Nous n'avons pas voulu non plus mettre d'indication de prix, car cela est déjà fait dans l'Annuel des Arts que nous publions chaque année et comme cet ouvrage aura une durée de vie longue, cette information serait très vite devenue non significative. La plupart des signatures ont été reproduites à partir des catalogues de ventes des dix dernières années, ce qui représente une documentation exceptionnelle. Un grand nombre a été fourni également par des artistes vivants qui ont trouvé intéressant d'aider à ce travail de compilation commencé il y a cinq ans. Pour chaque artiste, nous avons signalé, quand l'information nous semblait fiable, les dates de naissance ou de mort. La reproduction des signatures a été faite de la manière la plus rigoureuse possible, cependant il ne faut considérer ces reproductions que comme un guide et ne pas leur donner plus d'importance qu'elles n'en ont. Dans la mesure du possible, nous avons reproduit plusieurs signatures pour un même artiste, si celle-ci a évolué dans le temps ou si elle n'est pas identique suivant les techniques ou le support utilisé. Le classement des monogrammes a été fait à partir de la lettre apparaissant en premier. Pour certains, non évidents, nous les avons classés sous plusieurs lettres.
