Download or read book Politiques migratoires en Afrique de l ouest written by Lama Kabbanji and published by KARTHALA Editions. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Long Journeys African Migrants on the Road

Download or read book Long Journeys African Migrants on the Road written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2013-06-15 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trapped inside lorries or huddled aboard unseaworthy boats, irregular African migrants make for troubling headlines in western media, fueling fever pitch fears of an impending "African exodus" to Europe. Despite the increasing, albeit sensational, attention irregular migration attracts on both sides of the Mediterranean, little is known about what shapes and influences the lives of these Africans before, during, and after their “migratory projects.” By privileging migrants' narratives and drawing on evidence-based field research from different disciplinary backgrounds, the volume demystifies and dislodges many common assumptions about the human ecology of irregular African migration to Europe, arguably one of the most widely debated, yet least understood, phenomenon of our time.

Book Understanding Global Migration

Download or read book Understanding Global Migration written by James F. Hollifield and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding Global Migration offers scholars a groundbreaking account of emerging migration states around the globe, especially in the Global South. Leading scholars of migration have collaborated to provide a birds-eye view of migration interdependence. Understanding Global Migration proposes a new typology of migration states, identifying multiple ideal types beyond the classical liberal type. Much of the world's migration has been to countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America. The authors assembled here account for diverse histories of colonialism, development, and identity in shaping migration policy. This book provides a truly global look at the dilemmas of migration governance: Will migration be destabilizing, or will it lead to greater openness and human development? The answer depends on the capacity of states to manage migration, especially their willingness to respect the rights of the ever-growing portion of the world's population that is on the move.

Book The Palgrave Handbook of South South Migration and Inequality

Download or read book The Palgrave Handbook of South South Migration and Inequality written by Heaven Crawley and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-27 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access handbook examines the phenomenon of South-South migration and its relationship to inequality in the Global South, where at least a third of all international migration takes place. Drawing on contributions from nearly 70 leading migration scholars, mainly from the Global South, the handbook challenges dominant conceptualisations of migration, offering new perspectives and insights that can inform theoretical and policy understandings and unlock migration’s development potential. The handbook is divided into four parts, each highlighting often overlooked mobility patterns within and between regions of the Global South, as well as the inequalities faced by those who move. Key cross-cutting themes include gender, race, poverty and income inequality, migration decision making, intermediaries, remittances, technology, climate change, food security and migration governance. The handbook is an indispensable resource on South-South migration and inequality for academics, researchers, postgraduates and development practitioners.
