Although history would suggest she is fated to mate with Cooper Hamilton, she hasn’t met him. For Cooper, the message is also clear. It’s the reason he hasn’t been to town in over two years. His time is up. As a seismologist, a series of earthquakes lure him to face his fate. Jackson Wolf is human. All he knows is the unbelievable physical attraction he has for Sharon. However, her family’s reputation for living in threesomes makes him shy away. Fate steps in, as She always does, to force Her hand. The land is rumbling. The citizens are fighting. The spirits are present. It’s time for Fate to arrange another mating. Her timing is never off. This book is a re-release of a previously published book. Book excerpt: First introduced in the Halos and Horns fantasy saga, these vampires and lycanthropes have their own stories to tell. Pandora's a carefree party girl who just happens to be a vampire. With her best friend Sharon Mordecai, a hybrid vampire; her boyfriend Cody Fenris, a werewolf; and Cody's sister Lupe, who transforms into a wolf, they run Nightstalkers, Inc., a private detective agency in Las Vegas. Pandora and Sharon also belong to Nosferatu, Inc., a worldwide corporation set up to provide relocation services for vampires, who cannot remain in one place indefinitely, lest the “breathers” question why they never age. When a Grigori unwittingly entrusts trouble-prone vampire Pandora with an ancient leather-bound box containing primordial evil, what could possibly go wrong? At least Pandora doesn't know her best friend slept with her boyfriend. Or that her werewolf beau has been targeted for revenge by one of his victims. Her BFF Sharon — the hybrid vampire infused with an angelic life force — has enough to worry about now that a deranged scientist/occultist is creating his own Frankenstein monster and requires an angelic life force to animate it. He's resurrected the spirit of Jack the Ripper to supply the body parts he needs from Las Vegas prostitutes. Should Kennedy be worried to walk the city streets? After a Valkyrie whisks the Nightstalkers, Inc. team of private eyes — vampires Sharon and Pandora, and lycanthrope siblings Cody and Lupe Fenris — off to the Otherworld dimension of the Fae to recover Thor’s golden gauntlets from the Dark Fae's leader, the Morrigan, the team will be forever changed. And how does that tie in with their new landlord Kitty Bast, an Egyptian cat goddess?

Book Seeing Eye Girl

Download or read book Seeing Eye Girl written by Beverly J. Armento and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-07-05 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the “Seeing Eye Girl” for her blind, artistic, and mentally ill mother, Beverly Armento was intimately connected with and responsible for her, even though her mother physically and emotionally abused her. She was Strong Beverly at school—excellent in academics and mentored by caring teachers—but at home she was Weak Beverly, cowed by her mother’s rage and delusions. Beverly’s mother regained her sight with two corneal transplants in 1950 and went on to enjoy a moment of fame as an artist, but these positive turns did nothing to stop her disintegration into her delusional world of communists, radiation, and lurking Italians. To survive, Beverly had to be resilient and hopeful that better days could be ahead. But first, she had to confront essential ethical issues about her caregiving role in her family. In this emotional memoir, Beverly shares the coping strategies she invented to get herself through the trials of her young life, and the ways in which school and church served as refuges over the course of her journey. Breaking the psychological chains that bound her to her mother would prove to be the most difficult challenge of her life—and, ultimately, the most liberating one.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So, for centuries your people have worked as farmers and hunters, knowing the future would roll down to the end days prophecied by the Mayan culture like a run-away freight train? Sue asked. Yes, it is true, Frank replied. We didnt have much choice, we had to keep body and soul together until the end days. We rocked along for centuries working in the fields and hunting. We domesticated fowl, eating their meat and eggs. We were all small communities and lived in simple dwellings that were relatively easy to repair. If we suffered natural disasters like earthquakes and tornadoes that destroyed our homes, we cleared away the rubble and started over. Then we came up on the twentieth century and everything got different. We went through a surge of creating new inventions. We learned to fly and made electricity, toilets that flushed, fancy cell phones and the internet. Suddenly there wasnt anything happening on the planet we didnt know about. Weve become complacent now, and a hundred years after the inventions came, our fancy inventions are beginning to crumble. We got so we depended on the economy. The monetary system took over. Men became greedy and pulled and tugged at the proceeds from Wall Street until it all began to unravel. They created bigger and better weapons not where you had your enemy in your sights, but you could take out whole cities at a time. The Hopi tell in their prophecies of villages in metal and glass canyons, where a man could walk all day and never see the horizon. One day someone would push a button and where a city had been there would just be steam. The people would have no choice but to just walk away if they survived. We are getting to be like the Olmecs and Mayans and Aztecs who couldnt feed their people because their population and their cities got too big, and they had to abandon them. Its not impossible New York could become an abandoned city. It could happen. They could just walk away. In the twentieth century, for the first time skirmishes became world wars. The young men left the land their forefathers defended and went to lose their blood and their lives defending someone elses land. One day soon we will lose all our fancy toys to the end of the age of electricity and technology and succumb to sunspots that will devastate communications. Our forefathers never knew sunspots existed.

Download or read book Vicious written by Jon T. Coleman and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over a continent and three centuries, American livestock owners destroyed wolves to protect the beasts that supplied them with food, clothing, mobility, and wealth. The brutality of the campaign soon exceeded wolves’ misdeeds. Wolves menaced property, not people, but storytellers often depicted the animals as ravenous threats to human safety. Subjects of nightmares and legends, wolves fell prey not only to Americans’ thirst for land and resources but also to their deeper anxieties about the untamed frontier. Now Americans study and protect wolves and jail hunters who shoot them without authorization. Wolves have become the poster beasts of the great American wilderness, and the federal government has paid millions of dollars to reintroduce them to scenic habitats like Yellowstone National Park. Why did Americans hate wolves for centuries? And, given the ferocity of this loathing, why are Americans now so protective of the animals? In this ambitious history of wolves in America—and of the humans who have hated and then loved them—Jon Coleman investigates a fraught relationship between two species and uncovers striking similarities, deadly differences, and, all too frequently, tragic misunderstanding.
