Book Silver Recovery From Assorted Spent Sources Toxicology Of Silver Ions

Download or read book Silver Recovery From Assorted Spent Sources Toxicology Of Silver Ions written by Syed Sabir and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silver holds three world records; it has the lowest contact resistance, highest electrical conductivity and the best thermal conductivity of all metals. The element's physical strength, brilliance and malleability leads to its many uses from electronics to optical applications.A new 'silver rush' has occurred following the recent discovery that silver, when divided to form particles at the nano scale, can take on new properties. Meanwhile, there has been an increase in regulations against environmental pollution of silver ions toxicity, which have caused numerous diseases and disorders in the marine, microbial, invertebrate and vertebrate community (including humans). Both of which have led to a great interest in silver recovery for both environmental toxicity and an economic point of view.Comprised of ten chapters, this book draws attention to the most advance technologies in silver recovery and recycling from various spent sources, which will appeal to research scientists and metallurgists. The state of the art in recovery of silver from different sources by hydrometallurgical and bio-metallurgical processing and varieties of leaching, cementing, reducing agents, adsorbents, and bio-sorbents are highlighted in this book.

Book Leaching Kinetics of Valuable Metals

Download or read book Leaching Kinetics of Valuable Metals written by Stefano Ubaldini and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leaching is a primary extractive operation in hydrometallurgical processing, by which a metal of interest is transferred from naturally occurring minerals into an aqueous solution. In essence, it involves the selective dissolution of valuable minerals, where the ore, concentrate, or matte is brought into contact with an active chemical solution known as a leach solution. Currently, the hydrometallurgical processes have a great number of applications, not only in the mining sector—in particular, for the recovery of precious metals—but also in the environmental sector, for the recovery of toxic metals from wastes of various types, and their reuse as valuable metals, after purification. Therefore, there is an increasing need to develop novel solutions, to implement environmentally sustainable practices in the recovery of these valuable and precious metals, with particular reference to critical metals; those included in materials that are indispensable to modern life and for which an exponential increase in consumption is already a reality, or will be in a short-term perspective. For publication in this Special Issue, consideration has been given to articles that contribute to the optimization of the kinetic conditions of innovative hydrometallurgical processes—economic and of low environmental impact—applied to the recovery of valuable and critical metals.

Book Silver Hydrometallurgy

Book Silver Recovery from Spent IPA Using Solid Liquid Extraction

Download or read book Silver Recovery from Spent IPA Using Solid Liquid Extraction written by Khairul Afif Mohammad and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps the most challenging field in environmental engineering practice at the present time is the treatment and disposal of industrial and hazardous wastes. Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is an organic solvent that widely use as a cleaning agent in electronic industry, particularly for solder paste cleaning of defective electronic products. The spent IPA consist of solder paste can cause a serious problem in term of storage and pollution since it contains high concentration of heavy metals. There are few possible alternatives to treat this waste and one of the ways is to recover precious metal such as silver. In this study, a sample of waste IPA is taken from one electronic company in Pahang which consume almost 100kg of IPA every three weeks. This company use IPA as a cleaning agent. Solid-liquid extraction (leaching process) is used in this study to extract the silver because of its simplicity, environmental friendly, lower cost and provides high purity of product. In order to get better understanding in this study, few parameters such as type of leaching agent, concentration of leaching agent and retention time were investigated. Based on the result obtain, it can conclude that all the parameters affect silver leaching. Most of leaching agent that been used in this study show the potential on silver leaching because of the existence of free chloride ions produce by HCl and form silver chloro complexes with Ag+ ions. The percentage of silver leaching also high which is up to 90% due to the effect of leaching agent concentration. This study is believed to be the first attempt to extract silver from spent IPA.

Book Development and Application of Ion Exchange Silver Recovery System

Download or read book Development and Application of Ion Exchange Silver Recovery System written by Archie G. Buyers and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was conducted on the feasibility and extent of application of the ion exchange process as a method for silver recovery from spent photographic fixer solutions. The study demonstrates the technical feasibility of using ion exchange systems to recover silver from photographic fixer solutions for silver concentrations between 0.05 and 0.5 gm/l. However, ion exchange system operation at or above silver concentrations of 0.5 gm/l appears to negate any cost advantages over the electrolytic recovery systems. In addition, operation at concentrations under 0.05 gm/l requires about 10 times the resin needed at concentrations of 1.0 mg/l. A previously postulated resin-fouling mechanism was supported by experimental exchange data from a series of synthetic spent fixer solutions. Fouling during silver stripping may be caused by the formation of colloidal sulfur and silver sulfide particles with electrostatic charges neutralized by anionic exchange sites of the resin. A re-examination proved that an aqueous sodium acetate prewash of an anionic exchange column is a satisfactory method of preventing resin fouling by inorganic colloids.

Book Development and Evaluation of Ion Exchange Silver Recovery Pilot Plant

Download or read book Development and Evaluation of Ion Exchange Silver Recovery Pilot Plant written by Edward R. Moss and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An ion-exchange silver recovery pilot plant was designed, constructed, and operated to determine the feasibility of using ion-exchange resins to recover silver from spent photographic fixer solutions. Results indicate that ion-exchange silver recovery is technically feasible since the silver concentration in the fix tank can be maintained below 0.05 gm Ag(+)/l with complete recycle of the fixer solution, the ion-exchange resin can be regenerated, and the silver can be recovered from the regenerant solution by electrolysis. Cost evaluation of the ion-exchange silver recovery system indicates that this method is not the most economical for recovering silver from fixer solutions; electrolytic recycling appears to be more economical.

Book Bioelectrochemical Systems

Download or read book Bioelectrochemical Systems written by Korneel Rabaey and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the context of wastewater treatment, Bioelectrochemical Systems (BESs) have gained considerable interest in the past few years, and several BES processes are on the brink of application to this area. This book, written by a large number of world experts in the different sub-topics, describes the different aspects and processes relevant to their development. Bioelectrochemical Systems (BESs) use micro-organisms to catalyze an oxidation and/or reduction reaction at an anodic and cathodic electrode respectively. Briefly, at an anode oxidation of organic and inorganic electron donors can occur. Prime examples of such electron donors are waste organics and sulfides. At the cathode, an electron acceptor such as oxygen or nitrate can be reduced. The anode and the cathode are connected through an electrical circuit. If electrical power is harvested from this circuit, the system is called a Microbial Fuel Cell; if electrical power is invested, the system is called a Microbial Electrolysis Cell. The overall framework of bio-energy and bio-fuels is discussed. A number of chapters discuss the basics – microbiology, microbial ecology, electrochemistry, technology and materials development. The book continues by highlighting the plurality of processes based on BES technology already in existence, going from wastewater based reactors to sediment based bio-batteries. The integration of BESs into existing water or process lines is discussed. Finally, an outlook is provided of how BES will fit within the emerging biorefinery area.
