Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition appeared fourteen years ago. Since then there have been significant advances in our science that warrant an updating and revision of Sand and Sandstone. The main framework of the first edition has been retained so that the reader can begin with the mineralogy and textural properties of sands and sandstones, progress through their organization and classification and their study as a body of rock, to consideration of their origin-prove nance, transportation, deposition, and lithification-and finally to their place in the stratigraphic column and the basin. The last decade has seen the rise of facies analysis based on a closer look at the stratigraphic record and the recognition of characteristic bed ding sequences that are the signatures of some geologic process-such as a prograding shallow-water delta or the migration of a point bar on an alluvial floodplain. The environment of sand deposition is more closely determined by its place in such depositional systems than by criteria based on textural characteristics-the "fingerprint" approach. Our revi sion reflects this change in thinking. As in the geological sciences as a whole, the concept of plate tectonics has required a rethinking of our older ideas about the origin and accumu lation of sediments-especially the nature of the sedimentary basins.

Book Introduction to Enhanced Recovery Methods for Heavy Oil and Tar Sands

Download or read book Introduction to Enhanced Recovery Methods for Heavy Oil and Tar Sands written by James G. Speight and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2016-02-24 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Enhanced Recovery Methods for Heavy Oil and Tar Sands, Second Edition, explores the importance of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and how it has grown in recent years thanks to the increased need to locate unconventional resources such as heavy oil and shale. Unfortunately, petroleum engineers and managers aren't always well-versed in the enhancement methods that are available when needed or the most economically viable solution to maximize their reservoir's productivity. This revised new edition presents all the current methods of recovery available, including the pros and cons of each. Expanded and updated as a great preliminary text for the newcomer to the industry or subject matter, this must-have EOR guide teaches all the basics needed, including all thermal and non-thermal methods, along with discussions of viscosity, sampling, and the technologies surrounding offshore applications. - Enables users to quickly learn how to choose the most efficient recovery method for their reservoir while evaluating economic conditions - Presents the differences between each method of recovery with newly added real-world case studies from around the world - Helps readers stay competitive with the growing need of extracting unconventional resources with new content on how these complex reservoirs interact with injected reservoir fluids

Book Dynamics of Marine Sands

Download or read book Dynamics of Marine Sands written by Richard Soulsby and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 1997 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practical engineer looking for an urgent solution to a sediment-related project often finds that the results of the relevant academic research are published in unfamiliar language in publications that are not easily available. Dynamics of marine sands bridges the gap between academic research and practical applications by summarising the research results in a unified form, backed up with worked examples and case studies. This comprehensive new book presents methods for calculating the various hydrodynamic and sediment dynamic quantities necessary for marine sediment transport applications, and recommends the most appropriate methods to use for engineering projects.

Book Sand Production Management for Unconsolidated Sandstone Reservoirs

Download or read book Sand Production Management for Unconsolidated Sandstone Reservoirs written by Shouwei Zhou and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-03-21 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates sand production problems in the development of unconsolidated sand reservoirs and suggests novel technical solutions and improvements to sand management issues. This book is divided into six chapters: (1) geologic characteristics of unconsolidated sand heavy oil reservoirs and concept of sand management technology; (2) sand production mechanisms and its effect on reservoir petrophysical quality; (3) sand production quantity prediction and well productivity evaluation methods, especially for fluid-solid coupling prediction model; (4) completion technology for sand management; (5) sand flow in well bore and surface processing; (6) the application of sand management technology in China’s Bohai heavy oil field. Readership: Petroleum reservoir engineers and production managers worldwide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A comprehensive and entertaining historical and botanical review, providing an enjoyable and cognitive read.”—Nature The foods we eat have a deep and often surprising past. From almonds and apples to tea and rice, many foods that we consume today have histories that can be traced out of prehistoric Central Asia along the tracks of the Silk Road to kitchens in Europe, America, China, and elsewhere in East Asia. The exchange of goods, ideas, cultural practices, and genes along these ancient routes extends back five thousand years, and organized trade along the Silk Road dates to at least Han Dynasty China in the second century BC. Balancing a broad array of archaeological, botanical, and historical evidence, Fruit from the Sands presents the fascinating story of the origins and spread of agriculture across Inner Asia and into Europe and East Asia. Through the preserved remains of plants found in archaeological sites, Robert N. Spengler III identifies the regions where our most familiar crops were domesticated and follows their routes as people carried them around the world. With vivid examples, Fruit from the Sands explores how the foods we eat have shaped the course of human history and transformed cuisines all over the globe.

Book excerpt: What is War Sand conflict sand is sand that has been tainted by the remnants of projectiles that were used in a conflict. Since the invasion of Normandy, this particular type of sand has been discovered in a number of different locations, including Normandy. In 1988, it was determined that the sand on Omaha Beach contained man-made metal and glass particles that originated from shrapnel. Four percent of the sand in the sample was made up of shrapnel particles that ranged in size from 0.06 millimeters (0.0024 inches) to 1 millimeter (0.039 inches). In addition, researchers found minute quantities of iron and glass beads in the sand. These beads were shown to have originated from the extreme heat that was released by the explosions of munitions in both the air and the sand. How you will benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: War sand Chapter 2: Sandstone Chapter 3: Omaha Beach Chapter 4: Sediment Chapter 5: Silt Chapter 6: List of rock types Chapter 7: Sandpaper Chapter 8: Trinitite Chapter 9: Aeolian processes Chapter 10: Conglomerate (geology) (II) Answering the public top questions about war sand.
