Download or read book Shuffle Exchange Multistage Interconnection Network written by Nur Arzilawati Md. Yunus and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-05-15 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multistage Interconnection Networks offer an economical solution to communication and interconnection between system components. MINs are designed to provide an effective communication in switching. MINs consist of stages that can route the switching through the path. MINs with the Omega property considered as a practical connection to connect a large number of processors to establish multiprocessor system. In this types of network the major problem occur when the switches failed to route in the stage, if these situations occur the switching need to route to an alternative path to avoid from system failure. Shuffle Exchange Networks (SENs) have been widely considered as practical interconnection systems due to their size of it switching elements (SEs) and uncomplicated configuration. It can helps in fault tolerance and reduce the latency. This research emphasize on the SENs architecture to derived estimation point of reliability value specifically for reliability performance in the interconnection networks.

Book On the Genus of the Shuffle Exchange Network and the Simulation of the Crossed Cube by the Shuffle Exchange Network

Download or read book On the Genus of the Shuffle Exchange Network and the Simulation of the Crossed Cube by the Shuffle Exchange Network written by Divya Alavarthi and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The structure of the interconnection network can be the deciding and limiting factor in performance and cost of parallel computers. Hypercube is one of the most popular interconnection networks. The symmetry, logarithmic diameter, regularity, fault-tolerance, high connectivity, simple routing, and reconfigurability of the hypercube make it a very attractive network for parallel computers. Extensive research has been done to study and improve its properties. Many interconnection networks like crossed cube, cube connected cycles, shuffle exchange graph etc. were proposed to improve one or more properties of hypercube. For example crossed cube, proposed to improve on the diameter of the hypercube and the diameter of the crossed cube is approximately half that of the hypercube [Special characters omitted.] . The hypercube and crossed cube both possesses a major drawback which is their variable degree i.e., degree of the node increases as the network grows in size. As an alternative to the hypercube, the shuffle exchange network is recently receiving much attention. The shuffle exchange network not only provides a logarithmic diameter, fault-tolerance, and simple routing but it also possess a constant node degree '3' which is independent of the network size. The shuffle-exchange graph is a Cayley graph and is especially attractive for parallel processing. The attractive properties of the crossed cube and the shuffle exchange graph have drawn my attention towards this thesis. In this thesis, we investigate the genus of the shuffle exchange graph and prove that the crossed cube of dimension 'n' can be simulated by the shuffle exchange graph with dilation '4'. In order to achieve constant dilation, we only consider normal algorithms.

Book Comparative Analysis of Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Comparative Analysis of Multistage Interconnection Networks written by James T. Blake and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis provides a comparative analysis of various interconnection networks and multiprocessor systems. The Shuffle-Exchange multistage interconnection Network (SEN) and its variants are evaluated and compared. Comparison is based on reliability, composite measures of performance and reliability, and cost. Closed-form expressions for the computation of the available bandwidth for multiprocessor systems with a capability of graceful degradation are developed. The time dependent reliability of the SEN and three fault-tolerant schemes aimed at improving system reliability are examined. These schemes are the redundant network, the extra stage network, and the network augmented with intrastage links. Exact closed-form expressions for the time-dependent reliability of the N x N Shuffle-Exchange Network (SEN), the 8 x 8 and 16 x 16 SEN with an additional stage (SEN+), and the 4 X 4 and 8 X 8 Augmented SEN (ASEN) are derived. Upper and lower bounds useful for the analysis of larger SEN+ and ASEN networks are derived. Performability analysis of a complete multiprocessor system is conducted.

Book Design and Analysis of Interconnection Networks for Partitionable Parallel Processing Systems

Download or read book Design and Analysis of Interconnection Networks for Partitionable Parallel Processing Systems written by Susan Diane Smith and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A single instruction stream - multiple data stream (SIMD) computer performs one algorithm (single instruction stream) on vectors of data of a control unit (CU), processing elements (PEs), and an interconnection network. The CU broadcasts instructions to the N Pes (where N is a power of two). The interconnection network is the mechanism that allows PEs to pass data among themselves. Four types of interconnection networks are discussed in this work: the Shuffle-Exchange network, the Cube network, the ILLIAC network, and the Plus-Minus 2 (PM2I) network. Each type has been discussed in the literature and used in an existing or proposed machine design. For each of these four network types, different hardware structures are considered. A recirculating network consists of one stage of switches that is reused until the data reach their final destinations. A combinational logic multistage network consists of several stages of switches and, usually, data is transferred in one pass through the network. In pipelined multistage networks, which are introduced, registers are inserted after each stage of a combinational logic multistage network. The data are divided into segments, and these segments are passed in a parallel-pipelined manner. Hardware implementations for recirculating, combinational logic multistage, and pipelined multistage networks are presented and analyzed.
