Neutrosophic set is a powerful general formal framework that has been recently proposed. However, neutrosophic set needs to be specified from a technical point of view. To this effect, we define the settheoretic operators on an instance of neutrosophic set, we call it single valued neutrosophic set (SVNS). We provide various properties of SVNS, which are connected to the operations and relations over SVNS.

In this paper, a new distance measure between two SVNSs is defined by the full consideration of truthmembership function, indeterminacy-membership function, and falsity-membership function for the forward and backward differences. Then the similarity measure, the entropy measure, and the index of distance are also presented. Finally, two illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed clustering method and multicriteria decision-making method based on the distance (similarity) measure between SVNSs.

Book excerpt: In this paper, a definition of quadripartitioned single valued bipolar neutrosophic set (QSVBNS) is introduced as a generalization of both quadripartitioned single valued neutrosophic sets (QSVNS) and bipolar neutrosophic sets (BNS). There is an inherent symmetry in the definition of QSVBNS. Some operations on them are defined and a set theoretic study is accomplished. Various similarity measures and distance measures are defined on QSVBNS. An algorithm relating to multi-criteria decision making problem is presented based on quadripartitioned bipolar weighted similarity measure. Finally, an example is shown to verify the flexibility of the given method and the advantage of considering QSVBNS in place of fuzzy sets and bipolar fuzzy sets.

In addition, it is shown that some existing similarity measures are equivalent. The comparative results of this study provide convenience for applying similarity measures of SVNSs to practical problems.

Book excerpt: In this paper, we first introduce single valued trapezoidal neutrosophic (SVTN) numbers with their properties. We then define some operations and distances of the SVTN-numbers. Based on these new operations, we also define some aggregation operators, including SVTN-ordered weighted geometric operator, SVTN-hybrid geometric operator, SVTN-ordered weighted arithmetic operator and SVTN-hybrid arithmetic operator. We then examine the properties of these SVTN-information aggregation operators. By using the SVTN-weighted geometric operator and SVTN-hybrid geometric operator, we also define a multi attribute group decision making method, called SVTN-group decision making method. We finally give an illustrative example and comparative analysis to verify the developed method and to demonstrate its practicality and effectiveness.
