Book Semigroups of Linear Operators and Applications to Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Semigroups of Linear Operators and Applications to Partial Differential Equations written by Amnon Pazy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the characterization of generators of C0 semigroups was established in the 1940s, semigroups of linear operators and its neighboring areas have developed into an abstract theory that has become a necessary discipline in functional analysis and differential equations. This book presents that theory and its basic applications, and the last two chapters give a connected account of the applications to partial differential equations.

Book Numerical Semigroups and Applications

Download or read book Numerical Semigroups and Applications written by Abdallah Assi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-25 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents applications of numerical semigroups in Algebraic Geometry, Number Theory, and Coding Theory. Background on numerical semigroups is presented in the first two chapters, which introduce basic notation and fundamental concepts and irreducible numerical semigroups. The focus is in particular on free semigroups, which are irreducible; semigroups associated with planar curves are of this kind. The authors also introduce semigroups associated with irreducible meromorphic series, and show how these are used in order to present the properties of planar curves. Invariants of non-unique factorizations for numerical semigroups are also studied. These invariants are computationally accessible in this setting, and thus this monograph can be used as an introduction to Factorization Theory. Since factorizations and divisibility are strongly connected, the authors show some applications to AG Codes in the final section. The book will be of value for undergraduate students (especially those at a higher level) and also for researchers wishing to focus on the state of art in numerical semigroups research.

Book Theory of Semigroups and Applications

Download or read book Theory of Semigroups and Applications written by Kalyan B. Sinha and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents major topics in semigroups, such as operator theory, partial differential equations, harmonic analysis, probability and statistics and classical and quantum mechanics, and applications. Along with a systematic development of the subject, the book emphasises on the explorations of the contact areas and interfaces, supported by the presentations of explicit computations, wherever feasible. Designed into seven chapters and three appendixes, the book targets to the graduate and senior undergraduate students of mathematics, as well as researchers in the respective areas. The book envisages the pre-requisites of a good understanding of real analysis with elements of the theory of measures and integration, and a first course in functional analysis and in the theory of operators. Chapters 4 through 6 contain advanced topics, which have many interesting applications such as the Feynman–Kac formula, the central limit theorem and the construction of Markov semigroups. Many examples have been given in each chapter, partly to initiate and motivate the theory developed and partly to underscore the applications. The choice of topics in this vastly developed book is a difficult one, and the authors have made an effort to stay closer to applications instead of bringing in too many abstract concepts.

Book Special Classes of Semigroups

Download or read book Special Classes of Semigroups written by Attila Nagy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-05-31 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In semigroup theory there are certain kinds of band decompositions, which are very useful in the study of the structure semigroups. There are a number of special semigroup classes in which these decompositions can be used very successfully. The book focuses attention on such classes of semigroups. Some of them are partially discussed in earlier books, but in the last thirty years new semigroup classes have appeared and a fairly large body of material has been published on them. The book provides a systematic review on this subject. The first chapter is an introduction. The remaining chapters are devoted to special semigroup classes. These are Putcha semigroups, commutative semigroups, weakly commutative semigroups, R-Commutative semigroups, conditionally commutative semigroups, RC-commutative semigroups, quasi commutative semigroups, medial semigroups, right commutative semigroups, externally commutative semigroups, E-m semigroups, WE-m semigroups, weakly exponential semigroups, (m,n)-commutative semigroups and n(2)-permutable semigroups. Audience: Students and researchers working in algebra and computer science.

Book excerpt: Semigroups is a collection of papers dealing with models of classical statistics, sequential computing machine, inverse semi-groups. One paper explains the structure of inverse semigroups that leads to P-semigroups or E-unitary inverse semigroups by utilizing the P-theorem of W.D. Nunn. Other papers explain the characterization of divisibility in the category of sets in terms of images and relations, as well as the universal aspects of completely simple semigroups, including amalgamation, the lattice of varieties, and the Hopf property. Another paper explains finite semigroups which are extensions of congruence-free semigroups, where their set of congruences forms a chain. The paper then shows how to construct such semigroups. A finite semigroup (which is decomposable into a direct product of cyclic semigroups which are not groups) is actually uniquely decomposable. One paper points out when a finite semigroup has such a decomposition, and how its non-group cyclic direct factors, if any, can be found. The collection can prove useful for mathematicians, statisticians, students, and professors of higher mathematics or computer science.

Book Semigroups and Their Applications

Download or read book Semigroups and Their Applications written by Simon M. Goberstein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1987-04-30 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most papers published in this volume are based on lectures presented at the Chico Conference on Semigroups held on the Chico campus of the Cal ifornia State University on April 10-12, 1986. The conference was spon sored by the California State University, Chico in cooperation with the Engineering Computer Sciences Department of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The program included seven 50-minute addresses and seventeen 30-minute lectures. Speakers were invited by the organizing committee consisting of S. M. Goberstein and P. M. Higgins. The purpose of the conference was to bring together some of the leading researchers in the area of semigroup theory for a discussion of major recent developments in the field. The algebraic theory of semigroups is growing so rapidly and new important results are being produced at such a rate that the need for another meeting was well justified. It was hoped that the conference would help to disseminate new results more rapidly among those working in semi groups and related areas and that the exchange of ideas would stimulate research in the subject even further. These hopes were realized beyond all expectations.

Download or read book Gibbs Semigroups written by Valentin A. Zagrebnov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-17 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the theory of the Gibbs semigroups, which originated in the 1970s and was motivated by the study of strongly continuous operator semigroups with values in the trace-class ideal. The book offers an up-to-date, exhaustive overview of the advances achieved in this theory after half a century of development. It begins with a tutorial introduction to the necessary background material, before presenting the Gibbs semigroups and then providing detailed and systematic information on the Trotter-Kato product formulae in the trace-norm topology. In addition to reviewing the state-of-art concerning the Trotter-Kato product formulae, the book extends the scope of exposition from the trace-class ideal to other ideals. Here, special attention is paid to results on semigroups in symmetrically normed ideals and in the Dixmier ideal. By examining the progress made in Gibbs semigroup theory and in extensions of the Trotter-Kato product formulae to symmetrically normed and Dixmier ideals, the book shares timely and valuable insights for readers interested in pursuing these subjects further. As such, it will appeal to researchers, undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and mathematical physics.
