Book Intersectionality and Creative Business Education

Download or read book Intersectionality and Creative Business Education written by Bhabani Shankar Nayak and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-29 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creative Business Education is emerging rapidly to address the needs of the creative industries including digital media, journalism, advertisement, music, marketing, films, fashion and sports business etc. Inclusive educational praxis, decolonial knowledge traditions and diverse curriculums are central to egalitarian economic development and human empowerment. As such, this edited volume explores how creative business education specifically can help to build a more diverse and inclusive environment for an increasingly diverse body of students and faculty. It discusses how students can be encouraged to succeed and excel, reflecting on the need for academic pedagogies to embrace greater inclusivity for diverse cultures. Advancing different theoretical trends within intersectionality and the limits of its praxis, contributors deal with different forms of inequalities based on class, gender, race, religion and belief, sexual orientation, and disabilities in teaching and learning. It is important to articulate and outline the critical lineages of intersectionality within creative business education and its progressive potentials for pedagogical transformation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Steely Dan was a somewhat unusual band that still inspires unusually strong devotion in its fans. Formed in the late '60s in New York, they released seven albums between 1971 and 1981, two of which were nominated for a Grammy. Part of what's unusual about them is that each of those albums was made by a different group of musicians--founding members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen had no issues swapping players from record to record in order to get the sound they wanted. The band stopped touring in 1974, so the recording studio was the only place they needed their collaborators. Those recordings are legendary, especially among vinyl enthusiasts, for their exquisite production. The precision was necessary, in part, because Steely Dan played with form more than most bands, mixing elements of other genres--especially jazz--with pop and rock. And the lyrics are also distinctive. As the authors put it in their proposal, Steely Dan's songs are "exercises in fictional world-building. Each song features its own cast of rogues and heroes and creeps and schmucks, lovers and dreamers and cold-blooded operators, all tempest-tossed by the ill winds of the '70s." This book consists of sixty-some essays, each devoted to one character, and each essay is accompanied by a painting of the particular character that serves as a jumping-off point for the piece, with additional spot illustrations scattered throughout"--

Book The Cinema of Paul Thomas Anderson

Download or read book The Cinema of Paul Thomas Anderson written by Ethan Warren and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2023-04-25 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul Thomas Anderson’s evolution from a brash, self-anointed “Indiewood” auteur to one of his generation’s most distinctive voices has been one of the most remarkable career trajectories in recent film history. From early efforts to emulate his cinematic heroes to his increasingly singular late films, Anderson has created a body of work that balances the familiar and the strange, history and myth: viewers feel perpetually off balance, unsure of whether to expect a pitch-black joke or a moment of piercing emotional resonance. This book provides the most complete account of Anderson’s career to date, encompassing his varied side projects and unproduced material; his personal and professional relationships with directors such as Jonathan Demme, Robert Altman, and Robert Downey Sr.; and his work as a director of music videos for Fiona Apple, Joanna Newsom, and Haim. Ethan Warren explores Anderson’s recurring thematic preoccupations—the fraught dynamics of gender and religious faith, biological and found families, and his native San Fernando Valley—as well as his screenwriting methods and his relationship to his influences. Warren argues that Anderson’s films conjure up an alternate American history that exaggerates and elides verifiable facts in search of a heightened truth marked by a deeper level of emotional hyperrealism. This book is at once an unconventional primer on Anderson’s films and a provocative reframing of what makes his work so essential.

Julie also candidly shares painful and heartfelt stories about her rape at age twelve, her experiences with drinking through the ten years that covered her twenties, and her journey through recovery and divorceas well as two miscarriages, a house-fire, three hurricanes, and her fathers death. Although each experience was devastating in its own right, as a whole they have given her a down-to-earth perspective on love, faith, and relationships. She hopes to inspire others to reevaluate their own lives and relationships with an open mind and heart. Her light-hearted, humorous perspective on a variety of subjects from adolescence to alcoholism will keep you laughing and crying at the same time.
