Book Computer Simulation of Street Traffic

Download or read book Computer Simulation of Street Traffic written by Martin C. Stark and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Technical Note describes a digital computer simulation of vehicular traffic on a section of city street. The study was made for the Bureau of Public Roads by the Data Processing System Division, National Bureau of Standards, over a period of three years, from July 1958 to June 1961. The narrative of the report is presented first, followed in order by the three summary Tables, the Figures, and the Appendices. The latter contain text which goes into greater detail and which, in many instances, also refers to the Figures.

Book A Digital Computer Simulation of a Rural Two lane Highway

Download or read book A Digital Computer Simulation of a Rural Two lane Highway written by D. Jay Frankenfield and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The traffic flow model developed in this study is a digital computer simulation utilizing the technique of periodic scanning to move the vehicles through a series of unit blocks. The model simulates traffic flow on a rural two-lane highway by assuming a straight and level road and incorporating sight distance restrictions and no-passing zones to simulate the effect of limited sight distance. By utilizing various "passing rules" to initiate the passing maneuver, three general topics were investigated. This study investigated the use of 1000 ADT as a criterion for yellow line striping no-passing by using the computer simulation to determine at what traffic volume a significant number of potential passing conflicts begin to occur. The "pass only when safe to pass" passing rule was used to determine the relationship between the passing maneuver and traffic volume when the effect of human error was removed. By using various values for gap acceptance in the computer model, it was possible to determine if gap acceptance is a significant factor in the overall flow characteristics of a two-lane highway. The results of the research indicated that: (l) 1000 ADT is a reasonable criterion for striping no-passing zones. (2) if vehicles attempt to pass only when it is safe to pass, the maximum number of passes per mile per hour occurs when traffic volumes reach the region of 800 vehicles per hour, and (3) gap acceptance is a significant factor in the overall flow characteristics of a two-lane highway"--Abstract, leaf ii.

Book Traffic Flow Dynamics

  • Author : Martin Treiber
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-10-11
  • ISBN : 3642324592
  • Pages : 505 pages

Download or read book Traffic Flow Dynamics written by Martin Treiber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-11 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides a comprehensive and instructive coverage of vehicular traffic flow dynamics and modeling. It makes this fascinating interdisciplinary topic, which to date was only documented in parts by specialized monographs, accessible to a broad readership. Numerous figures and problems with solutions help the reader to quickly understand and practice the presented concepts. This book is targeted at students of physics and traffic engineering and, more generally, also at students and professionals in computer science, mathematics, and interdisciplinary topics. It also offers material for project work in programming and simulation at college and university level. The main part, after presenting different categories of traffic data, is devoted to a mathematical description of the dynamics of traffic flow, covering macroscopic models which describe traffic in terms of density, as well as microscopic many-particle models in which each particle corresponds to a vehicle and its driver. Focus chapters on traffic instabilities and model calibration/validation present these topics in a novel and systematic way. Finally, the theoretical framework is shown at work in selected applications such as traffic-state and travel-time estimation, intelligent transportation systems, traffic operations management, and a detailed physics-based model for fuel consumption and emissions.

Book Digital simulation of traffic flow with application to railway train movements

Download or read book Digital simulation of traffic flow with application to railway train movements written by Kenneth Neilson Dodd and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes an initial investigation into the feasibility of simulating railway train movements in a general purpose digital computer, using techniques which were developed for studies of air traffic movements. In the cases considered, it has been found possible to represent train movements with a high degree of realism using a relatively simple model. A programme has been made to apply the method to the Dartford area. (Author).
