Download or read book Biographical Sermon Outlines for All Preachers written by Stephen Adu-Boahen and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biographical Sermon Outlines for all Preachers offer an inexhaustible source of sermons to faithful preachers of God's Word. The Bible contains over 3,000 different male characters. There are also several female characters in both the Old and New Testaments. If we decide to preach only one sermon on each of these 3,000 men characters alone, (which can never be possible because of the several events in their lives) it will take us not less than 60 years to do this. So if you come into the ministry at 30 years of age, by the time you finish all the sermons on only the Bible men characters you will be over 90 years and will be enjoying your retirement somewhere if the Lord has not already called you home!...Preparing and preaching Biographical Sermons on the suggested men and women characters in this book can also go a long way to help us improve upon our preaching. This can help us to vary the Biographical Sermons we can prepare and preach on our own by giving us extra 140 Sermons.
Download or read book Epistle to Marguerite de Navarre and Preface to a Sermon by John Calvin written by Marie Dentière and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2007-11-01 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born to a noble family in Tournai, Marie Dentière (1495-1561) left her convent in the 1520s to work for religious reform. She married a former priest and with her husband went to Switzerland, where she was active in the Reformation's takeover of Geneva. Dentière's Very Useful Epistle (1539) is the first explicit statement of reformed theology by a woman to appear in French. Addressed to Queen Marguerite of Navarre, sister of the French king Francis I, the Epistle asks the queen to help those persecuted for their religious beliefs. Dentière offers a stirring defense of women and asserts their right to teach the word of God in public. She defends John Calvin against his enemies and attacks the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church. Her Preface (1561) to one of Calvin's sermons criticizes immodesty and extravagance in clothing and warns the faithful to be vigilant. Undaunted in the face of suppression and ridicule, this outspoken woman persisted as an active voice in the Reformation.

This book was released on 1816 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the sermons contained in this collection were delivered on the twenty-fourth of August, in the year 1662. On that day the act requiring a perfect conformity to the book of Common Prayer, and to the rites and ceremonies of the church took place, the effect of which enactment was the silencing of nearly two thousand five hundred ministers, the death of three thousand nonconformists, and the ruin of sixty thousand families. Such was the result of the restoration of Charles the Second of infamous memory. - Preface.

Download or read book The King James Bible written by David Norton and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-01-20 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The King James Bible was the result of an extraordinary effort over nearly a century to make many good English translations and turn them into what the translators called 'one principal good one, not justly to be excepted against'. David Norton traces the work of Tyndale and his successors, analysing the translation and revisions of two representative passages. His fascinating new account follows in detail the creation of the KJB, including attention to the translators' manuscript work. He also examines previously unknown evidence such as the diary of John Bois, the only man who made notes on the translation. At the centre of the book is a thorough discussion of the first edition. The latter part of the book traces the printing and textual history of the KJB and provides a concise account of its changing scholarly and literary reputations.
