuts to those who were asking her questions about her injuries. Abuse got worst to the extent that one day her husband tried to kill her. She gained her consciousness after couple of hours when her husband decided to dump her body in the park. Somehow in the morning she managed to escape with her two children. She went to a woman's shelter where she lived for six months. In the shelter they insisted that she had to go to the court to get restraining order for her safety. In that process, her children were taken by the court and were given to that abusive man from whom they had a narrow escape. She was forced to pay child support when she had not taken even a one cent from her home or from her husband after she left. Her two children were given to their father because she was going to school. Judge punished her and her two children for trying to establish their life. Her Children suffered the most because of the Justice System. I wrote this book for two reasons One reason is to tell my children especially my son that I am very sorry for taking my case to American Justice System because his father has kept him in fear. Even my son is adult now but his father is still treating my son like he was treating me and my son is kept in a lot of fear, stress and extreme tension. His father didn't let him complete his education. If he had encouraged my son to complete his education, then he wouldn't be able to control my son's life. That is tearing my heart every day. And second reason is that I want to help a Battered Woman and their children by telling them my story. I was a very private person but that didn't help me. Every battered woman of this country should know that when a man hit his wife is not love. It is a danger sign figure out on time about safety zones for self and for children. My story will guide them to be strong enough to help their children.

Download or read book Fourth Places written by Patricia Aelbrecht and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-26 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book challenges current views that public life is in decline and that contemporary urban design trends reliant on privatisation, control, events, and thematic designs are to be blamed. Drawing on detailed and extensive analysis of a case study that illustrates well such urban design trends, it shows that informal social life and interaction occur more than its necessary in new master planned environments and new designed public settings, whether public or private owned and/or managed. Furthermore, it reveals the existence of a new category of informal public social settings which it calls fourth places because of their close relationship to Oldenburg’s third places in terms of social and behavioural characteristics – radical departure from the routines of home and work, inclusivity and social comfort – but distinct in terms of activities, locations and spatial conditions – being characterised by spatial, temporal and managerial in-betweenness, i.e. indeterminacy in form, function and times, and a great sense of publicness. The acceptance of these findings problematises well-established urban design theories about master planning, expands existing social theories about the optimal conditions for public social life by empirically and spatially elaborating on them and redefines several spatial concepts for designing public space in relation to the specific dynamics of informal social interaction. More importantly, it brings optimism to urban design practice, offering new insights into designing more lively and inclusive public spaces.

Book Lifestyle integrated Functional Exercise LiFE program to prevent falls

Download or read book Lifestyle integrated Functional Exercise LiFE program to prevent falls written by Lindy Clemson and published by Sydney University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-12 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lifestyle-integrated Functional Exercise (LiFE) program is a way of reducing the risk of falls by integrating balance and strength activities into regular daily tasks. Unloading the dishwasher becomes an opportunity to improve strength. Brushing your teeth becomes an opportunity to improve balance. In the LiFE program, every daily task becomes an opportunity to improve balance and strength. This is a different approach to a traditional program where you would be required to complete a series of exercises a certain number of times a day for a set number of days each week. The participant's manual outlines the principles of the LiFE program and provides detailed descriptions of the strength and balance activities in the program. It shows how the activities can be incorporated into an everyday routine and includes several stories of successful participants in the program. The participant's manual should also be read by therapists and trainers so that they are familiar with the LiFE program in its entirety and can teach it effectively to others.
