Book Nonlinear Behaviour and Stability of Thin Walled Shells

Download or read book Nonlinear Behaviour and Stability of Thin Walled Shells written by Natalia I. Obodan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the nonlinear behaviour of thin-wall shells (single- and multilayered with delamination areas) under various uniform and non-uniform loadings. The dependence of critical (buckling) load upon load variability is revealed to be highly non-monotonous, showing minima when load variability is close to the eigenmode variabilities of solution branching points of the respective nonlinear boundary problem. A novel numerical approach is employed to analyze branching points and to build primary, secondary, and tertiary bifurcation paths of the nonlinear boundary problem for the case of uniform loading. The load levels of singular points belonging to the paths are considered to be critical load estimates for the case of non-uniform loadings.

Download or read book Thermo Dynamics of Plates and Shells written by Jan Awrejcewicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-02-15 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is devoted to nonlinear dynamics of thin plates and shells with thermosensitive excitation. Because of the variety of sizes and types of mathematical models in current use, there is no prospect of solving them analytically. However, the book emphasizes a rigorous mathematical treatment of the obtained differential equations, since it helps efficiently in further developing of various suitable numerical algorithms to solve the stated problems.

Book Asymptotic Methods In The Buckling Theory Of Elastic Shells

Download or read book Asymptotic Methods In The Buckling Theory Of Elastic Shells written by Andrei L Smirnov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-10-12 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains solutions to the most typical problems of thin elastic shells buckling under conservative loads. The linear problems of bifurcation of shell equilibrium are considered using a two-dimensional theory of the Kirchhoff-Love type. The explicit approximate formulas obtained by means of the asymptotic method permit one to estimate the critical loads and find the buckling modes. The solutions to some of the buckling problems are obtained for the first time in the form of explicit formulas. Special attention is devoted to the study of the shells of negative Gaussian curvature, the buckling of which has some specific features. The buckling modes localized near the weakest lines or points on the neutral surface are constructed, including the buckling modes localized near the weakly supported shell edge. The relations between the buckling modes and bending of the neutral surface are analyzed. Some of the applied asymptotic methods are standard; the others are new and are used for the first time in this book to study thin shell buckling. The solutions obtained in the form of simple approximate formulas complement the numerical results, and permit one to clarify the physics of buckling.

Book Geometric Method for Stability of Non Linear Elastic Thin Shells

Download or read book Geometric Method for Stability of Non Linear Elastic Thin Shells written by Jordanka Ivanova and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREFACE This book deals with the new developments and applications of the geometric method to the nonlinear stability problem for thin non-elastic shells. There are no other published books on this subject except the basic ones of A. V. Pogorelov (1966,1967,1986), where variational principles defined over isometric surfaces, are postulated, and applied mainly to static and dynamic problems of elastic isotropic thin shells. A. V. Pogorelov (Harkov, Ukraine) was the first to provide in his monographs the geometric construction of the deformed shell surface in a post-critical stage and deriving explicitely the asymptotic formulas for the upper and lower critical loads. In most cases, these formulas were presented in a closed analytical form, and confirmed by experimental data. The geometric method by Pogorelov is one of the most important analytical methods developed during the last century. Its power consists in its ability to provide a clear geometric picture of the postcritical form of a deformed shell surface, successfully applied to a direct variational approach to the nonlinear shell stability problems. Until now most Pogorelov's monographs were written in Russian, which limited the diffusion of his ideas among the international scientific community. The present book is intended to assist and encourage the researches in this field to apply the geometric method and the related results to everyday engineering practice.

Book Handbook of Fatigue Crack Propagation in Metallic Structures

Download or read book Handbook of Fatigue Crack Propagation in Metallic Structures written by A. Carpinteri and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this Handbook is to provide a review of the knowledge and experiences in the field of fatigue fracture mechanics. It is well-known that engineering structures can fail due to cyclic loading. For instance, a cyclically time-varying loading reduces the structure strength and can provoke a fatigue failure consisting of three stages: (a) crack initiation (b) crack propagation and (c) catastrophic failure. Since last century many scientists have tried to understand the reasons for the above-mentioned failures and how to prevent them. This Handbook contains valuable contributions from leading experts within the international scientific community and covers many of the important problems associated with the fatigue phenomena in civil, mechanical and nuclear engineering.
