Book Sex Instructions for Farmers

Download or read book Sex Instructions for Farmers written by Charles McSherry and published by Mercier Press Ltd. This book was released on 2019-05-03 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sex Instructions for Farmers is a light-hearted guide to finding and keeping love for that stalwart of the Irish rural community – the bachelor farmer. This man, while a prince behind his plough, who can freely discuss international problems, wilts before the female form. First published in 1980, chapters include sage advice on how to 'prepare the soil', how to sow the seeds of a fruitful relationship and how to reap the bounty from his labours. Filled with pearls of wisdom, such as 'bottom pinching is unsporting' and 'the practice of changing one's socks once a month will in future be regarded as insufficient', this humorous piece of nostalgia may still prove useful to some modern men!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a New York Times–bestselling author, comes this “highly entertaining tale [with] considerable humor and some cynical fun at the expense of the book business” (Publishers Weekly). At Davis & Dash, one of New York’s most prestigious publishing houses, five new authors will be published—but only one of them will be a bestseller. They have worked long and hard to write their novels of romance and murder, drama and love, but the story behind the stories is even more exciting. And the vicious competition to get the right agent, the perfect editor, and the choice spot on the bestseller list must be seen to be believed. From the author of The First Wives Club, this “dishy” novel set in New York’s book publishing industry (Glamour) is a fun behind-the-scenes romp with “lots of romance and revenge” (The Washington Post Book World). “Extremely satisfying.” —The New York Times Book Review

Download or read book A woman s place written by Ciara Meehan and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2023-02-28 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores representations of the domestic in Irish women’s magazines. Published in 1960s Ireland, during a period of transformation, they served as modern manuals for navigating everyday life. Traditional themes – dating, marriage, and motherhood – dominated. But editors also introduced conflicting voices to complicate the narrative. Readers were prompted to reimagine their home life, and traditional values were carefully subverted. The domestic was shown to be a negotiable concept in the coverage of such issues as the body and reproductive rights, working wives and equal pay. Dominant societal perceptions of women were also challenged through the inclusion of those who were on the margins – widows, unmarried mothers, and never-married women. This book considers the motivations of editors, the role of readers, and the influence of advertisers in shaping complex debates about women in society in 1960s Ireland.
