Book Sisters from the Start and My Pen Lay Still Not

Download or read book Sisters from the Start and My Pen Lay Still Not written by Sylvia Johnson-Cooper and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-11-24 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SISTERS FROM THE START is an extraordinary story of seven women, all with the names of gems - Pearl, Opal, Emerald, Topaz, Ruby, Sapphire, Peridot - each bearing terrible scars from childhood and previous marriages, which meet and instantaneously see something of themselves in each other. Rapidly developing a firm friendship, they are astounded to discover that they are in fact all sisters. As they discover more about themselves, they run million dollar businesses, and escalate an "I CARE. YOU CARE. WE CARE." campaign to feed, clothe, house, and provide medical care to the poorest, homeless, and unfortunate people of Houston. The awesome power of seven sisters is transversely credence. Do they have magic power like their father, Diamond Hilton? The author's writing style is fluid, engaging the reader in the narrative as it unfolds. The larger than life central characters are vividly depicted, evoking the reader's interest and empathy as they embark on a path to new and fulfilled lives. MY PEN LAY STILL NOT is an upheaval thirty years journey about Cheyenne Phoenix Coyote, the 'Red-haired Gal' of a family with three sets of dark- straight-hair triplets. She suffers many hardships from illness to lost loves to rape to sodomy to lost loves. These uncontrolled circumstances cause Cheyenne heartaches, promiscuity, impaired judgment, and to become manic-depressive. Follow her from three failed marriages to the same man to one-night stands to a pen pal that loves her unconditionally. You will laugh and cry with this fabulous lass as she burns herself to death and rises from the ashes like a Phoenix.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Words of Women brings together the writings-letters, diaries, journals, pamphlets, poems, plays, depositions, and newspaper articles-of women who lived between 1765 and 1799. The writings are organized chronologically around events, battles, and developments from before the Revolution, through its prosecution and aftermath. They reflect the thoughts, observations and experiences of women during those tumultuous times, women less well known to the reading public, including patriots and loyalists; the highborn and lowly; Native Americans and blacks, both free and enslaved; the involved and observers; the young and old; and those in between. Brief narrative passages provide historical context, and information about the women as they are introduced enable readers to appreciate their relevance and significance. In the Words of Women also focuses on topics such as health, everyday life, and travel. The selections not only document existing attitudes, practices, and customs but also changes wrought by the war and independence. This book allows the voices of these women to be heard and readers to make their own inferences and judgments based on women "speaking for themselves." Book excerpt: This collection of essays stems from the conference 'Nineteenth-Century Literature and Aesthetics', which was held at the University of Milan in 2006 and organised by the editors of this volume. The interface between word and image covered in these essays embraces the fields of literature, architecture, painting, photography, music and art criticism. The authors stress the role of aesthetics in a number of contexts ranging from the early 1830s to the fin de siècle and beyond, as far as the last influences of Victorian taste on the early years of the twentieth century. During the nineteenth century the ancient interaction between literature and aesthetics was challenged and criticised by Martineau, Rossetti, Ruskin, Pater, Wilde, Beardsley, Cameron and Carroll, among others: their awareness of the complexity of visual perception problematised the existing categories of realism, artistic conventions, discourse of description, translation and representation. The essays cover almost a century of debate between literature and aesthetics. They focus on the intersection of word and image by emphasising transgressions in art hierarchies, forms and languages, which restyle existing categories and project them into new aesthetic dimensions beyond the conventional idea of the sister arts.
