Book excerpt: We are living in very decisive times where the human being is simply betting their lives in eternity in an alarming way. It is necessary that we pause to question ourselves, what is happening to us? If we go back to see our history, we see that we have only had around twenty-five to thirty years of peace. It seems to be that we have always been at war: at war between countries, at war with ethics, at war between social classes, at war with gangs, at war between families, and even at war with ourselves. There is a point where you find yourself arguing with your own self and hate is growing all around us and we ask ourselves what is going on with humanity? Who could have the answer to this question? Is there someone that will end the enmity? I believe all these questions deserve a reasonable answer so we can unmask the one who is to blame.

If He can’t sin against you, shouldn’t that make Him the most trustworthy being there is? Bestselling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God— we misunderstand His holiness. In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news. In these pages, we will see that God is not like us. He is different. He is holy. And that’s exactly what makes Him trustworthy. As it turns out, God being “holier than thou” is actually the best news in the world, and it’s the key to trusting Him.

Book Concerning Sin Righteousness and Judgment

Download or read book Concerning Sin Righteousness and Judgment written by Dr. Jaerock Lee and published by UrimBooks. This book was released on 2017-01-21 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, there are many people who go on with their lives not even knowing what sin is, what righteousness is, and what judgment is all about. Even those who go to church don’t have assurance of salvation, and they live secular lives—just like everyone else in the world. Furthermore, they do not lead Christian lives that are righteous according to God, but righteous according to what they think is righteous. So Concerning Sin, Righteousness, and Judgment is the first book of the Holiness and Power sermon series which deals with how we can lead a successful Christian life by receiving forgiveness for our sins and by accomplishing the righteousness of God in our lives.

Book The Evangelical Universalist

Download or read book The Evangelical Universalist written by Gregory MacDonald and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2012-11-15 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can an orthodox Christian, committed to the historic faith of the Church and the authority of the Bible, be a universalist? Is it possible to believe that salvation is found only by grace, through faith in Christ, and yet to maintain that in the end all people will be saved? Can one believe passionately in mission if one does not think that anyone will be lost forever? Could universalism be consistent with the teachings of the Bible? In The Evangelical Universalist the author argues that the answer is ‘yes!’ to all of these questions. Weaving together philosophical, theological, and biblical considerations, he seeks to show that being a committed universalist is consistent with the central teachings of the biblical texts and of historic Christian theology.

In Sin: Satan's Playground, author Kelly Bauserman discusses the reality of sin and how it affects all of our lives when we are not diligent in warding off this enemy. Using quotes and excerpts from the Bible, Sin presents a detailed explanation of Satan's temptations, including materialism, the lust for power and money, and fornication. It relays the importance of knowing this enemy and how to defeat him in our daily lives. It also describes the armor of God and gives personal examples of Bauserman's battle with his enemy, the devil. Through a vivid discussion of the power of the Lord Jesus over Satan, Sin invites Christians to accept Jesus into their lives, live a clean life, avoid temptation, and wear the armor of God in order to ward off the devil.

Book Patterns of Sin in the Hebrew Bible

Download or read book Patterns of Sin in the Hebrew Bible written by Joseph Lam and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sin, often defined as a violation of divine will, remains a crucial idea in contemporary moral and religious discourse. However, the apparent familiarity of the concept obscures its origins within the history of Western religious thought. Joseph Lam examines a watershed moment in the development of sin as an idea-namely, within the language and culture of ancient Israel-by examining the primary metaphors used for sin in the Hebrew Bible. Drawing from contemporary theoretical insights coming out of linguistics and philosophy of language, this book identifies four patterns of metaphor that pervade the biblical texts: sin as burden, sin as an account, sin as path or direction, and sin as stain or impurity. In exploring the permutations of these metaphors and their development within the biblical corpus, Patterns of Sin in the Hebrew Bible offers a compelling account of how a religious and theological concept emerges out of the everyday thought-world of ancient Israel, while breaking new ground in its approach to metaphor in ancient texts. Far from being a timeless, stable concept, sin becomes intelligible only when situated in the matrix of ancient Israelite culture. In other words, sin is not as simple as it might seem.

Book On Niebuhr

Download or read book On Niebuhr written by Langdon Gilkey and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "As the eminent theologian Langdon Gilkey demonstrates in this book. Niebuhr was able to provide such a persuasive answer because his social understanding was a theological understanding, one accomplished by viewing human being in relation to God as well as in its political and economic relations. This "Biblical" understanding of human nature, while acknowledging the often deep ambiguity and hypocrisy of the real historical world, also revealed a divine hand guiding that history. To Niebuhr, it is God's participation in history that gives it meaning and a promise of fulfillment, and presents believers with the possibility of a social realism that maintains its moral nerve rather than succumbing to cynicism or despair.".
