Book Separable Algebras over Commutative Rings

Download or read book Separable Algebras over Commutative Rings written by Frank De Meyer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecture notes were prepared by the authors for use in graduate courses and seminars, based on the work of many earlier mathematicians. In addition to very elementary results, presented for the convenience of the reader, Chapter I contains the Morita theorems and the definition of the projective class group of a commutative ring. Chapter II addresses the Brauer group of a commutative ring, and automorphisms of separable algebras. Chapter III surveys the principal theorems of the Galois theory for commutative rings. In Chapter IV the authors present a direct derivation of the first six terms of the seven-term exact sequence for Galois cohomology. In the fifth and final chapter the authors illustrate the preceding material with applications to the structure of central simple algebras and the Brauer group of a Dedekind domain, and they pose problems for further investigation. Exercises are included at the end of each chapter.

Book excerpt: The Separable Galois Theory of Commutative Rings, Second Edition provides a complete and self-contained account of the Galois theory of commutative rings from the viewpoint of categorical classification theorems and using solely the techniques of commutative algebra. Along with updating nearly every result and explanation, this edition contains a n

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive introduction to the theory of separable algebras over commutative rings. After a thorough introduction to the general theory, the fundamental roles played by separable algebras are explored. For example, Azumaya algebras, the henselization of local rings, and Galois theory are rigorously introduced and treated. Interwoven throughout these applications is the important notion of étale algebras. Essential connections are drawn between the theory of separable algebras and Morita theory, the theory of faithfully flat descent, cohomology, derivations, differentials, reflexive lattices, maximal orders, and class groups. The text is accessible to graduate students who have finished a first course in algebra, and it includes necessary foundational material, useful exercises, and many nontrivial examples.

Book Quadratic Algebras Clifford Algebras and Arithmetic Witt Groups

Download or read book Quadratic Algebras Clifford Algebras and Arithmetic Witt Groups written by Alexander J. Hahn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quadratic Algebras, Clifford Algebras, and Arithmetic Forms introduces mathematicians to the large and dynamic area of algebras and forms over commutative rings. The book begins very elementary and progresses gradually in its degree of difficulty. Topics include the connection between quadratic algebras, Clifford algebras and quadratic forms, Brauer groups, the matrix theory of Clifford algebras over fields, Witt groups of quadratic and symmetric bilinear forms. Some of the new results included by the author concern the representation of Clifford algebras, the structure of Arf algebra in the free case, connections between the group of isomorphic classes of finitely generated projectives of rank one and arithmetic results about the quadratic Witt group.

Download or read book Quadratic Forms Over Q and Galois Extensions of Commutative Rings written by Frank DeMeyer and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1989 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of the first two sections of this memoir is to give explicit descriptions of both the Witt ring of the rational numbers [bold]Q and the set of abelian extensions of [bold]Q. The third presents a discussion around a particular case of the Galois cubic extension, building on the general theory.

Book Smoothness Regularity and Complete Intersection

Download or read book Smoothness Regularity and Complete Intersection written by Javier Majadas and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-05-06 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written to complement standard texts on commutative algebra, this short book gives complete and relatively easy proofs of important results, including the standard results involving localisation of formal smoothness (M. André) and localisation of complete intersections (L. Avramov), some important results of D. Popescu and André on regular homomorphisms, and some results from A. Grothendieck's EGA on smooth homomorphisms. The authors make extensive use of the André–Quillen homology of commutative algebras, but only up to dimension 2, which is easy to construct, and they deliberately avoid using simplicial methods. The book also serves as an accessible introduction to some advanced topics and techniques. The only prerequisites are a basic course in commutative algebra and the first definitions in homological algebra.

Book Commutative Algebra Proceedings Of The Workshop

Download or read book Commutative Algebra Proceedings Of The Workshop written by Giuseppe Valla and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-08-19 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a relatively short time, commutative algebra has grown in many directions. Over a period of nearly fifty years starting from the so-called homological period till today, the area has developed into a rich laboratory of methods, structures and problem-solving tools. One could say a distinct modern trend of commutative algebra is a strong interaction with various aspects of Combinatorics and Computer Algebra. This has resulted in a new sense of measuring for old assumptions, and a better understanding of old results. At the same time, Invariant Theory and Algebraic Geometry remain constituents of an everlasting classical source, responsible for important themes that have been developed in Commutative Algebra — such as deformation, linkage, algebraic tori and determinantal rings, etc. This volume of proceedings is well-entrenched on the lines of development outlined above. As such, it aims to keep researchers and mathematicians well-informed of the developments in the field.
