Download or read book Interdependent Wealth written by Steve Legler and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-14 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2014, as SHIFT your Family Business came out, Steve began hearing about Bowen Family System's Theory, and that it could be useful when working with business families and families of wealth. Curious, he searched for THE book to explain how and why this was true.Unable to find that book, he embarked instead on learning first hand, through Bowen Systems training programs. Five years later, he has written the book he sought in vain. His goal is to help enterprising family leaders and their successors develop a shared vision to sustain their wealth and legacy beyond the next generation. They say the best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else. In many ways teaching is a better forum for this material, because with a teacher-student relationship, there is give and take, so you can quickly adjust when you notice that you are not coming across the way you hoped. Writing a book is less forgiving, so the challenge is bigger, but I'm up for it.The other reason that now is the time for this book is that while I am by no means a BFST expert, I am at a point where I have learned quite a bit, yet I still remember what it's like to be brand new at this. I remember what it was like to read Murray Bowen's words and shake my head and wonder, and then think I understood, and then realize I still didn't get it. I remember what it was like to say "wow" after hearing faculty members explain things. I'll try to share those important stories when they are useful to understanding the material.I come from a business family and married into another business family, and I've learned about serving business families and had my calling here. I immersed myself in courses and training programs in coaching, mediation and facilitation, and then leapt into the deep end of Bowen Family Systems Theory training in 2014 for four years. I am not afraid to offer my opinion. This is not a book by a BFST expert, and it is not a "how to" book by any stretch of the imagination. If people read it and feel like they learned something useful, I will consider it a job well done.

Book excerpt: In a world where relationships make or break the deal for a lifetime, it is imperative to be able to have equations that are reliable, compatible and accessible. Luckily enough, sometimes it doesn't take too much effort to find the right set of people, perhaps because nature has its own way of providing them. From childhood to adulthood, siblings share their environment, principles and interests, and are naturally quite compatible. Gone are the days when siblings only gave the best 'what car to buy' advice or approved the guy you were dating. Today, brothers and sisters are travelling together, taking up hobbies together, and to add to the latest trend, building enterprises together. Varying from tech startups to trendy fashion wear, from utility applications to artsy expressions, siblings seem to be partnering up with each other to break away from conventional career choices. SuperSiblings encapsulates the journeys of twenty siblings who have broken away from conventions and supported each other to startup their dream ventures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historians and literary critics have long understood the crucial significance of the family to the nineteenth-century middle-class sensibility, but almost all critical analyses to date have concentrated on the "vertical" pole of the familial axis - the parent-child relationship - and very little on the "horizontal" pole - the sibling bond. This book looks beyond these analyses to show that at the core of nineteenth-century domestic ideology is the figure of the sister."--BOOK JACKET.
Download or read book Co Leading Sibling Teams in Family Firms written by Linda Lehner and published by V&R unipress. This book was released on 2021-10-11 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study empirically examines the dynamics of co-leading siblings in family firms. The findings were generated from qualitative interviews with 13 family firms of which nine are currently and four cases were once co-led by siblings. The research revealed that successfully and sustainably co-leading a family business as siblings can be considered as the king’s class of leadership as it includes managing the family layer with at least as much attention as the business layer itself. Besides diversifying in qualifications, competences, personalities and distribution tasks accordingly, processes such as the active and conscious decision-making for the business and at the same time for the co-leadership with other siblings are increasingly important to form a successful sibling team.

Download or read book The Dalai Lama s Special Envoy written by Lodi Gyaltsen Gyari and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2022-11-15 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lodi Gyaltsen Gyari spent decades drawing attention to the plight of the Tibetan people and striving for resolution of the Tibetan-Chinese conflict. He was the Dalai Lama’s Special Envoy and chief negotiator with the People’s Republic of China in the formal negotiations over the status of Tibet. In this revealing memoir, Gyari chronicles his lifetime of service to the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan cause. Gyari recounts his work conducting formal dialogue with the Chinese leadership from 2002 to 2012, as well as his efforts during the many years of quiet diplomacy preceding these historic negotiations. He details the fits and starts of the parties’ relationship, addressing successes as well as failures and highlighting misperceptions, missteps, and missed opportunities by both sides. Gyari grounds his recollections of his time as Special Envoy in his life experience, providing a powerful account of the personal side of Tibet’s struggles. He describes the Tibetan resistance to the Chinese invasion and the tumultuous early years of the Tibetan community in exile as well as his family’s history and spiritual lineage. A reincarnated Tibetan Buddhist lama forced to flee Tibet during the Chinese invasion, Gyari illuminates how his political efforts fulfilled his spiritual calling. Informed by his unparalleled experiences, Gyari offers realizable—but provocative—recommendations for restarting the Tibetan-Chinese dialogue to achieve a mutually beneficial resolution of the issue. For all readers interested in Tibet’s complex modern history, this book offers an incomparable look inside the decades-long effort to achieve the Dalai Lama’s vision of a reunited Tibet.
Download or read book Succeeding Generations written by Ivan Lansberg and published by Harvard Business Review Press. This book was released on 1999-07-26 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finding the right successor to a well-loved founder or president is often the most difficult task an organization can face—and the challenge can be even greater for family-run businesses. Succeeding Generations explores leadership transitions in family businesses, offering a clear-eyed assessment of the different options, from direct succession to building partnerships between siblings and cousins. Family-owned companies may dominate the worldwide business landscape, yet surprisingly few are successfully passed down from one generation to the next, and fewer still reach the third generation intact. Author Ivan Lansberg, an organizational psychologist who grew up in a family business, examines the reasons behind this high failure rate and reveals the factors that contribute to long-term success. He offers practical advice on how to mentor successors, how to set up a systematic selection process, and how to make the best use of the board of directors during times of transition. With a wealth of examples from companies in the United States, Europe, and Latin America, Succeeding Generations provides a thoughtful and comprehensive look at the sensitive dynamics of leadership succession in family businesses.
