Download or read book Jefferson Proving Ground Site Specific Technical Plan written by Chem-nuclear environmental services incgrand-junction co and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Site-Specific Technical Plan outlines the overall approach and defines the activities associated with the sampling and analysis of streams entering and exiting the U.S. Army Jefferson Proving Ground (JPG), Madison, Indiana, and sampling and analysis of 15 existing monitoring wells of the Gate 19 Landfill and it boundaries. This work is being performed in support of the U.S. Army Toxic and Hazardous Materials Agency (USATHAMA) under Contract No. DAAAl5-90-D-0007, Task Order 0002. The work tasks to be completed under this plan are tasks required to provide additional data needed to satisfy the requirements of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) as amended by SARA (1986), the National Contingency Plan (40 CFR Part 300), and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The work to be conducted is required to: Define extent and magnitude of possible environmental contamination originating on and exiting from JPG via the surface water pathway. Assess human health and environmental risk associated with this contamination. Determine the presence or absence of contaminants in groundwater related to the Gate 19 Landfill and DU (Depleted Uranium) areas. Confirm the results of previous investigations. Although there have been previous environmental investigations performed at JPG, little to no site characterization work has been conducted and, therefore, data concerning the presence and extent of contamination is lacking. This work plan provides a description of the work tasks necessary to provide information required to support an assessment of risk to human health and the environment as a result of potential off-site migration of contaminants via the surface water and groundwater pathways and to ensure JPG compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.

The original Work Plans covering the first 21 sites were developed and provided to the U.S. Army Environmental Center (USAEC) under Contract No. DAAA15-90-D-0007, Task Order 0002. The final Work Plans were submitted in September of 1992. The RI/FS is being performed in support of USAEC under Contract No. DAAA15-90-D-0007, Task Order 0005. A modification to Task Order 0005 was issued, calling for the investigation of an additional 29 sites. Thus, addenda to the final Work Plans were required. The sites to be characterized under these plans generally represent those sites located in the area south of the firing line requiring additional studies to satisfy the requirements of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA 1986); the National Contingency Plan (40 CFR Part 300); and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The RI/FS to be conducted is required to: * Define extent and magnitude of environmental contamination at JPG in the area south of the firing line, * Assess human health and environmental risk associated with contamination at the identified sites at JPG, * Determine needs for remedial action at JPG, and * Develop and evaluate remedial-action alternatives. This report is an Addendum to the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) Technical Plan Volume I.

Download or read book Enhanced Preliminary Assessment Report Jefferson Proving Ground Madison Indiana written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An enhanced preliminary assessment of Jefferson Proving Ground was performed to characterize the environmental impacts of actions occurring at the property, and to provide a basis for the development of remedial actions. Characterization was performed through examination of site activities, determination of the quantity of hazardous substances present, and evacuation of the potential pathways for contamination migration which would affect public health and the environment. Thirty-six solid waste management units and sixteen other areas requiring environmental evaluation were investigated. Recommendations for additional studies, sampling, and actions are contained in the summary. Actions include delineation of the actual limits of several waste disposal sites; installation of ground water monitoring wells; sampling of soils, surface and ground water; location of waste disposal areas; location of unexploded ordnance; and surveying of buildings for radon, asbestos, and lead paint.

Book Jefferson Proving Ground South of the Fining Line Final Remedial Investigation Feasibility Study Resource Management Plan

Download or read book Jefferson Proving Ground South of the Fining Line Final Remedial Investigation Feasibility Study Resource Management Plan written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This plan contains a description of the personnel and procedures for managing the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) at the U.S. Army Jefferson Proving Ground (WG) in Madison, Indiana. The RI/FS is being performed to support base closure initiated in April of 1989, when Congress mandated that JPG be closed and its mission realigned with Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona. As a result, the U.S. Army Environmental Center (USAEC) was given the responsibility of conducting the environmental investigation associated with the Base Closure Program. An enhanced Preliminary Assessment (PA) was completed in March 1990, and a follow-up Master Environmental Plan (MEP) was prepared in November 1990. Results of these initial evaluations indicated that additional studies of identified Solid Waste Management Units (SWMUs) and areas requiring environmental evaluation (AREEs) were needed to satisfy the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA 1986). This act requires that a RI/FS be conducted to: 1. Define the extent and magnitude of environmental contamination at JPG; 2 Assess the human health and environmental risk from contamination at JPG; 3. Determine the needs for remedial actions at JPG; and 4. Develop and evaluate the remedial-action alternatives.

Book Jefferson Proving Ground Site Specific Sampling Design Plan

Download or read book Jefferson Proving Ground Site Specific Sampling Design Plan written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this document is to outline field sampling and laboratory analyses that are to be conducted as part of the Jefferson Proving Ground Site-Specific Sampling and Analysis (SSSA) program. Jefferson Proving Ground (JPG) is a U.S. Army facility located in Madison, Indiana. The SSSA at JPG is being conducted in support of the U.S. Army Toxic and Hazardous Materials Agency (USATHAMA) under contract No. DAAAl5-9O-0007, Task Order 0002. The general objective of this work is to aid ongoing efforts to maintain and protect human health and environmental quality. The work described in this Sampling Design Plan will accomplish this objective through the collection of water and sediment samples from three specific "areas." These samples will then be analyzed to determine if past activities at Jefferson Proving Ground (JPG) have caused contaminants to enter the groundwater, stream water or stream sediments of JPG. Although JPG is not on the National Priorities List (NPL) and is, therefore, not strictly required to adhere to requirements of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), work conducted during the SSSA will be performed according to standard CERCLA protocols. All work conducted during the SSSA will also conform to all appropriate USATHAMA requirements.
