This book was released on 2006-06-06 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series contains all the papers accepted for presentationat the second IEEE InternationalWorkshopon Self-Managed Networks, Systems and Services (SelfMan 2006), which was held at University College Dublin, Ireland on June 16, 2006. This workshop follows up on a very successful edition that took place last year in Nice, France. The online proceedings of SelfMan 2005 are available at http://madynes.loria.fr/selfman2005/. The objectives of this year's edition were to bring together people from d- ferent communities (networking, distributed systems, softwareengineering, P2P, service engineering, distributed arti?cial intelligence, robotics, etc.) and cro- pollinatetheir experienceindesigningandimplementingself-managednetworks, systems and services. We received 51 papers from 21 countries, of which 12 were selected. The - ceptance ratio was below 24%. In addition, we selected three work-in-progress papers for short presentations. This one-day event was structured so as to - courage discussions and foster collaborations. The breadth of the topics presented herein re?ects the current interest and developments in this rapidly growing?eld. It is also a testimony to the promises of self-management to design, operate and manage today's increasingly complex and heterogeneous networks, systems and services.

Book Analysis and Modelling of Faces and Gestures

Download or read book Analysis and Modelling of Faces and Gestures written by Wenyi Zhao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-10-04 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last 30 years, face recognition and related problems such as face detection/tracking and facial expression recognition have attracted researchers from both the engineering and psychology communities. In addition, extensive research has been carried out to study hand and body gestures. The understanding of how humans perceive these important cues has significant scientific value and extensive applications. For example, human-computer interaction, visual surveillance, and smart video indexing are active application areas. Aiming towards putting such amazing perception capability onto computer systems, researchers have made substantial progress. However, technological challenges still exist in many aspects. Following a format similar to the IEEE International Workshop on Analysis and Modeling of Faces and Gestures (AMFG) 2003, this one-day workshop (AMFG 2005) provided a focused international forum to bring together well-known researchers and research groups to review the status of recognition, analysis and modeling of faces and gestures, to discuss the challenges that we are facing, and to explore future directions. Overall, 30 papers were selected from 90 submitted manuscripts. The topics of these papers range from feature representation, robust recognition, learning, and 3D modeling to psychology. In addition, two invited talks were given, by Prof. Kanade and Dr. Phillips. The technical program was organized into four oral sessions and two poster sessions. This workshop would not have been possible without the timely reviews provided by the members of the Technical Program Committee under a tight schedule. Book Self and P2P for Network Management

Download or read book Self and P2P for Network Management written by Clarissa Cassales Marquezan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-10 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The network management community has been pushed towards the design of alternative management approaches able to support heterogeneity, scalability, reliability, and minor human intervention. The employment of self-* properties and Peer-To-Peer (P2P) are seen as promising alternatives, able to provide the sophisticated solutions required. Despite being developed in parallel, and with minor direct connections perceived between them, self-* properties and P2P can be used concurrently. In Self-* and P2P for Network Management: Design Principles and Case Studies, the authors explore the issues behind the joint use of self-* properties and P2P, and present: a survey relating autonomic computing and self-* properties, P2P, and network and service management; the design of solutions that explore parallel and cooperative behavior of management peers; the change in angle of network management solution development from APIs, protocols, architectures, and frameworks to the design of management algorithms.

Book Integrated Network Management VIII

Download or read book Integrated Network Management VIII written by Germán Goldszmidt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 711 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to 1M 2003, the eighth in a series of the premier international technical conference in this field. As IT management has become mission critical to the economies of the developed world, our technical program has grown in relevance, strength and quality. Over the next few years, leading IT organizations will gradually move from identifying infrastructure problems to providing business services via automated, intelligent management systems. To be successful, these future management systems must provide global scalability, for instance, to support Grid computing and large numbers of pervasive devices. In Grid environments, organizations can pool desktops and servers, dynamically creating a virtual environment with huge processing power, and new management challenges. As the number, type, and criticality of devices connected to the Internet grows, new innovative solutions are required to address this unprecedented scale and management complexity. The growing penetration of technologies, such as WLANs, introduces new management challenges, particularly for performance and security. Management systems must also support the management of business processes and their supporting technology infrastructure as integrated entities. They will need to significantly reduce the amount of adventitious, bootless data thrown at consoles, delivering instead a cogent view of the system state, while leaving the handling of lower level events to self-managed, multifarious systems and devices. There is a new emphasis on "autonomic" computing, building systems that can perform routine tasks without administrator intervention and take prescient actions to rapidly recover from potential software or hardware failures.
