Book Signature Shoes

Download or read book Signature Shoes written by Ryan Trembath and published by Eckhartz Press. This book was released on 2020-11-28 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just about everyone is familiar with the Nike Air Jordan shoe, but just when did the practice of attaching an athlete’s name to a shoe become common practice? This text takes you from the beginning of the signature shoe industry, and through the 1980s when the popularity of signature shoes accelerated. At the start of the ‘90s, just about every footwear company was producing a signature shoe, and looking for the next charismatic spokesperson, when they saw the dollars Nike was making with the Jordans. Eventually, signature shoes entered all facets of popular culture and were taken for granted by the public. Before long, it wasn’t just the most well-known and marketable athletes getting their own shoe. Athletes in Major League Baseball, the Women’s National Basketball Association, National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, Formula One, the Professional Golfers’ Association, the National Football League, musicians, and even the National Hockey League had their own footwear to go along with the mainstays of the NBA and professional tennis circuits.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the world’s largest sellers of footwear, the Bata Company of Zlín, Moravia has a remarkable history that touches on crucial aspects of what made the world modern. In the twilight of the Habsburg Empire, the company Americanized its production model while also trying to Americanize its workforce. It promised a technocratic form of governance in the chaos of postwar Czechoslovakia, and during the Roaring Twenties, it became synonymous with rationalization across Europe and thus a flashpoint for a continent-wide debate. While other companies contracted in response to the Great Depression, Bata did the opposite, becoming the first shoe company to unlock the potential of globalization. As Bata expanded worldwide, it became an example of corporate national indifference, where company personnel were trained to be able to slip into and out of national identifications with ease. Such indifference, however, was seriously challenged by the geopolitical crisis of the 1930s, and by the cusp of the Second World War, Bata management had turned nationalist, even fascist. In the Kingdom of Shoes unravels the way the Bata project swept away tradition and enmeshed the lives of thousands of people around the world in the industrial production of shoes. Using a rich array of archival materials from two continents, the book answers how Bata’s rise to the world’s largest producer of shoes challenged the nation-state, democracy, and Americanization.

Book I Want Those Shoes

Download or read book I Want Those Shoes written by Paola Jacobbi and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2007-09-04 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Shoes possess magical properties," writes Italian journalist and shoe fanatic Paola Jacobbi. The allure of shoes is so powerful that they have become her fashion obsession, one she shares with millions of women, from Imelda Marcos to Sarah Jessica Parker to Joan Crawford. Here Jacobbi indulges that obsession by embarking on a witty and highly opinionated journey through the styles and cultural significance of women's footwear and our attachment to it. Jacobbi pontificates (sandals are the bikini of footwear); psychoanalyzes (the relationship between shoes and sex); has fiery beliefs (ankle boots are quite simply a no-no); and speculates (there's a little Imelda in all of us). She also offers plenty of sage advice: how to choose the right heel for your physique, how to keep shoes lasting long, why to avoid mules at all costs, and how to judge a man by his footwear. Charming, sassy, and irresistible, I Want Those Shoes! will be a perfect fit for every woman who has ever coveted, rearranged her closet to accommodate, or maxed out her credit card for one more absolutely-gotta-have-it pair of shoes.
