Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the results of the NC Department of Transportation research project Placement of Detection Loops on High Speed Approaches to Traffic Signals (HWY 2007-13). The goal of this project was to determine the best places to locate detectors on the approaches to high-speed signalized intersections and the best signal control strategy to employ in conjunction with those sensor placement ideas to minimize dilemma zone occurrences.

Book Traffic Signal Timing Manual

Download or read book Traffic Signal Timing Manual written by U.s. Department of Transportation and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-02-20 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report serves as a comprehensive guide to traffic signal timing and documents the tasks completed in association with its development. The focus of this document is on traffic signal control principles, practices, and procedures. It describes the relationship between traffic signal timing and transportation policy and addresses maintenance and operations of traffic signals. It represents a synthesis of traffic signal timing concepts and their application and focuses on the use of detection, related timing parameters, and resulting effects to users at the intersection. It discusses advanced topics briefly to raise awareness related to their use and application. The purpose of the Signal Timing Manual is to provide direction and guidance to managers, supervisors, and practitioners based on sound practice to proactively and comprehensively improve signal timing. The outcome of properly training staff and proactively operating and maintaining traffic signals is signal timing that reduces congestion and fuel consumption ultimately improving our quality of life and the air we breathe. This manual provides an easy-to-use concise, practical and modular guide on signal timing. The elements of signal timing from policy and funding considerations to timing plan development, assessment, and maintenance are covered in the manual. The manual is the culmination of research into practices across North America and serves as a reference for a range of practitioners, from those involved in the day to day management, operation and maintenance of traffic signals to those that plan, design, operate and maintain these systems.

Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 812: Signal Timing Manual - Second Edition, covers fundamentals and advanced concepts related to signal timing. The report addresses ways to develop a signal timing program based on the operating environment, users, user priorities by movement, and local operational objectives. Advanced concepts covered in the report include the systems engineering process, adaptive signal control, preferential vehicle treatments, and timing strategies for over-saturated conditions, special events, and inclement weather. An overview PowerPoint presentation accompanies the report." --

Book Field Manual for the Operation of Advance Warning of End of Green System AWEGS

Download or read book Field Manual for the Operation of Advance Warning of End of Green System AWEGS written by Srinivasa R. Sunkari and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this implementation project was to implement four Advance Warning of End of Green System (AWEGS) across Texas at intersections appropriate for the installation of AWEGS. After a survey across Texas, four sites were chosen in the Atlanta District, Pharr District, Odessa District, and San Antonio District. The AWEGS design plans were prepared for these four sites and submitted to the districts. These design plans were prepared for an intersection with high-speed approaches having the required dilemma zone detection design.

Book Traffic Signal Maintenance Handbook

Download or read book Traffic Signal Maintenance Handbook written by and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the prior edition, traffic signal technology has rapidly progressed as controllers, detection devices, communication, and monitoring systems have become more complex. Developments in traffic engineering concepts, transportation planning, signal design and standards, construction techniques, signal phase and timing (SPaT), regional coordination, asset management, work management, safety, as well as environmental and workplace laws and regulations have had a major effect on current practice. The Handbook is a straightforward reference for the practitioner that will support users in small to large departments or agencies with varying size budgets. The Handbook provides information required to set up and manage a traffic signal program compatible with available financial and technical resources as well as tools for measuring performance. This Handbook is intended primarily for an audience of signal technicians, supervisors, and maintenance operation managers who are vital to ensuring the daily reliable operation of the systems. The Handbook will also be useful for traffic engineers, traffic engineering technicians, and agency managers who seek a better understanding of the technical, logistical, organizational, and financial complexities of traffic signal maintenance.--publisher's website
