Download or read book Shock Fitting written by Marcello Onofri and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the revolutionary capabilities of new shock fitting algorithms; a great improvement in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for high-speed numerical simulations. Shock fitting methods provide a solution to the current difficulties and inaccuracies in shock-capturing approaches. This work traces the evolution of shock-fitting methods, from the pioneering methods based on the structured grids (boundary and floating shock-fitting) to recent developments on unstructured grids, illustrating algorithmic details, significant applications and potential developments. Also, to celebrate the centenary birth of the father of shock-fitting techniques, the book also includes a tribute to Gino Moretti, as well as his unpublished manuscript. This book will appeal to professionals, researchers, and graduate students in the field of CFD.

Book Spectral Methods in Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Spectral Methods in Fluid Dynamics written by Claudio Canuto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about spectral methods for partial differential equations: when to use them, how to implement them, and what can be learned from their of spectral methods has evolved rigorous theory. The computational side vigorously since the early 1970s, especially in computationally intensive of the more spectacular applications are applications in fluid dynamics. Some of the power of these discussed here, first in general terms as examples of the methods have been methods and later in great detail after the specifics covered. This book pays special attention to those algorithmic details which are essential to successful implementation of spectral methods. The focus is on algorithms for fluid dynamical problems in transition, turbulence, and aero dynamics. This book does not address specific applications in meteorology, partly because of the lack of experience of the authors in this field and partly because of the coverage provided by Haltiner and Williams (1980). The success of spectral methods in practical computations has led to an increasing interest in their theoretical aspects, especially since the mid-1970s. Although the theory does not yet cover the complete spectrum of applications, the analytical techniques which have been developed in recent years have facilitated the examination of an increasing number of problems of practical interest. In this book we present a unified theory of the mathematical analysis of spectral methods and apply it to many of the algorithms in current use.

Book Interaction of a Shock with a Longitudinal Vortex

Download or read book Interaction of a Shock with a Longitudinal Vortex written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-05 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper we study the shock/longitudinal vortex interaction problem in axisymmetric geometry. Linearized analysis for small vortex strength is performed, and compared with results from a high order axisymmetric shock-fitted Euler solution obtained for this purpose. It is confirmed that for weak vortices, predictions from linear theory agree well with results from nonlinear numerical simulations at the shock location. To handle very strong longitudinal vortices, which may ultimately break the shock, we use an axisymmetric high order essentially non-oscillatory (ENO) shock capturing scheme. Comparison of shock-captured and shock-fitted results are performed in their regions of common validity. We also study the vortex breakdown as a function of Mach number ranging from 1.3 to 10, thus extending the range of existing results. For vortex strengths above a critical value. a triple point forms on the shock and a secondary shock forms to provide the necessary deceleration so that the fluid velocity can adjust to downstream conditions at the shock. Book Spectral Methods

    Book Details:
  • Author : Claudio Canuto
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2007-06-30
  • ISBN : 3540307281
  • Pages : 616 pages

Download or read book Spectral Methods written by Claudio Canuto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-06-30 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following up the seminal Spectral Methods in Fluid Dynamics, Spectral Methods: Evolution to Complex Geometries and Applications to Fluid Dynamics contains an extensive survey of the essential algorithmic and theoretical aspects of spectral methods for complex geometries. These types of spectral methods were only just emerging at the time the earlier book was published. The discussion of spectral algorithms for linear and nonlinear fluid dynamics stability analyses is greatly expanded. The chapter on spectral algorithms for incompressible flow focuses on algorithms that have proven most useful in practice, has much greater coverage of algorithms for two or more non-periodic directions, and shows how to treat outflow boundaries. Material on spectral methods for compressible flow emphasizes boundary conditions for hyperbolic systems, algorithms for simulation of homogeneous turbulence, and improved methods for shock fitting. This book is a companion to Spectral Methods: Fundamentals in Single Domains.

Book Numerical Solutions of the Euler Equations for Steady Flow Problems

This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade has seen a dramatic increase of our abilities to solve numerically the governing equations of fluid mechanics. In design aerodynamics the classical potential-flow methods have been complemented by higher modelling-level methods. Euler solvers, and for special purposes, already Navier-Stokes solvers are in use. The authors of this book have been working on the solution of the Euler equations for quite some time. While the first two of us have worked mainly on algorithmic problems, the third has been concerned off and on with modelling and application problems of Euler methods. When we started to write this book we decided to put our own work at the center of it. This was done because we thought, and we leave this to the reader to decide, that our work has attained over the years enough substance in order to justify a book. The problem which we soon faced, was that the field still is moving at a fast pace, for instance because hyper sonic computation problems became more and more important.
