Book Self Boiled Lime Sulphur Mixture as a Promising Fungicide Classic Reprint

Download or read book Self Boiled Lime Sulphur Mixture as a Promising Fungicide Classic Reprint written by W. M. Scott and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-26 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Self-Boiled Lime-Sulphur Mixture as a Promising Fungicide Should the boiling be very prolonged the mixture might become caustic enough to burn foliage, although no such injury developed in the experiments. If it should be found in practice that the use of hot water dissolves too much sulphur, so that the foliage is injured, cold water may be substituted and a less intense heat thus developed, or the sulphur can be withheld until the lime has partly slaked, thus regulating the amount of sulphur dissolved. By this boiling process the sulphur is put in good mechanical con dition for spraying, and enough of it is dissolved to make the mix ture adhesive. As a large percentage of the sulphur is simply held in mechanical mixture with the lime water, it is necessary that the spraying outfit be provided with a. Good agitator, so that the mixture may be kept constantly stirred, and settling be thus avoided. In the treatment of apple trees, Paris green may be added for the con trol of the codling moth in the same manner as when Bordeaux mix ture is used. Book Agricultural and Industrial Applications Environmental Interactions

Download or read book Agricultural and Industrial Applications Environmental Interactions written by Dewayne Torgeson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fungicides, Volume I: Agricultural and Industrial Applications, Environmental Interactions discusses the application, use, and environmental interactions of fungicides. This book is organized into 15 chapters that cover the commercial development of fungicide and the organism's interaction with the environment. After discussing the history of fungicides, the book presents data on world fungicide usage and how this usage is influenced by epidemiology. It then describes procedures and approaches for commercial fungicide development; practical tests and laboratory techniques for agricultural fungicide toxicity; and significance of fungicide formulation that is determined by a variety of factors, including cost and biological efficiency. The following chapters discuss technological evolution, both in chemical fungicides and in the machinery for their application for soil and seed treatment. The application of foliar and postharvest fungicides and the use of other fungicides as industrial and wood preservatives is also tackled. The last four chapters are concerned with the various interactions between fungicides and the environment which may cause them to be more or less effective. The book will be useful to researchers, advanced students, and professional workers in the fungicide field of study who are concerned with the synthesis and development of better fungicides or their mode of action.

Book The Future Role of Pesticides in US Agriculture

Download or read book The Future Role of Pesticides in US Agriculture written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-11-02 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although chemical pesticides safeguard crops and improve farm productivity, they are increasingly feared for their potentially dangerous residues and their effects on ecosystems. The Future Role of Pesticides explores the role of chemical pesticides in the decade ahead and identifies the most promising opportunities for increasing the benefits and reducing the risks of pesticide use. The committee recommends R&D, program, and policy initiatives for federal agriculture authorities and other stakeholders in the public and private sectors. This book presents clear overviews of key factors in chemical pesticide use, including: Advances in genetic engineering not only of pest-resistant crops but also of pests themselves. Problems in pesticide useâ€"concerns about the health of agricultural workers, the ability of pests to develop resistance, issues of public perception, and more. Impending shifts in agricultureâ€"globalization of the economy, biological "invasions" of organisms, rising sensitivity toward cross-border environmental issues, and other trends. With a model and working examples, this book offers guidance on how to assess various pest control strategies available to today's agriculturist.

Book Chemistry of Pesticides

Download or read book Chemistry of Pesticides written by N. N. Melnikov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was originally published as a Russian edition in mid-1968. It represented the first single-volume discussion of chemical pest control and of the detailed chemistry.of all modern pesticide chemicals since D. E. H. Frear's classical book on this same subject, first published in 1942 (van No strand) with the latest (third) edition in 1955. Since 1955 many new pesti cide chemicals have achieved commercial status, and many of the older ones have been supplanted. There is no up-to-date equivalent of this present volume in the world literature, with the exception of the encyclopedic and largely biologically oriented two-volume work "Chemie der Pflanzenschutz und Schadlingsbekampfungsmittel" (R. Wegler, ed.) published by Springer Verlag in 1970. Professor Melnikov has updated the 1968 Russian edition, with emphasis on the primary Russian sources yet with excellent world wide coverage of the latest chemicals to approach field stature in modern chemical pest control, for the present translation."
