  • Author : Craig Hoskins
  • Publisher : Gate Way Publishers
  • Release : 2005-05
  • ISBN : 9780975264584
  • Pages : 260 pages

Download or read book Twelve Tingly Tales written by Craig Hoskins and published by Gate Way Publishers. This book was released on 2005-05 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Twelve Tingly Tales" is a mixture of fact and fiction. "Handyman," "John," "The Scientific Man," "Snake," "Toy Boy," and "Tough Guy," are complete works of the author's imagination. "Noises," however, is a story from his youth - one that was related to Hoskins by his parents when he was in his mid-twenties. Craig's father told him that his older brother and he slept through the ghostly brawl, and that he didn't get really scared until their mother turned on their bedroom light and there was no one in our kitchen. Craig's aunt related stories from her childhood upon which he based "Fearstruck," and "Katie." Essentially, they are as she told them and did really happen. Likewise, "Jason," and "Toto," were based upon truth. Hoskins' family did have two wonderful Labs with those names, and Jason did die suddenly after turning so sweet and attentive his last week. Toto did chase away a dog who threatened his Kelly. "Weeping Lady" is based upon a Mexican ghost story. Craig embellished the story with his American characters, but the essence of the story is the same. Read and enjoy... and think. Many times the truth is much stranger than fiction and much harder to believe.

Book Higher Judo

  • Author : Moshe Feldenkrais
  • Publisher : Blue Snake Books

  • ISBN : 155643927X
  • Pages : 290 pages

Download or read book Higher Judo written by Moshe Feldenkrais and published by Blue Snake Books. This book was released on 2010-12-28 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais is best known for pioneering the somatic therapy that bears his name. Less well known is that he was also one of the earliest European practitioners of the martial art of judo and wrote a number of influential texts on the subject. Primary among these is Higher Judo, first published in 1952 and now reprinted with a new foreword that offers useful context and elaborates on Feldenkrais’ comprehensive—and still timely—approach to the martial art and to the body. Judo was a natural choice for Feldenkrais’s fascination with body/mind exploration and how to promote optimal functioning through awareness. In Higher Judo, he presents judo as the art of using all parts of the body to promote general health, and as part of the “basic culture of the body.” He reveals judo’s potential for creating a sense of rhythm of movement and improving mental and physical coordination. Higher Judo covers specific movements and positions—the astride position, the six o’clock approach, falling techniques—in both the text and the clear line drawings. Even more importantly, it shows how such groundwork can help practitioners develop their mental and physical awareness to their full potential.

Book excerpt: Ephemeral images from a troubling dream inspire Samuel Border to meet a girl who proceeds to capture his heart. The transience of their encounter in no way reflects the indelible imprint haunting his mind, but events intervene to postpone their union. A compulsion to locate the woman of his dreams results in a tragic accident to his younger brother, causing Samuel to abandon the search. Only happenstance many years later alters that decision. Were life simply about the present and not unduly influenced by an evil family legacy, Samuel would not be drawn inexorably toward his destiny. It will require all his instincts and courage to bring the woman he loves beyond measure home safely.

Book The Lion Tracker s Guide To Life

Download or read book The Lion Tracker s Guide To Life written by Boyd Varty and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2019-10-22 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Somewhere deep inside, you know what your gift, purpose, and mission are. Boyd Varty, a lion tracker and life coach, reveals how the wisdom from the ancient art of tracking can teach you how to recognize these essential ingredients in a meaningful life. Know how to navigate, don’t worry about the destination, and stay alert. These are just a few of the strategies that contribute to both successful lion tracking and a life of fulfillment. When we join Boyd Varty and his two friends tracking lions, we are immersed in the South African bush, and, although we learn some of the skills required for actual tracking, the takeaways are the strategies that can be applied to our everyday lives. Trackers learn how to use all of their senses to read the environment and enter into a state of “greater aliveness.” When we learn to find and follow our inner tracks, we learn to see what is deeply important to us. In the same way the trip in the classic Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was a vehicle to examine how to live out our values, the story of this one-day adventure—with danger and suspense along the way—uses the ancient art of tracking to convey profound lessons on how to live a purposeful, meaningful life of greater harmony.

Book Angry White Pyjamas

Download or read book Angry White Pyjamas written by Robert Twigger and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adrift in Tokyo, translating obscene rap lyrics for giggling Japanese high school girls,, "thirtynothing" Robert Twigger comes to a revelation about himself: He has never been fit nor brave. Guided by his roommates, Fat Frank and Chris, he sets out to cleanse his body and mind. Not knowing his fist from his elbow, the author is drawn into the world of Japanese martial arts, joining the Tokyo Riot Police on their yearlong, brutally demanding course of budo training, where any ascetic motivation soon comes up against bloodstained "white pyjamas" and fractured collarbones. In Angry White Pyjamas, Twigger blends, the ancient with the modern--the ultratraditionalism, ritual, and violence of the dojo (training academy) with the shopping malls, nightclubs, and scenes of everyday Tokyo life in the 1990s--to provide a brilliant, bizarre glimpse of life in contemporary Japan.
