Book Shape Optimization of Tibial Prosthesis Components

Download or read book Shape Optimization of Tibial Prosthesis Components written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-19 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NASA technology and optimal design methodologies originally developed for the optimization of composite structures (engine blades) are adapted and applied to the optimization of orthopaedic knee implants. A method is developed enabling the shape tailoring of the tibial components of a total knee replacement implant for optimal interaction within the environment of the tibia. The shape of the implant components are optimized such that the stresses in the bone are favorably controlled to minimize bone degradation, to improve the mechanical integrity of the implant/interface/bone system, and to prevent failures of the implant components. A pilot tailoring system is developed and the feasibility of the concept is demonstrated and evaluated. The methodology and evolution of the existing aerospace technology from which this pilot optimization code was developed is also presented and discussed. Both symmetric and unsymmetric in-plane loading conditions are investigated. The results of the optimization process indicate a trend toward wider and tapered posts as well as thicker backing trays. Unique component geometries were obtained for the different load cases. Saravanos, D. A. and Mraz, P. J. and Davy, D. T. Unspecified Center NAG3-1027; RTOP 141-20-0F...

Book Personalized Hip and Knee Joint Replacement

Download or read book Personalized Hip and Knee Joint Replacement written by Charles Rivière and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book describes and illustrates the surgical techniques, implants, and technologies used for the purpose of personalized implantation of hip and knee components. This new and flourishing treatment philosophy offers important benefits over conventional systematic techniques, including component positioning appropriate to individual anatomy, improved surgical reproducibility and prosthetic performance, and a reduction in complications. The techniques described in the book aim to reproduce patients’ native anatomy and physiological joint laxity, thereby improving the prosthetic hip/knee kinematics and functional outcomes in the quest of the forgotten joint. They include kinematically aligned total knee/total hip arthroplasty, partial knee replacement, and hip resurfacing. The relevance of available and emerging technological tools for these personalized approaches is also explained, with coverage of, for example, robotics, computer-assisted surgery, and augmented reality. Contributions from surgeons who are considered world leaders in diverse fields of this novel surgical philosophy make this open access book will invaluable to a wide readership, from trainees at all levels to consultants practicing lower limb surgery

Book Basics in Primary Knee Arthroplasty

Download or read book Basics in Primary Knee Arthroplasty written by Roland Becker and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-05 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book supplies all the information that the young orthopaedic surgeon needs to know when preparing to perform total or partial knee replacement for the first time and also provides more experienced surgeons with a comprehensive general update on the basics. After an opening section on anatomy and kinematics of the knee, patient management during the pre-, peri-, and postoperative phases is covered in detail with the aid of numerous illustrations. The final section considers postoperative patient evaluation, outcome measurements, and the value of registries. Readers will gain a sound understanding of the scientific basis underlying management decisions, of component design philosophies, and of the rationale for preferences such as mechanical alignment and ligament balancing. The pros and cons of a variety of management choices are explained, and guidance provided on patient selection. Surgical techniques are presented on high-quality videos and many tips and tricks are highlighted to help the inexperienced to cope with challenging situations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents up-to-date knowledge on all aspects of total knee joint arthroplasty (TKA). It opens by considering indications for TKA and implant selection, covering basic science, design, and prosthetic materials. The basic and advanced operative procedures, along with theoretical background, are then described in detail for both primary and revision surgery. The operative techniques for TKA in specific and complex conditions are included. Complications of TKA and their treatment are also discussed, and clear guidance is provided on postoperative management and patient education. The author introduces his personal surgical tips and opinions on controversial issues based on his experience of TKA in some 6,000 cases. Numerous helpful illustrations and radiographs from the author’s caseload are presented to assist readers in carrying out the described procedures.

Book Fundamentals of Revision Knee Arthroplasty

Download or read book Fundamentals of Revision Knee Arthroplasty written by David Jacofsky and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-06-01 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Revision Knee Arthroplasty: Diagnosis, Evaluation, and Treatment is a unique and very timely book designed for surgeons who are beginning to more commonly encounter knee revisions in their practice. Unlike many traditional books on revision, Fundamentals of Revision Knee Arthroplasty does not focus on the most difficult and challenging of cases. Rather, Fundamentals of Revision Knee Arthroplasty is intended to guide the surgeon in the evaluation of the failed or painful total joint replacement, review basic tenants and surgical principles of revision arthroplasty, and guide the surgeon in determining whether a given case is one that should be managed or is best referred to a tertiary orthopedic center. Along with their 32 contributors, Dr. David J. Jacofsky and Dr. Anthony K. Hedley provide detailed information inside Fundamentals of Revision Knee Arthroplasty, including appropriate preoperative evaluation, equipment requirements, surgical planning, need for augments and allograft, and surgical techniques. Surgeons will be tackling knee revision surgery more frequently as the number of these cases is exponentially increasing. Fundamentals of Revision Knee Arthroplasty provides a “go-to” resource to turn to for guidance by community arthroplasty surgeons, arthroplasty fellows, and residents.
