Book SHIPMO7

Download or read book SHIPMO7 written by Kevin A. McTaggart and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual describes a new version of the ship motion program SHIPMO, called SHIPMO7. The new version introduces several improvements over previous versions. A new boundary element method for computing sectional hydrodynamic coefficients eliminates problems with irregular frequencies. The revised program computes sea loads, including appendage forces and viscous forces, with special attention to the consistent treatment of forces acting on the ship during both motion and load predictions. The program also has revised input and output format to improve consistency and clarity. SHIPMO7 also gives derived responses, including local accelerations, slamming, deck wetness, motion-induced interruptions, and added resistance in waves. Information is included on running the program, and sample inputs and outputs are appended.

Book An Improved Strip Theory Program for Ship Motions and Sea Loads in Waves

Download or read book An Improved Strip Theory Program for Ship Motions and Sea Loads in Waves written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes enhancements to the strip theory program SHIPMO, with the goal of producing a robust code for predicting both ship motions and sea loads in waves. A new boundary element method was introduced which eliminates irregular frequencies of sectional hydrodynamic coefficients. Problems with predictions at low encounter frequencies are circumvented with a new extrapolation scheme. These improvements remove two sources of potentially large errors for predicted motions and sea loads. A new added resistance capability uses two different near-field methods for short and long wavelength regimes. Motion and sea load predictions include appendage and viscous forces for the lateral plane. Validation results for a warship are presented showing degree of agreement of predicted motions and sea loads with experiments.

Book Numerical Methods for Seakeeping Problems

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Seakeeping Problems written by Bettar Ould el Moctar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-19 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes currently applied and newly developed advanced numerical methods for wave-induced ship motions and loads. Besides well-established computational methods based on strip theory, panel methods and finite volume methods for unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (URANS), recent advances like a fully nonlinear Rankine panel method, URANS calculations including elastic hull deformations, and an improved method to predict added resistance in waves are explained in detail. Furthermore, statistical methods to assess extreme motions and loads are described both for linear and nonlinear responses in a stationary seaway as well as during long-term ship operations. Results of motions and loads, computed using the various methods, are compared with each other and with results of model experiments. Introductory chapters on fluid dynamics, motions of rigid and elastic ship hulls, numerical methods to compute fluid flows associated with wind waves, and the development and simulation of seaways complement the volume. The book will be of interest to post-graduate students, PhD candidates, as well as engineers in the field of naval architecture, ocean, and marine engineering.

Book Time domain Simulation of Nonlinear Ship Motions and Wave Loads

Download or read book Time domain Simulation of Nonlinear Ship Motions and Wave Loads written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the assessment of the ability of a ship structure to withstand specified sea environments with an acceptable risk of failure, accurately predicted loads are vital. Of paramount importance are extreme loads on the hull structure, which usually occur when a ship undergoes large heaving & pitching motions in rough seas, sometimes accompanied by impacts between the bow & waves. This paper describes the application of strip theory to time domain calculations of non-linear ship motions and hull-girder loads in head seas. In this approach, the differential equations of ship motion are solved numerically by calculating hydrodynamic forces & coefficients at each time step by strip theory, taking into account nonlinearities relating to large relative motion between waves & the ship hull. The results indicate the usefulness of this approach compared to the conventional linear frequency-domain approach.

Book A Rational Strip Theory of Ship Motions

Download or read book A Rational Strip Theory of Ship Motions written by Odd Magnus Faltinsen and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exact ideal-fluid boundary-value problem is formulated for the diffraction of head-sea regular waves by a restrained ship. The problem is then simplified by applying four restrictions. The problem is solved by using matched asymptotic expansions. The result shows that the wave is attenuated as it propagates along the ship. The result is not expected to be valid near the bow or stern of the ship. The pressure distribution and force distribution along a ship model with circular cross-sections were calculated. The total force on the ship was compared with the value predicted by the Khaskind relation. The agreement is good. The experimental and theoretical pressure distribution along a prolate spheroid was compared. The predicted attenuation of the peak pressure is very well confirmed by the experiments. In addition, theory and experiment agree that the peak pressure near the ship generally leads the Froude-Kriloff pressure peak by 45 degrees. (Author).

Book Improved Time domain Code for Prediction of Ship Motion and Sea Loads in Head and Following Seas

Download or read book Improved Time domain Code for Prediction of Ship Motion and Sea Loads in Head and Following Seas written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes development work carried out to extend the previously developed prediction methods and associated computer code for the solution of the linear time domain hydrodynamic ship motion problem. The previous methods and code were restricted to head sea conditions, and the work reported extends these to include following sea conditions. Presents the theoretical methods used to determine the impulse response functions associated with the incident wave pressures and velocities and the diffracted and Froude- Krylov wave forces under following sea conditions. Also reviews computer code improvements incorporated in the latest work, including improvement in the static equilibrium calculation routine, provision of an improved hull panelling scheme and transom panelling procedure, and reduction in storage requirements. Presents validation studies to examine the performance of the improved hull motion prediction procedures. Both measured and predicted hull motion data for three widely differing hull forms are compared to numerical prediction obtained from the present computational modelling (both head sea and following sea data included).

Book Prediction of Ship Motions in Regular and Irregular Head Waves

Download or read book Prediction of Ship Motions in Regular and Irregular Head Waves written by E. N. Hubble and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current techniques for the prediction of ship motions in long-crested head waves are discussed. Addition of a speed term to the theoretical pitch damping coeffieient is correlated with experimental data. The relationship between absolute and relative motion along the ship length is discussed. Practical limits are established for integrating the spectral density functions for irregular-sea responses. Recommendations are made for updating computer program YF17, computing irregular wave responses with either idealized or real sea spectra such as the Station INDIA data.
