Download or read book Resources and Infrastructures in the Maritime Economy 1500 2000 written by Gordon Boyce and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2017-10-18 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a study of both the physical and intangible frameworks that enabled maritime resources to flow and infrastructures to operate. The aim is to demonstrate the complexity and diversity of the legal, social, cultural, and institutional forces at work within maritime economics. Port development, planning, and policy-making constitute the physical frameworks, while agency structures and consular networks make up the non-physical factors under discussion. Both land and sea commodities are examined, including capital mobilised from other sectors, and a particularly pertinent maritime commodity, fish. Through case studies, theory-driven analysis, evidence from statistical data, and regional and national comparisons, it successfully illustrates the structure of resource flow and the shape of maritime economic activity on an international scale spanning the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries. Nations examined include Scotland, England, New Zealand, Italy, Denmark, plus several Nordic and Mediterranean states. The book consists of three sections: the first exploring intangible infrastructures and their components; the second, resource flow and economic development; and, finally, the physical infrastructures of the ports themselves.

Download or read book Chinese Maritime Cases written by Martin Davies and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-16 with total page 2134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book selects leading, innovative and influential Chinese maritime judgments and presents full translation of them, with brief summary, to the readers so that they can have insights of how the Chinese maritime judges interpret, apply and develop Chinese maritime law in practice. China trades with other states in trillions of USD every year, and about 95% of the cargoes are carried by ocean-going ships calling at hundreds of Chinese ports each single day. Due to the enormous and steadily growing trade volume and shipping activities, foreign ships, companies and persons are often caught by the Chinese maritime law and court. The parties involved and their lawyers are more than ever enthusiastic to study Chinese maritime cases in order to deal with their own cases properly or, if possible, predicate the potential problems and avoid the disputes outright. The book is appealing to and benefits worldwide law students, academics, practitioners and industrial people in the shipping, trade, insurance and financial fields. The book remedies to certain extent the situation that there is lack of authoritative sources available to foreign personnel to look into how Chinese justice system functions.

Download or read book Freight Forwarder s Intermediary Role in Multimodal Transport Chains written by Hans-Joachim Schramm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-05 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the business of international freight forwarding is examined from both a theoretical and empirical point of view with a special emphasis on multimodal transport chains, including sea or air transport operations. In such contexts, the freight forwarder is always considered "The Architect of Transport", but this intermediary role seems to be largely neglected in research to date. Therefore, relevant concepts from economic theory and economic sociology are employed to produce both an intermediary and a network perspective of freight forwarding in order to provide a better understanding of this kind of transportation business. Furthermore, its intermediary role in such inherent network structures is explored by mapping relationship patterns in a stylized model framework applied to a questionnaire-based sample collected among freight forwarders engaged in such multimodal transport chains in Germany (especially from Hamburg, Bremen and Bremerhaven) as well as in Austria in 2003.
