From a feeling, [ not from the news ] like a surf wave, powerful or gentle, I flow through the work If it’s a strong feeling, writing is fast. Most times it’s slow, laborious editing. I sometimes make notes. I don’t appreciate modern poetry. This is my own work. I copy no one. I love writing! Several poems are short stories. They contain a variety of windows into the imagination and fantasy. The thoughtful ones may arouse talking points.”

Book Moments with Marion

Download or read book Moments with Marion written by Monica M. Flynn and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I first started writing about my experiences with my Mothers dementia in a blog, to share some of the lighter moments of living with someone who has dementia and because in many ways it helped me manage the sadness. The tricky part of sharing the moments about my Mother was to continue to honor the woman I knew her to be. She was intelligent and witty with a wonderful, dry, sense of humor. Mom laughed at herself often and would tease others without insult. She was never unkind, enjoyed people and was lovely company. All that changed with her dementia. My family is now dealing with a person we have never known. A stranger to us some moments, only to be our funny and thoughtful Mother the next. To witness the incremental loss of this incredible woman, who gave more in life than I could ever begin to explain, is a heartbreaking tragedy. So I began to write my Moments With Marion to reach out for a connection and to share a story that is so common to millions of people who are suffering along with my family. I hope this book connects with those experiencing the mental decline of a loved one, who bear witness to the mental disappearance of one so dear and the heartbreak of being slowly erased from their mind in the process. There is hope for comfort, if not in the process of sharing, at least in the knowledge that you are not alone.

Book Six Moments in Lacan

Download or read book Six Moments in Lacan written by Derek Hook and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-08-14 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many first-time readers of Jacques Lacan come to his work via psychology, a discipline that Lacan was notoriously antagonistic toward. Six Moments in Lacan takes up the dual challenge of introducing Lacanian psychoanalysis to an audience interested in psychology, while also stressing the fundamental differences between the two disciplines. Punctuated by lively examples, Six Moments in Lacan demonstrates the distinctive value of Lacanian concepts in approaching afresh topics such as communication, identity, otherness and inter-subjectivity. Avoiding the jargon and wilful obscurity that so often accompanies expositions of Lacan’s psychoanalytic theories, this book puts Lacanian ideas to work in practical and illuminating ways. A handful of concepts, draw from distinct moments in Lacan’s teaching, are contextualized and explained, and applied to the task of exploring the ‘psychological’ and unconscious dimensions of everyday life. Notions such as the ‘big Other’, ‘full’ versus ‘empty’ speech, logical time, ‘imaginary’ and ‘symbolic’ identification, and the idea of ‘the master signifier’ are brought to life via popular cultural references. Revitalizing several Freudian and Lacanian concepts for everyday use, Six Moments in Lacan asks – and answers – a series of compelling questions: Why is it that each instance of speech implies a listener? Why is the notion of subjectivity inadequate when it comes to the ‘trans-subjective’ nature of language? Is it possible to elaborate a ‘non-psychological’ theory of identification? Why is a Lacanian approach to ‘the subject’ so at odds with models proposed by psychology? Six Moments in Lacan provides an accessible and highly engaging introduction to Lacan and Lacanian psychoanalysis, aimed at early practitioners and students in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy and those studying upper undergraduate and postgraduate level psychology.

Book The Power of Moments

Download or read book The Power of Moments written by Chip Heath and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-10-03 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestselling authors of Switch and Made to Stick explore why certain brief experiences can jolt us and elevate us and change us—and how we can learn to create such extraordinary moments in our life and work. While human lives are endlessly variable, our most memorable positive moments are dominated by four elements: elevation, insight, pride, and connection. If we embrace these elements, we can conjure more moments that matter. What if a teacher could design a lesson that he knew his students would remember twenty years later? What if a manager knew how to create an experience that would delight customers? What if you had a better sense of how to create memories that matter for your children? This book delves into some fascinating mysteries of experience: Why we tend to remember the best or worst moment of an experience, as well as the last moment, and forget the rest. Why “we feel most comfortable when things are certain, but we feel most alive when they’re not.” And why our most cherished memories are clustered into a brief period during our youth. Readers discover how brief experiences can change lives, such as the experiment in which two strangers meet in a room, and forty-five minutes later, they leave as best friends. (What happens in that time?) Or the tale of the world’s youngest female billionaire, who credits her resilience to something her father asked the family at the dinner table. (What was that simple question?) Many of the defining moments in our lives are the result of accident or luck—but why would we leave our most meaningful, memorable moments to chance when we can create them? The Power of Moments shows us how to be the author of richer experiences.

Book Peer Play and Relationships in Early Childhood

Download or read book Peer Play and Relationships in Early Childhood written by Avis Ridgway and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-29 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a rich collection of international research narratives that reveal the qualities and value of peer play. It presents new understandings of peer play and relationships in chapters drawn from richly varied contexts that involve sibling play, collaborative peer play, and joint play with adults. The book explores social strategies such as cooperation, negotiation, playing with rules, expressing empathy, and sharing imaginary emotional peer play experiences. Its reconceptualization of peer play and relationships promotes new thinking on children's development in contemporary worlds. It shows how new knowledge generated about young children's play with peers illuminates how they learn and develop within and across communities, families, and educational settings in diverse cultural contexts. The book addresses issues that are relevant for parents, early years' professionals and academics, including the role of play in learning at school, the role of adults in self-initiated play, and the long-term impact of early friendships. The book makes clear how recent cultural differences involve digital, engineering and imaginary peer play. The book follows a clear line of argument highlighting the importance of play-based learning and stress the importance of further knowledge of children's interaction in their context. This book aims to highlight the narration of peer play, mostly leaning on a sociocultural theoretical perspective, where many chapters have a cultural-historical theoretical frame and highlight children's social situation of development.
