Book Resilient Modulus Testing for Pavement Components

Download or read book Resilient Modulus Testing for Pavement Components written by Mary Stroup-Gardiner and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 2003 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Resilient modulus indicates the stiffness of a soil under controlled confinement conditions and repeated loading. The test is intended to simulate the stress conditions that occur in the base and subgrade of a pavement system. Resilient modulus has been adopted by the U.S. federal highway administration as the primary performance parameter for pavement design. We thank those who prepared these papers, the reviewers who provided anonymous peer reviews, and those who participated in the symposium. We hope this STP encourages more work to improve the testing standard and the value of the Resilient Modulus test."

Book excerpt: This volume brings together scientific experts in different areas that contribute to the railway track and transportation engineering challenges, evaluate the state-of-the-art, identify the shortcomings and opportunities for research and promote the interaction with the industry. In particular, scientific topics that are addressed in this volume include railway ballasted track degradation/settlement problems and stabilization/reinforcement technologies, switches and crossings and related derailments causes, train-induced vibrations and mitigation measures, operations, management and performance of ground transportation, and traffic congestion and safety procedures. The volume is based on the best contributions to the 2nd GeoMEast International Congress and Exhibition on Sustainable Civil Infrastructures, Egypt 2018 – The official international congress of the Soil-Structure Interaction Group in Egypt (SSIGE).

Book Alternative Test Method for Resilient Modulus of Fine Grained Subgrades

Download or read book Alternative Test Method for Resilient Modulus of Fine Grained Subgrades written by EC. Drumm and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mechanistic design of flexible pavement systems requires the specification of mechanical properties for asphaltic concrete, base course, and soil subgrade. The stiffness of the soil subgrade is represented by the resilient modulus, Mr, which is determined in the laboratory from cyclic triaxial tests and is usually a function of the level of applied stress. For a typical pavement project where numerous soils are encountered, cyclic triaxial testing to determine Mr for each subgrade soil may be too complex and time consuming to be applicable on a production basis. Therefore, alternative methods for the determination or estimation of Mr are appropriate and are in fact suggested in the 1993 AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures (AASHTO Guide 1993).

Book A Simplified Mechanistic Rut Depth Prediction Procedure for Low volume Roads

Download or read book A Simplified Mechanistic Rut Depth Prediction Procedure for Low volume Roads written by Kashyapa A. S. Yapa and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, a procedure for predicting the number of passes of a wheel load that will cause a specified rut depth is developed, using information which includes the base layer thickness, the resilient moduli and general classification of the granular base course and the subgrade soils. The procedure is mechanistic but simple, and is based on the permanent deformation characteristics of various types of soils determined in the laboratory and also from test results published by other researchers. Resilient moduli of pavement material layers are obtained from the results of non destructive testing techniques. The validity of predictions of a number of these techniques is verified by comparing them with laboratory test results. Parametric runs were made using the Mechano lattice program to form a database of rut depths.

Book A Simple Method for Determining Modulus of Base and Subgrade Materials

Download or read book A Simple Method for Determining Modulus of Base and Subgrade Materials written by D. Yuan and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The resilient modulus test is commonly used to determine the modulus of base or subgrade materials as well as to establish their nonlinear behavior. Since the resilient modulus test is time consuming, the number of tests performed for a given project is limited. For day-to-day operation of highway agencies, a more rapid test method is needed. The stress wave (or seismic) method is being considered in Texas for this purpose. Seismic methods of testing can rapidly and nondestructively provide fundamentally correct moduli at known states of stress. Unlike the resilient modulus test, comparative field testing methods are available for seismic methods that can provide similar results under similar conditions. This paper describes the seismic test procedure and its relationship to the resilient modulus test results. Also discussed are the repeatability and reproducibility of the results as a function of operator experience, type of soil, and preparation method.
