Book Ternary Silicon Fluorine Hydrogen Compounds

Download or read book Ternary Silicon Fluorine Hydrogen Compounds written by Reinhard Haubold and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume provides complete and up-to-date information on the few chemical species composed of silicon, fluorine, and noble gases and in the major part on the species composed of silicon, fluorine, and hydrogen. Among the numerous experimentally confirmed and theoretically predicted monosilicon Si-H-F species with Si coordination numbers 2, 3, and 4, the most prominent and best investigated molecules by far are Si H3F, Si H2F2, and Si H F3. Even more has been reported about aqueous solutions of hexafluorosilicic acid, "H2Si F6", a system which is not yet completely understood. Some of the isomers of partially fluorinated di-, tri-, and tetrasilanes are known to some extent, but information on the higher acyclic and cyclic polysilanes is increasingly sparce.

Book Binary Species of Silicon and Fluorine

Download or read book Binary Species of Silicon and Fluorine written by Friedrich Schröder and published by Springer. This book was released on 1992 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume is concerned exclusively with all the binary species formed between the elements silicon and fluorine such as SiF, SiF2, SiF3, SiF4, and Sif62-. Most of the volume, i.e. 144 pages, is devoted to the description of the well known physical and chemical properties of the SiF4 as well as to its preparation. This is followed in length by the report on SiF2 with its interesting chemistry, along with a section on the diatomic radical SiF. Species with fivefold and sixfold coordination of silicon are exemplified by SiF5- and by the well known SiF62-. Interestingly, the detailed models for describing the bonding situation in both ions are still a matter of discussion. While for Si2F6 most of the basic data are known, information on the chemical and physical properties of the higher members of the acylic perfluorosilanes, SinF2n+2, is scarce. All available information on the unstable cyclic perfluorosilanes of composition (SiF2)n and some even more exotic species is also included.

Book Tailor Made Silicon Oxygen Compounds

Download or read book Tailor Made Silicon Oxygen Compounds written by Robert Corriu and published by Springer. This book was released on 1996 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title "Tailor-Made Silicon-Oxygen Compounds - From Molecules to Materials" was the topic of a workshop at the Centre of Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) in Bielefeld, organized by the editors of the monograph. The field of SiO compounds is actually very exciting and rapidly developing. About 25 leading scientists from different areas (molecular chemistry, solid-state chemistry, material science, physical and theoretical chemistry) present newest results and scientific perspectives within the following subdisciplines: Fundamental SiO-systems; siloxenes; silicon monoxide; functionalized siloxanes; silicate assembly; siloxane assembly.

Book An Introduction Chemistry of the Silicones

Download or read book An Introduction Chemistry of the Silicones written by Eugene G. Rochow and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The organic compounds of silicon, which have been the subject of many scholarly researches during the past 80 years, at last show promise of emerging from the laboratory and finding a place in industry. An understanding of the behaviour of organosilicon materials is necessary to their intelligent use and, inasmuch as the chemistry of these substances ordinarily is not treated in our textbooks, it is possible that a compact yet comprehensive survey of our present knowledge in this field would be of service to chemists, engineers, and industrial designers. This volume has just such a purpose. The first few chapters review the silanes and their derivatives in some detail, in order to provide an understanding of the fundamental chemistry of the nonsilicate compounds of silicon. The later chapters emphasize the silicone polymers which have achieved commercial importance and deal with the methods for their preparation, their chemical and physical properties, and their possible uses. The processes available for large-scale production are treated separately, and a review of methods of analysis is included.

Book Biochemistry of Silicon and Related Problems

Download or read book Biochemistry of Silicon and Related Problems written by Gerd Bendz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silicon chemistry was initiated in 1823 by Berzelius who prepared elemental silicon. In many ways silicon was considered a typical opposite of carbon, although the two elements are closely related as to their electronic structure, both having four valence electrons. The properties of their compounds are, however, extreme ly different. Both form extended structures, but in different ways - carbon by covalent carbon-carbon bonds; silicon by polar silicon- -oxygen-silicon bonds. The complex carbon compounds are integral parts of all living matter, plants and animals. The corresponding silicon compounds build up a major part of dead matter, soils and minerals. As recently as twenty years ago the title of this Symposium, "BiOChemistry of Silicon", would have been considered as contradictio in adjecto. However, the development in the field has, during the past fifteen years, been overwhelming and has convinced us that silicon is a necessary element in the life processes, for animals as well as for plants. Interesting therapeutical uses have been suggested, but we have also become increasingly aware of serious occupational diseases - asbestosis and silicosis - and of possible cancerogenic effects. It is our hope that this volume will give some idea about various aspects of silicon compounds which were discussed during the Symposium.
